Yes. I had the same problem. At the store, they told me about the little J tabs at the back for pushing it or driving it, but it was completely omitted in the John Deere video. Their description was if you want the wheels locked for transport, put it in one position and to push and drive it, have it in the other. That was wrong. How could JD possibly omit this little face? Thank you for the video man it was very helpful. I had my 21.5 hp 42 inch delivered this morning early and I’ve never driven one of these before. I noticed that there is some weathering on mine like one of the stainless steel areas back by the engine is a little rusted and the seat looks a little weathered and I’m wondering if that should not be the case for a brand new machine being delivered that was supposed to come from a crate
I’m glad it was helpful! It sounds like if it was in a crate it was definitely sitting outside in the weather. I just work on these machines and I never see when they are put together or shipped anything like that. Depending on where you purchase the machine and how they run their operation is how it is. My opinion if it looks weathered, it shouldn’t be when it’s a brand new machine and either would want a discount on the price or a machine that looks new as it should be.

Would you recommend adjust the smaller wheels? The ones that are on the mower itself to the length in which you are cutting? Also, where do I hook up a garden hose to clean the blades.
Hi Chris, I do not agree with the method of moving your gauge wheels. I would just have them set as anti scalp just lower than the mower deck to help so the deck does not dig into the ground when you hit uneven ground. I would suggest talking to John Deere about the adjustable gauge wheels. Not sure what you mean about connecting the garden hose. The machine should come with the adapter when you purchased the machine and the connection is on the mower deck. I guess if you did not purchase it from a John Deere dealer you may not have received the adapter? In my opinion, I do not recommend using any water to clean your machine as water will ruin your mower deck bearings. I am not affiliated with John Deere. Just keeping things as honest as I can to help you, the consumer keep your Deere running a long time.
Great video! I just purchased a Z345M…. Can you do a video on how to best level the cutting deck? I have not adjusted it since I bought it assuming it it is level from the factory. After cutting the grass I am not sure it is level.
Hi Nick, First check all your tire pressure and make sure the front are even and the rear are even. I do not have a Z335 in the shop but watch this video and it should help. It is a basic video on how to level a mower deck. ua-cam.com/video/-z3nqPI-4Wg/v-deo.html
Oh no! I just purchased a used z335e and was in the process of cleaning it up when I got the bright idea to disconnect and drop the deck. I then disengaged the parking break, lifted the front end and pushed the mower back about 4 feet to clear the deck. I had no idea about disengaging the pins in the back! What damage might I have caused?? It was difficult to push but I managed to back it up 4 feet.
I’m glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words. Please subscribe and tell your friends to help my channel grow:) In the future if you have questions please email me and I’ll try and help you with a video if I can.
We are finding that after you start the mower and you want to start moving, whenever we put the orange emergency break down, the mower shuts off. Whats wrong? You tutorial shows that in order to move, that break has to be in the down position. (the handles are all the way back)
It sounds like either the safety switch on the seat isn’t sensing enough weight? How heavy is the person riding the machine. OR you may be leaning forward when you flip the emergency brake down. Make sure you’re firmly sitting on the seat before putting the E brake off. And again make sure your handles are all the way open. It just sounds like a safety switch is not being pushed in properly or the seat switch is not sensing enough weight.
Great video! I'm thinking of getting one of these before next spring. I have so many trees and stuff to more around in my yard, and I've been trying to decide if zero turn is worth the extra cost. I'm leaning towards "absolutely".
I can say, they are getting very popular and seem to be holding up ok as long as your performing the normal maintenance and not beating the crap out of them. They are good home owner machines but not built for the landscaper’s.
I see your comment was 11 months ago, but anyway I had a 46 inch Craftsman tractor style. Ended up buying AZ335E, I would never say or thought I would say that I love a lawn mower. But I love this John Deere!! If you got one, I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am 👍
This is the mower we have at work. Great tios for getting the deck bearings and cleaning around the pulleys! How do you tighten the parking brake? Ours rolls backwards on the trailer after loading it.
Hi friend,I have owned this lawn mower for two years. Now I am starting to mow the lawn in the spring, but what should I do if the machine does not start?
I would suggest going to your local John Deere dealer or The Home Depot to see if you can measure one. I work on these machines but do not own them and they go back to there owners.
I'll go measure mine for ya...I just bought the 42" Z345M which I believe is identical to this one...I'll brb! Actually if anything mine may be wider but I think not.
So the widest part across which is the deck is 46.5" BUT if the discharge is down it's around 50.5" so you'll have to bungy the chute up when driving it in! If your like me I've ordered the mulching kit so I'm going to remove the discharge chute completely as I never throw the grass and I'll have the mulching being used 100 percent of the time.
It is true that they are sealed like every bearing. It is important to grease the hubs to keep moisture from penetrating the bearings from the inside and it also keeps water from entering the hub.

