Gifted like no others. Good things in life come in small packages - Dudley was the most appropriate example of the old adage. Enjoyed watching DUD & PETE show. R.I.P. Dudley
Genius, virtuosity and comedy all wrapped up in one small body. I get slightly frustrated when Dudley Moore's described as an actor and comedian who could play the piano. First and foremost he was, and always will be (to me), a virtuoso musician and composer, who also happened to be funny.
So true, he attended university to study music. I've always adores his playing and compositions since I was a 9 yrs old girl. My biggest regret is not seeing his perform live. AEx
Absolutely true ...today tv stations seem to treat people who are semi educated, ordinary, lacking in talent, as if they are suitable role models to be put in front of the cameras for our "entertainment"....we are indeed living in the age of mediocrity This statement becomes so apparent when you see the likes of Dudley Moore....and how tv used to be ☹☹☹☹☹
A brilliantly gifted and wonderful pianist was "our Dud!" I love his jazz playing, because he 'phrases' and 'voices' it the way he feels it. His classical reprtoire for piano is superb. Dudley was a musical genius.
I loved Dudley Moore. Back in the day, this teenager fell for his sense of humour, his brilliance and him actually. He with Peter Cooke were the very first satirical and new comedians.
I never saw this on tv when it was broadcast, so pleased to have discovered now. Dudley Moore was an absolute genius player, tremendous performance, thank you for sharing
This was probably the final time on British television he played his Beethoven piano spoof. One of his best performance of this routine was on Wogan in 1988
The first time ’look I can,t get out’ piece by Dudley was as part of the legendary show “Beyond The Fringe” whose cast included Peter Cook, Alan Bennet, Jonathan Miller. So much amazing talent.
I adore him!!!. He is so brilliant that I named my Dalmatian puppy after him.I also have learned the piano...Nothing like his talent of course...But his brilliance with the 'keys' is just THAT!! 7.2020. His serious piano renditions are superb. He will always remain very special.xx.
Вы молодец !!😃👍 я восхищаюсь тем , что Дадли привил многим людям любовь к музыке )))) я бы тоже хотела научиться играть на фортепьяно , но у меня его нет , но есть гитара и я учусь играть на ней 😁
Whilst to be without his gift for comedy would have been tragic, one cannot help but wonder what hights he may have reached had he dedicated himself to music. Rare indeed to find an individual so prodigious in one field, let alone two.
There was only one real talented professional entertainer in this video and it certainly ain't Noel. Still miss ole' Dudley and it was so heartbreakingly sad when he died the way he did suffering. We have certainly lost a lot of real genius talent over the recent years.
He has done a few versions of this..but always with Ludwig’s inability to finish when it should have! Beethoven loved to show off. Dudley showed off his talent!
FWIW: The tune is the "Colonel Bogey March", composed in 1914 by Lieutenant F. J. Ricketts (1881-1945) (pen name Kenneth J. Alford), a British Army bandmaster who later became the director of music for the Royal Marines at Plymouth. (Wikipedia). 'Bogey' refers to the golf handicap of a poor player. Dudley's title "And the same to you' derives from the British soldiers' words added to this march that went: 'Bollocks!' 'Aaaand the same to you!' This is also the tune of the famous war-time ditty which began: 'Hitler has only got one ball...'
Is it only me slightly uncomfortable with the sight of a beer glass on a Boesendorfer?? Oh, and my favourite jazz performer tends to take my mind off it!
I'm afraid that most of the audience , at this particular show, would have little appreciation of just how good he was or understand the Beethoven behind the playing.
Difficult to watch because if you read Rena Fruchter's book, you will know at this stage in the 90's he was starting to have problems. I'd pitch this around 94,95?
Gifted like no others. Good things in life come in small packages - Dudley was the most appropriate example of the old adage. Enjoyed watching DUD & PETE show.
R.I.P. Dudley
The man was a genius on the piano, so skilled and maintained the ability to make people laugh
Just pure brilliance, the modulations, the dynamics, the coda, you'd have been forgiven for thinking Beethoven wrote this himself.
Genius, virtuosity and comedy all wrapped up in one small body.

