I really like these console-focused episodes
No you don’t
@@crackinlackin9105 yes he does

@@crackinlackin9105 I'm pretty sure everybody likes Game Sack
@@bradnimbus4836 Are you sure? Meow
A friend of mine traded in his SNES and Genesis including about three dozen games so he could buy himself a 3DO. He still regrets it to this day. 😂
OUCH!
Bruh
What an idiot 😂 jk
@@karimcheese7257 Ouch is right😱
Me too, only just the snes and 15 games
Good memories! I started commercial game development in '94 on the 3DO. Great system, technical miles ahead of its original 16-bit competition, yet so underutilized and plagued with awful FMV titles.
I just had to say kudos for the max headroom pic.
What did you work on?
Why no doom tho
Yeah full of shit what u work on? What were the dev systems like?
I found a FZ-1 model in a thrift store a few days ago for $15. It was missing a controller but was in amazing shape, on a hunch I went back the next day and found the controller for $3.
Really nice port of Out of This World
Where are these magical thrift stores? Not in Miami that's for sure.
That’s a steal. Grats!
Found one in a thrift store in Phoenix AZ once for 7 dollars. Came with a controller but had to find a power cable. Glad to see I'm not the only lucky one.
Nice score. In the late 1990s, I traded my old Panasonic portable CD player for an FZ-1 plus a controller. I still have it and it still works. I guess I wound up with the better end of that deal in the long run.
I had the Panasonic 3DO (front loader) back then.
Man THAT was a HEAVY but beautiful machine!
The 3DO road rash actually has some easter eggs hidden in it. If you slowly creep up and bump a pedestrian without knocking them over there are usually some funy little animations that they do, such as dropping their pants with their eyes bugging out. The cows stnd up on their hind legs and do a little dance when tapped but not knocked over as well, it's pretty funny.
That's funny. I will have to try that.
Thank you guys for what you do. I'm having a really hard time today and this video really helped me forget some stuff for a little bit.
Glad we could help. I hope all is ok.
Space Hulk is really tough. Especially if you don't know how to properly use the squad elements of the game.
More than just switching between characters, You can control the actions of each team member. Set their destination and what they should do when they get there (like keep watch, offer cover fire, ETC.)
it's a pretty amazing game.
He just played it rediculously wrong...
That may be the case! LOL
gamers today cant handle a game with a steep learning curve.
Makes me happy that damn near every time you mention how good the music is in a game it's stuff that I would actually listen to on my own jam to in a big ass playlist
Haha nice to see you here alpha
Hey alpha
Oh yeah. Next episode has one game with a great metal soundtrack. I'll give you a hint. This soundtrack is "guilty" of being totally awesome. Bad hint but you might get it.
yeh wonder if they had..... good stage one music >.>
***** You sir, are a "Badguy" for making puns like that.
Love these longer episodes. Also like the longer conversations between you two, the stories are interesting.
I just want to say that I really like these videos since they aren't overly negative, and actually bring to light some of the good aspects of failed consoles and the like. Keep it up!
Road Rash is definitely a must own for everyone! I wish they would re-release the classic on live or psn and add co-op etc.
My friend also got the 3DO at launch for $700 bucks. I remember Crash and Burn looking a lot better than it does. In face, I feel the same way about a lot of these games...
Road Rash is the real star of the show - such a great licensed soundtrack..STILL one of, if not THE best!
My Life in Gaming how did anyone pay 700 for a console then lol
The Road Rash sound track is still tops. Great game too
My dad got duped he went to get us a playstation and the salesman convinced him to get a 3do I mean had alot of fun but had to scrape money together as an elementary school kid to own a playstation
I got one at launch as well. Then I had to take it back, then I had to take that one back. By the fourth one the cd drive actually worked and I was able to play Sewer Shark. After about thirty minutes I took it back and never played one again. Garbage system.
Base an entire system off of a port of a Sega CD game eh? Incredible...
Thank you for reviewing 3DO.
As a kid, I had one (FZ-10 model) and I thoroughly enjoyed the system.
Battlesport, Road Rash (amazing soundtrack) were my favorites.
Horde was a weirdly addicting game, with pretty good cutscenes.
Captain Quazar, Samurai Shodown, FIFA, The Incredible Machine, and others were all enjoyed by a younger version of myself.
I was also quite fascinated by the boxes the games were packaged in. Just like Genesis games, I think packaging for most 3DO games was top notch.
All in all, it was a fun system at a time (still have it, actually) and GEX could've been a hell of a mascot, had the system performed better.
Finally! A video game review channel that doesn't rely on profanity and over the top voice over. And plus, you guys cover the topics really well and I enjoy watching every episode.
Many thanks and PLEASE keep this up and I'll support you all the way.
Thank You! We plan to keep it up as long as possible of course. Without blue pills.
Still like the AVGN though.
Game Sack Dave what does “without blue pills” mean?