No need to take it out for the winter unless your in a very, very cold climate. You can either slow charge the the battery once or twice during the winter if you have a battery charger and electric where you store your machine. If you do not. Just run the machine if you get a day above 40 degrees and run the throttle 3/4 to full for 15 minutes, about twice a winter to keep the battery charged up. If you need to take the battery out. Unbolt the cables and pull the battery up and out.
My mower is just like that I use it with my landscaping business to cut others peoples lawns. It's well taken care of and runs great. I always sharpen the blades on it and check the oil.
@@inocenciosalazar9796 I end up pulling the deck. There used to be a video on UA-cam, but the guy made it private. The steps aren’t hard, but it’s a real work out. A cordless impact wrench and something to block the blades from spinning is recommended. I have also seen people put it on a mojack or jack stands, but I’m leery of crawling under it.
I’m glad it was helpful and thank you for the kind comment! Please give this video I like, and share my channel with your friends to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated :)
Great video and I appreciate you putting it together!! I just recently purchased A335E with just under a 100 hours on it. It's like brand new. My only question is when you engage the PTO, is half throttle okay? I've been hearing different opinions by some, saying full power before you engage the pto. That seems a little extreme, and I noticed you are about half throttle.. Thank you for all the great information and help. Going from a 46 inch Craftsman tractor style to this is night and day, I literally love this lawnmower LOL..
I personally start all PTO at half speed unless more rpm’s are needed to keep mower deck running then after mower deck is running throttle to full speed. It is so much torque all at once on the belt, so I agree with you. 1/2 to 3/4 start the PTO then throttle up. Thank you for watching and commenting. My mower cranks, but won’t start. I had a new fuel filter put in and I mowed a few times afterwards. Was away for a couple of months and now it just won’t start. Any ideas?
Fill the gas tank to full, keep the choke on 100% until it starts. Be careful not to crank for more tan 20 seconds at a time to make sure you do not cook your starter. Thank
I'm glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching and the kind comment. Please give this video a like, subscribe if you haven't already and share my channel to help it grow. It would be greatly appreciated!
Been trying to turn my dads on and it won’t start doesn’t even crank already charged the battery and it still won’t turn on any idea on what else it could be. Also already filled up the gas tank and still nothing
Make sure the battery is good? Make sure the PTO is off that is the mower deck switch that turns it on. Make sure that is off. Make sure the handles are all the way out to each side. And if it has a emergency brake , some did some did not, make sure it is on. If all of that doesn’t get it to turn over meaning spinning the engine when you turn it to crank. Then check the fuse. There should be one or two fuses.
I do not unless we purchase Tru-Fuel. Unfortunately the area I live in has ethanol in the fuel. I just use the highest octane at the pump. It is better fuel than the lower octane. If you can get ethanol free at the pump then definitely use it.

Just remember to perform the preventative maintenance. Change oil regularly, clean air filter and if the air filter did not come with a pre-filter? Make sure you get one. Keep the blades sharp and tires adjusted to proper air pressure. DO NOT wash your machine unless absolutely necessary due to you will ruin bearings quickly if you do. Do not use the machine to tow anything heavy. Grease all possible grease fittings. If you store your machine in the winter months put a automatic trickle charger on the battery when storing machine for more than a month. Keep and eye on fuel filter and spark plugs for a every year or other year depending on how many hrs you will be running it. Read your operators manual for service tips!