Yes

Agreed. He had recorded the Grieg Piano Concerto towards the end of his life. Also he was a virtuoso organist too! What a lovely man he was.
Why do you say he was a genius?
have a day off@@leif1075
Incredibly amazing performance. Moore was so very gifted, genius really, what he was able to do here. RIP Dudley.
A time when you had to have talent to be on tv. Not like the crap they bombard us with today.👍
The woke liberals are responsible for the crap our kids get today on the telly and big screen.
I assume you're talking about Dud and not Mr Blobby.

Dudley was a musical genius.
a great talent taken away from this world by an ugly disease it was horrible how he suffered in his last yrs such a funny man and great piano player
Dudley was a BRILLIANT pianist
I'll always make time to listen to Dudley Moore playing the piano
A wonderful man funny and
Bright love his music.🌹
I loved Dudley Moore. Back in the day, this teenager fell for his sense of humour, his brilliance and him actually.

A very talented and funny soul. He was born the same year as my dad -1935. Sadly missed.
This was probably the final time on British television he played his Beethoven piano spoof. One of his best performance of this routine was on Wogan in 1988
Absolute Genius Dudley Moore, wasted on Noel's House Part audience.
Absolutely brilliant parody of Beethoven.
He is truly a great pianist.
Parody? Parody, Sir? By G-d, a positive channelling of positive genius, by a positive genius!
This is so funny and he is so talented.....OMG I can watch this over and over again......very entertaining and such an amazing artist!
Aaaahh Dud. Absolutely priceless, talented man. Gone far too soon in a dreadful illness ❤️❤️
Fantastic. God bless you Dudley.❤️
The first time ’look I can,t get out’ piece by Dudley was as part of the legendary show “Beyond The Fringe” whose cast included Peter Cook, Alan Bennet, Jonathan Miller. So much amazing talent.
RIP Dud. You absolute genius.
Such wondrous talent and of course who can forget Pete and Dud ! So cruelly taken at such a young age ❤
This was early 1992. I remember watching it at the time, as a student.
Probably the cleverest exercise in Classical music 0f modern times and hilariously played.
Dudley Moore and Victor Borge, magic men. Missed.
The pint of beer on the side was genius - as was this performance! What an underrated talent!
Gifted...just simply a great exponent of piano...Good Actor. Arthur...10...Good Comedian....Peter Cook Iconic duo....
Wow?! Brilliant! 👍🏼

Dudley Moore - GENIUS. End of.
Bill Bailey
Extraordinary talent
Whilst to be without his gift for comedy would have been tragic, one cannot help but wonder what hights he may have reached had he dedicated himself to music. Rare indeed to find an individual so prodigious in one field, let alone two.
Just as Peter Cook was & comedy genius, Dudley was a musical comedy genius, this is simply wonderful.
Beautiful pianist
This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Incredibly nuanced humor without words.
That was brilliant.
Multi talented ❤
Astonishing, sublime !
love it, a virtuoso having a go as they say. love how he looks behind him like someone is chasing him.
One of the greatest entertainers EVER. Gone but NEVER forgotten.
Great technique. And great piano. Wow.
dudley moore RIP X thanx for making me laugh a lot and you sure got talent sir.
Marvelous !
Never knew he was that good at it !!!
There was only one real talented professional entertainer in this video and it certainly ain't Noel.
Still miss ole' Dudley and it was so heartbreakingly sad when he died the way he did suffering.
We have certainly lost a lot of real genius talent over the recent years.
Brilliant pianist.
Anyone who ever wondered what a genius looks like? Look no further.
There are great musicians and there are greater musicians. Dudley is in the latter category.
He caught Beethoven's style impeccably, even to the point that Beethoven never seemed to know how to end a piece of composition.
genius to be able to parody Beethoven that closely
Piano is Bosendorfer's model 275, which has been out of production for almost 20 years.
Wonderful :) This Beethoven parody was even better on his Saturday Late Night Show. Please enjoy that as well :)
He has done a few versions of this..but always with Ludwig’s inability to finish when it should have! Beethoven loved to show off. Dudley showed off his talent!
so wonderfully Dud!