This show is so good. I used to watch repeats of This Old House on Sunday mornings, now it's Game Sack repeats. Please keep making these for the rest of your lives!
I remember when I had my Goldstar 3DO, Space Hulk always crashed on it. So that was one of the incompatible titles. Not sure what else didn't work well on it.
There are no incompatible titles. The Goldstar 3DO was cheaply made, so parts sometimes break down so that it doesn't play certain games properly. This led to the misconception that it doesn't play those games period, but in fact a fully functional Goldstar 3DO will play any 3DO game. All 3DO games had to be tested on all 3DO models before they could be released.
It's a shame because I really love Space Hulk and it's one of my favorites on the 3DO.
I really enjoy your channel. The subtle humor is nice and the lack of screaming is always a plus.
Believe it or not the need for speed game was not "slow" but real-world accurate in simulation. The newer games were sped up and made more like an arcade instead of a simulation of real cars driving on real roads. Plus the frame rate was low, true, which may have made it appear slower.
_"Welcome... to the 200 club!"_
I always thought the original sucked.
So true I was saying the same thing it was accurate simulation that nexz gen need, for speed was corny
i love this show so much , especially the cheesy humor and back n forth between you guys . please never stop making these
Star Control II is freeware for PC. It's a port of the 3DO version if I'm not mistaken, and called The Urquan Masters. Easy to look up.
+Arbor Day It's only relatively recently became freeware and The Ur-Quan Masters is a freeware port/frontend thing of an MS-DOS version of the game (you can also install previously 3DO-only voicepacks) with some improvements like most important of all compatibility with modern OS-s. I myself don't know if the game originated on 3DO (and am lazy to google), but I remember playing it on my MS-DOS PC in the 90-s. An actual masterpiece. I personally think that Star Control II port (?) is one of the only redeeming factors of 3DO. Also The Horde, Gex and Return Fire were really great on PC, superior in every way to 3DO versions as far as I've seen in this video. It's really a strange console and my experience of interacting with it was rather painful.
+FairyRat The project started in August 2002, when Toys For Bob released the partially ported sources of Star Control 2 3DO version to the fan community.
3DO is a console from a short-lived, yet interesting period - there is no real blocky PS1-style 3D, but it already features FMV, CD audio and hi color graphics - I wish the industry hadn''t jumped on the extremely low-poly 3D bandwagon so quickly.
History shows it was the right path, the ps1 is one of the greatest systems if not the greatest of all time.
It's videos like this that make me glad I lived through the dark days of early 3D gaming. Things are so much better now.
Thanks for another great episode guys, you make the best retro gaming content on UA-cam.
I was bored and couldn't sleep so I looked at the clock and thought "Oh Game Sack normally posts a new video every other Sunday morning at around 2:00 AM EST" So I went to You Tube and low and behold there it is!! You guys rock!! Right on schedule!!! Thanks for the great episodes!!!
Thanks for watching!
The 3DO library was a very mixed bag. It had really nice ports of Samurai Shodown, and Wolfenstein 3d, but on the other hand, it did have the dreaded Plumbers Don't Wear Ties.
3DO DooM also sucked big time!
***** yeah, 3do doom was terrible. Like, people say saturn doom was bad, but it was at least comparatively playable
Every system has a mixed bag of good and crap games
johnnybisco that's true, but the 3do had that going for it to a greater extent. There were a few really good games, and an alarming amount of bad ones.
Ronny Webster kind of like the 32x lol
7yrs later still coming back to just listen 👂👌🏻
Been waiting for this one for a while. Thanks you guys for releasing such long in depth videos when you do a console rundown. I do not know any other you-tuber who releases such long game related videos. Keep up the good work.
I quite like my 3DO, Japan ended up getting some pretty good exclusive titles, my favorite is Policenauts, a Konami game that's kind of like a Lethal Weapon/Snatcher hybrid, my copy even came with a mouse and cool Policenauts mouse pad.
As usual japan gets the good stuff.
Yeah, but I can't read Japanese, so that port is useless to me.
well your 3do is one of the worst console ever made
David White True! But, I'm suprised you guys hadn't covered the Japanese titles like Kid S. said Policenauts, Sailor Moon S, J.B Harold Blue Chicago Blues, the Haunted House first person RPG game (forgot the name of it), etc..? I understand if you didn't had a copy or haven't know anything about it then it's cool :)
KidShoryuken what's the point of playing policenauts in japanese? You can now play the much improved saturn version with light gun support.
The 3D0 must have had a strict 'No Colour Theory' allowed rule. Yikes!
I love that you guys cover this stuff!
Man this channel is awesome, is the only one where they talk about stuff I didn't already know.
Hey, it has the best version of Road Rash. The version with Soundgarden.
"I'm gonna break my rusty caaaaaaage!!"
Have you heard Johnny Cash's version of Rusty Cage?
@@projectmayhem6898 Yeah it's awesome
The Saturn version also had Soundgarden and the FMV. Granted, I will say the 3DO scaled much more smoothly...and I have no idea why.
