One of the first songs to use distortion on guitar.
Fun fact, they slashed their speakers with a razorblade to produce this sound, causing the Fuzz pedal to be introduced to the public to stop musicians from destroying their gear, which was used by the Rolling Stones in Satisfaction.

Hey! Just to clear some things up considering there is some minor discourse in the replies. I love the kinks! Definitely one of my favourite bands, The only thing I’m calling silly is the fact that my introduction to the kinks was through the minions film and how me liking 60s music now could be foreshadowed through me watching this as a kid. Hope this clears everything up for you guys!

You all are way ahead of me. In my 40s and bought into the popular music my friends liked, as a teen. Not that it was all bad. It wasn't until I was in my 20s that I realized my parents, grandparents, knew what the hell they were talking about with music. Now I go as far back as the 1920s. I think as you get older, you explore now. So if you're already hitting the decades you mention, I can only imagine the size of your catalogue by the time you're in your 40s.

I think it's a shame that the pre--1965 era of music has kind of been thrown away. I once had a conversation with another guitarist who referred to Hendrix, Page and Clapton as the "founding fathers of rock guitar". I asked him if the name "Chuck Berry" rang any bells...

The first time I heard this song it gave me chills up and down my spine. It set the bar for every song I listened to after that. My gold standard, you might say.

It was a cheap Vox amp (12 watt) that Dave called "the Fartbox" because it got pretty dirty if you just turned it up. And yeah - he slashed and taped the cone, and tuck needles in it, too.

That's Rock 'N' Roll baby!!!!! I was 15 years-young in 1964 and I'll never forget the first time I heard this song on the radio!!! Made me a Kinks fan for life and my friend and I in high school took them over the Beatles in a heart beat!!! This song has been covered by more than 75 bands since 1964 Kinks version! The guitar riff was the best I had heard from ANY British band during the 'British Invasion'! After this it was "All Day And All of The Night', and I was hooked!!!! The Kinks were 'Thee Bad Ass Band' from across the pond!!
