Igaza van...- kevesen érzik át a magyar lélek hol tragikus, hol tombolóan vidám, vagy éppen abszurd mivoltát. Érdekes, hogy a kínaiak tudják, érzik ezt. Például Vang Jü-csia / Yuja Wang szintén.

I find it extremely snobbish that some of you disrespect those who are here because of Tom & Jerry or Bugs Bunny.
The creators of those shows knew exactly what they were doing. Exposing children to great classical music. The fact that they come here today as adults to listen again is a testament of their appreciation of the classics and hopefully will be exposed to more.

Some people just need to find a way to feel better somehow, forgetting that for most people, popular media of some kind is how they get into classical music of any kind. I think Benjamin Zander made the point that a lot of the musicians themselves always perform with the idea that just 1% of all music listeners will listen to classical, and they have this sort of snobbish antipathy and resignation instead of trying to be cheerful that a, they have an audience, and b, that they have the opportunity to grow it. My words, not his. He's a lot nicer and funnier about it.

As a pianist I can tell you she’s not feeling a “high” while she plays. Playing music takes a toll emotionally and it is extremely difficult. Nothing about it is fun for the musician, we do not space out during performances. It’s extremely focused work that is about as tedious and nerve wracking as performing surgery. If your just playing the same 4 chords over and over again in isorhythmic fashion (pop, rock, blues, jazz) it’s a different story. Then you can space out and get “high”. Not when you play Liszt or anything complex

@@randykern1842 as a piano student i can tell you i do get a huge adrenaline rush whenever i play live, and that might well be the high OP is referring to. admittedly i can't play pieces like this yet, but the stuff i do play is pretty complex to me, therefore i get all the boiling blood and stuff because of nerves. and i'm pretty sure most people goe through similar experiences whenever performing.

Her phrasing has such delicacy and perfection it almost defies description. I wanted to heap praise on her expressive interpretation and her flawless execution of rubato, something many Liszt performers treat as an afterthought. Not here! She holds these notes with the care and wonder in which we would hold the face of a new born baby in our hands. Its a true revelation hearing this. I would suggest that laughing one's ass off should be wrong even for an American considering it's donkey. An arse on the other hand is one's posterior.
Once an ass, always an ass you might say. An ass can also be a person acting somewhat stupid, through association with the way donkeys behave compared to horses.

Thanks. Music, like humor or literature is so completely subjective to any individual taste that it's difficult to agree upon. If I unwittingly disparaged yours or anyone else's likes or dislikes, I apologize. By the way, I am American, but arse is more elegant, I think.

I like how she seems to be dancing with the music in some parts. I don't know all versions of this masterpiece. So I cannot say which one is the best, and I don't want to, because I think it is a silly thing to do. There are so many different ways to play a piece. To describe one of them as the best in most cases means that you want to sell your own opinion as the best and not the music. But what I can say is that I like this version.
And I like that the camera is fixed and you can see what she does instead of being destracted by a director's showing off his incredible abilities of zooming.

Fantastically well played! Bravo! This might be my favourite interpretation - along with one of Cziffra's early recordings. A lot of genious pianists have wonderful live versions on UA-cam (Hamelin included), but this one by Maestra Poon is second to none. Inspired, fun, impeccable, fiery. I especially loved how much weight she adds to the 3+2+3 rhythm around 7:00 and again at 8:00 - a lot of performers rush over it, but no her. And Liszt definitely wanted it that way, otherwise he wouldn't have harmonized just the 1st, 4th and 6th notes on those downward scales. Fantastic. Thank you for the upload. And thank you to Tiffany Poon!

When I was a kid, I did a report on him for history class (you know that annoying history report we always had to do for our final exam that had to be, like, thoroughly researched with at least four sources? That one. I did that one on Franz Liszt.). In my research, I came across a five volume documentary of Franz Liszt, about 500 pages per book. I read the whole thing. Liszt had some wild stories.

Theorem: Every performance on UA-cam of a given work by a given mature performer is adjudged by at least one viewer to be the best performance of that work.
This performance would obviously be hard to beat but what I particularly like about the video is that it doesn’t switch mindlessly between different views of the pianist and/or the piano. Rather, it reflects what we would hope to see as a member of the live audience, I.e., focused steadily on the pianist, her hands, and the keyboard. I don’t need or even want to see head-on views of the pianist with every facial nuance they might care to express during the performance.
