I play all his compositions in my piano shows/concerts and audiences LOVE them. They speak to a different age when musical celebrations of beauty were not considered unfashionable...!
Search for the LP/cassette of 'Golden Hour of Piano' from 1973. You will find these and more. My late grandparents bought this back then and I loved the music then and have played the tape again all these years later on a sunny winter's Sunday afternoon with the sun setting, just as the photograph on the tape shows. This post is the same recording. Simply sublimely beautiful and takes one's mind back to when I first heard it in my wonderful grandparents home all those years ago. Music doesn't get better than this.
You can almost see Liberace tickling the ivories whilst grinning inanely at the audience, while Clark Gable takes the podium and beats out common time. Whilst tuneful, this can't be taken as serious concert hall music in 1961. The same year Penderecki wrote Polymorphia !!!
Is that portamento at the start of the first piece an homage to "Rhapsody in Blue"? I like this type of XX century Americana music; but whatever happened to Classical music in general that it went from pieces like Kuhn's to "noise winning" , like I heard conductor Michael Tilson Thomas said once? Have we gone (purposely...?) raving mad?
No match for Gershwin? Why? Try Dana Suesse. Perhaps you will find her no match for Gershwin as well...Sheesh, pointless to make comparisons. Composition is not a game nor match.
@@andrewpetersen5272 What you say bears some truth. Composition is not a game or a match. But intelligent listening means that we must discriminate the great from the good, the good from the mediocre. I know Suesse, and she is clearly neither as eloquent nor as important as Gershwin. Nevertheless, thank you for responding. I think music lovers tend to be passionate, and you are clearly this way about Kuhn--and Suesse.
this melody, it's so beautiful it makes me feel like the ruler of Manhattan, no even more of the whole WORLD
Swept away in a nostalgic wave of beautiful melody. How can anyone not love this ?
Indeed. 2 dislikes is 2 too many! There are so many gems on YT, and how lovely to find this!

Jon Gooch where can I find the piano sheet music? No luck Sfc o far.
Where can one find the piano sheet music?
@@hjusn I'm afraid I do not read sheet music but play these from sight/ear only. Good luck in your search
Just sitting and looking at the rain. Great Day
Amazing

Stumbled on this beautiful composition by Joseph Kuhn while I was actually looking for the Manhattan Tower score. Such talent.

En anglais light music.
It seemed like it got deeper and richer the longer I listened to it. Also Gershwin kept coming to mind.
J.K. wrote numerous works---all of them having that romantic aire and urban setting he so aptly conveys.Aisle T
alk is one of my favorites.
Merci.
very beautiful and rare!
Gorgeous music!! I dreamt I walked in the streets of New York in the '50s!!!
50´s no .... 30´s
Beautiful. It's the first time I am able to listen to a Joseph. F.Kunz composition. Quite beautiful. I learn a lot tks to your cannel.
Unbelievably, Kuhn's music has NEVER been used in a movie.
This is too good for a movie, at least none I've seen.
38 is no age to die for such a talent
Totally agree! Have just posted my comment with my memories of first hearing these incredible pieces.
Think of Mozart or Schubert. Another 30 years of life, and Joseph could have been world famous.
i sit on the couch and cry. Very emotional!
eisbrenner what a wonderful gift you have.

clasicos de toda la vida
These tracks also appeared on numerous 101 Strings albums, which he also scored up until his death.
It sounds like a really good Disney movie score, but reminds me of Gershwin as well. Another gem just almost lost to history.
yeah disney stole it
Where did you find all this music? It's unbelievable...
Ah ah !

Somewhere in between Gershwin, Addinsel, and Jackie Gleason.

Where do you get this music from?
you´ve more from this composer?
I came from Mouse in Manhattan in Tom and Jerry
Musique de film ????
Beautiful but sounds a lot like Gershwin.
Interesting. Kuhn is no match for Gershwin, but he was clearly influenced by him. And note that he died at the same age as Gershwin, 38!