Bravo Dudley, bravo...
Exquisite!!!!
Pure Genius
From 1992:I new before he would play again his great Beethoven-Parody here. See "Dudley Moore Beethoven Sonata Parody" about 30 years earlier 1962/63
Moore a genius, Edmunds, a muppet
Thank Noel for putting thia genius on primetime, these days woulld not happen or be appreciated
Is really astonishing how USA actors are able to make everything...they act, dance, play instruments...is pure PRO life!
He’s English and studied at Oxford.
Dudley was perhaps better known for his jazz, but was equally competent playing classical sadly missed.
Moore was GREAT as Arthur Bach
EFFORTLESS...…. !!! (so good he was)
Dudley Moore, pure genius as a pianist, and comedic actor,Victor Borge is the only another pianist I would consider in playing and comedy.
Кто-нибудь знает , Дадли Мур и Виктор Борге когда-нибудь выступали вместе ??? Есть ли хоть одно совместное выступление этих двух гениальных людей??
Wow!
Ah! Dudley, much missed, went too soon.
@Fredrickson80s I think it is from the early 90's too and not late because I think that Dudley was already ill in 1998.
'Variations on an Original Theme ('Col. Bogey') by Ludwig van Moore.
Dudley saudades
Is it only me slightly uncomfortable with the sight of a beer glass on a Boesendorfer?? Oh, and my favourite jazz performer tends to take my mind off it!
Yes…it’s only you…🤣🤣🤣
I have the sheet music transcription of this work....
.... no, I can't play it, well not any more than the first couple of pages.
effyleven ha ha same here. I get up to the fugal bit and then have to stop! 😂
Genius
What year was this?
I tell yer, the other day this bloke came up to me and he said " You
Oh now what is the next word of that sketch? 🤔
He’s playing Colonel
Bogey March as Beethoven would!
I'm afraid that most of the audience , at this particular show, would have little appreciation of just how good he was or understand the Beethoven behind the playing.
Improvisation is an important part of an organ degree, which he had.
Lovely...Noel looking lost...he never learned to play ANYTHING at all...just out records on!!!!! Dudley ruled
I hate mashups... but this is the best mashup ever :)
+Rebecca Walker Not a mash-up, it's variations on a theme, "Colonel Bogey's March".
4:14 BRILLIANT!!!
Where Clive?
Like Liberace only more Dudley Moore... ❤️ No idea he was so accomplished! (In piano)
;could you er,, clear off? ha ha. performers should use this line to hecklers in their concerts
He was so funny
Did we miss the theme?? Something about balls................
Difficult to watch because if you read Rena Fruchter's book, you will know at this stage in the 90's he was starting to have problems. I'd pitch this around 94,95?
Himmler, has something similar... : the ditty that helped win WW2 ;)!
Hilarious! hahahaha
AND ..THATS ALL IT TOOK 😮
DM looks more like Ludovic Kennedy in this clip!
wow
Remember when he WAS a piano?
I loved NHP.Great before going out.Well before it's time and copied by Micheal Mackintyre.
Dudley speaks for himself
@jjclark611 i think it was 1998.
Telling Mr Edmonds to clear off, was what the entire nation wanted to say.
Dud dismisses the talentless no-mark Edmunds with the swift "You're in my eyeline". Then gets to the work of a genius.
Chico Marx
The two ends of the scale. - the funny talented Dudley and the unfunny talentless Edmonds
