The lechwe the gentleman got at the 35 minute mark has phenomenal details on his horns. What a beautiful trophy !!! Congrats to the PH and the hunter !
That was amazing, the 30-06 really did the job on everything but the eland and buffalo, the eland kinda just shrugged it off, but the .416 shut him right down. Just an amazing hunt.

So just one question at 27:08 - If that was a perfect shot, and the bull was laying down where you could see it, why not just wait the half hour or so for it to expire? Why risk taking more shots and thereby inviting a charge?
Hi Pokemon, thanks for the question. We went up to make sure the bull expired quickly. If he is still alive we don't want him to suffer for 30 minutes while we wait. It's a controlled situation and a follow up like this will show us if the bull needs another shot or not. Thank you for watching, much appreciated.
African Sun Productions in my opinion , is good enough to do Nat Geo justice. Amazing footage in every production i've watched up to now. This specific video is exceptional. Music, sound and footage not to mention the hosts and the PH's . Just a perfect setting.Thank you. If i may ask. Where in SA is the venue? Ruger # 1 is a fine rifle, I have a couple of them. that CZ 550 416 he shot it well for a borrowed rifle, the only cringe I had was when he shot that buffalo with the first shot, he was more interested in the empty case than getting another round up the spout and back on that bull. It all worked out so my nip picking is kind of moot. I could not hunt like that, that lodge is way too upscale for me. a tent and a cot if fine for me, and I drink single malt scotch out of a tin cup. Other than that my Old Sako 75 in 338 Winchester would be very happy to take a walk there never less.
We can organize a hunt like that for you, no problem. I've actually been on a few backpack hunts where we carry everything with us and sleep in tents. Very cool indeed!
Morning and thanks for watching! All hunting areas in South Africa are fenced, so are many in Namibia and even Zimbabwe. It doesn't matter how big the areas are sometimes you do see a fence unfortunately. It was an awesome hunt though!
Hi Peter, thanks for the question. To be honest I cannot remember from the top of my head. What timecode are your referring to? I'll have a quick look and maybe have an answer. I'm driving at the moment so cannot scan through the full movie now.
@Havoc Art True, and it is all part of nature but it still is hard to see. If we can hunt those ones and help them out of their suffering AND we get to raise money to protect many others, it all works well together. Thank you for watching and for your comment.
At 1:14:30 I don't think it's a good idea to hunt African game with a 30.06 and you said it yourself. 30.06 is no magical bullet. 9,3x62 (African caliber designed in1905) would be a better choice if you want to avoid the recoil of .375 HH or .416 Rigby
I agree, the 30.06 isn't perfect for big game like Eland, perfect shot placement is needed. It did extremely well on all this hunt though. Thanks for watching!
The 30-06 did an excellent job on everything but the 1,600lb Eland, but to be fair, that 1st shot wasn't in the fatal triangle and I've heard stories of elands still running with four .375H&Hs in their vitals. That wildebeest at the end dropped where it stood. People have been harvesting plains game with the 30-06 for over a century.
@@AfricanSunProductions It sure did. To be fair, the first shot on the eland was probably the worst shot Steve took the entire hunt and on something as big and tough as an eland, like you said, your shot placement has to be perfect. The only two animals the 30-06 was too little gun for were the eland and the buffalo.
This old man doesn't know buffaloes! If you noticed, after the first shot, he quickly moved forward! 🤣 You don't do that when you are hunting any one of the big 5! After the first shot, you withdraw a little! I am sure he has never seen a buffalo charge!
It's different on every hunt. Most important is to keep a visual on the Buffalo, if this means moving forward, it's the right thing to do. Thanks for watching and for your comment, much appreciated.