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines thank you. Checking that now. Battery was also not giving the appropriate amount of voltage. I’m charging it up now. Thank you again
You can cut in reverse because there are no safety switches for that model about cutting in reverse. Many machines have a button you must press to be able to cut in reverse. Pain in the butt.

Hi David, As long as it was a slow and short push. You should be fine.
Hope so. Seems to drive fine. What should I be looking for if something is wrong? ( This is my first zero turn)
@@davidbaker2697 The machine will loose ground speed and slow down a lot. Especially going up any inclines.
Ok good to know! Thank you so much for the info!
Thanks brother great instructions we are new owners and this video was very informative and helped us a ton.

Thanks!! my mower wouldn’t move until I took off the safety feature!
Where is this manufactured?
This video may help. ua-cam.com/video/JbwjMUNF6kg/v-deo.html
@@JohnsonsSmallEnginesThank you
What’s the full width of the mower? Garden shed door is 4ft wide.
@@RogerDiotte Fair play to you. Thanks for the info👍👍
When adjusting the seat can you move the seat forward? I am short and would feel better if the seat was forward more
Yes, you can adjust the seat forward and backward.
Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated!

I was told that the bearings in the spindles were sealed and would not take grease when you grease the spindles. Do you know if that is true?
It is true that they are sealed like every bearing. It is important to grease the hubs to keep moisture from penetrating the bearings from the inside and it also keeps water from entering the hub.
Thank you. What is the best grease to use
I use John Deere 14oz tube grease part # TY24416 for my grease gun. It is Heavy Duty lithium grease.
Can you change the hydro fluid in the transmission
Hi Louis, technically they re non serviceable but if you research it, I'm sure you will find someone who has figured it out.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines ah ok thanks for responding back i wasnt sure
When it’s time to mow should I have it all the way in rabbit mode or run it half way?
Rabbit, the engine and transmission performs the best at that speed.
This was so incredibly helpful

How can I get the battery out For the winter
Keep up the preventative maintenance and you should be ok.
@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thank you so much. I will defiantly remember what yo said.
How do you sharpen the blades
@@inocenciosalazar9796 I end up pulling the deck. There used to be a video on UA-cam, but the guy made it private. The steps aren’t hard, but it’s a real work out. A cordless impact wrench and something to block the blades from spinning is recommended.
I have also seen people put it on a mojack or jack stands, but I’m leery of crawling under it.
This is just what I needed. Thank you!

Thank
What's is the tube with the yellow top next to the oil dipstick for?
Oil drain

What kind of gass do you use is it the same as my car 87
Yes
What oil does it take?
Depends on where you live but your most likely ok using 10W30 which has a large temperature range.
Where is the battery located?
You must not have not watched the entire video.
It’s under the cover, under the seat.
Do you run ethanol free gas in your small engines?
I do not unless we purchase Tru-Fuel. Unfortunately the area I live in has ethanol in the fuel. I just use the highest octane at the pump. It is better fuel than the lower octane. If you can get ethanol free at the pump then definitely use it.
Thank you I just got one and you help a lot

Just got one of these, can you think of anything I need to know? it’s my first riding mower and i wanna take care of her from day one!

Has anyone had issue with it starting? Work has been done on it recently. The starter fluid spray works to start it at times but fails more than often. Any help would be appreciated!
It sounds like the auto choke system is not working correctly.

At 6:10 are you saying you CAN cut in reverse or CAN'T? Don't understand what you mean about the safety switches being terrible.
You can cut in reverse because there are no safety switches for that model about cutting in reverse. Many machines have a button you must press to be able to cut in reverse. Pain in the butt.
Best tutorial - Thanks

As someone who mows with this mower , the gas light is very useless. You can't see it and the light in it is very dim. I think it would be better if it was placed more in your Feild of view.