How about doing an episode on games released on outdated consoles? (e.g. made for the NES in 1992, PS2 in 2007, etc.)
The controller Port design is actually brilliant wonky but brilliant because you never need a multi-tap and you're never limited to a fixed set of controller ports
YES! I've been hoping you guys would cover this thing some day! It's probably my favorite failed system.
More like 3D NO. amirite?
Pretty much.
Carsonj13 Cmon now you know the Nes is the best console ever lol and how does having an opinion makes us retrofags?
Carsonj13 hmmm. A rage filled douche comment.....over a joke.... go take your medication. Maybe even double up on the dose? I dunno, Im not a doctor.
The Game Chasers "Side-stepping is a great defensive movement. When you have an aggressive fighter comin' at you, you wanna create an angle, by steppin' to the side."
Carsonj13 Thats great. Although Im not defending myself. Im pointing out that you are a tool who doesnt understand the concept of a joke. I also bet you licked the Cheeto crust off your fingers and pushed up your glasses before you made your first comment. Amirite?
joe gave himself road rash while poor dave had to play plumbers dont wear ties haha
Lmao
Loved the stop motion clip on the end!
Thank you for taking us back....To the pique of those eras.....
It's really nice to see a 3DO review that isn't just making a joke about how bad it is the whole time. Thanks for the balanced look!
I got a Goldstar 3DO (the cheap one) a little while after it was released, but before the PS1 came out. It was a lot of fun at the time, since the only other option was a 16-bit system that was obviously much weaker. However, looking back, a lot of the games were very awkward and unappealing because it was so early in the 2D-to-3D transition. Most of the best games on the system got ports to other consoles, such as the The Horde getting a better port to Saturn, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo eventually finding its way to PS1 in better condition in a SF collection. I can't see any real reason to get it today.
Star FIGHTER, Star FIGHTER, Star FIGHTER. By far the best game for the 3DO
Just wanted to say I really enjoy your video's. All well done and very informative! Thanks Guys!
For some reason the 3do version of Need for Speed is my favourite. lol
I remember wanting 3DO, but they were too expensive
By far the best retro game review channel.
Star Control 2 was worth the price of admission for me. Also LOVED Escape From Monster Manor.
I dunno why UA-cam didn't recommend this channel earlier. Subscribed!
i always believed EA should re-release or reboot Road Rash but they'll probably just fuck it up
DumbPunk On one hand, I agree? On the other, I remember it's EA and realize it'd just be Dungeon Keeper all over again. Then I slap myself for being that stupid.
DumbPunk they are now. Look it up :)
18:49 This part completely reminds me of an old friend whenever he would do an impression of anyone. Top class acting.
there is pleasure in watching your videos, I really appreciate the nostalgia and format, thanks guys! keep up the good work! Greetings from Poland! :)
Joe and Dave are the two best people in the world. Thank you for another great episode! Now I´ll go mow my lawn.
2:56 AYEE who’s watching this in the year 2019??
AAAYYYYYEEEE
EYYYY DIS 2020
Most popular sub-genre of the 3DO is "WTF-". It has "WTF-fighting", "WTF-thirdPersonShooter" and even simply "WTF" games. Though, it has its own hidden gems!
i remember back in 1994 when the 3d0 first came out, my brother took me to go with him when he purchased this system. yes it was $700.00 but my brother haggled the store owner and got it for $650.00 plus a couple of games. i believed it was samurai showdown and super street fighter 2 turbo. but the model he had was the square version and it was mostly metal. but this system was awesome till the PlayStation came out. another great video guys. everytime I watch your videos on classic games and systems it just brings back so many great memories because i literally grew up with video games in my life. you guys rock. thank you 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You didn't mention the 3DO's best feature, the Cd player visualizations!
That was a cool extra that I used from time to time.
Loved the closing animation...
What a nice touch to end the episode!
I remember seeing 3DO games at Blockbuster alongside PlayStation and Saturn games. The 3DO ones were literally never rented out, and I grew to have this utter fascination with the console. To this day, I’ve never seen one in person nor known anyone who had one.
I had one when it came out but only because my dad was the manager of an electronics store
I'm always entertained by the things that happen in the end credits :). It's just one of the extra touches that makes your show stand out and a joy to watch each time. Keep up the good work guys :).
you didnt review:
Samurai Showdown
Yu Yu Hakusho
Ultraman Powered
No California Chrome Triple Crown victory in the Belmont this past weekend - and that's a big bummer - but brightening my life is a new edition of Game Sack!! Thanks Mr. Sack!
I think that the 3DO really could have gone more places _if only_ the price had been better, they had followed industry leaders in terms of how they licensed and released games (As well as perhaps actually having the 3DO company sell the systems), placed more focus on just games and put less time/money into the pipe dream that was getting the 3DO to be a "standard" to play movies, shop online and so on. The hardware really WAS next level for the time and amazing things could be done for it, and it had great potential. I still think it's an all right system and I liked it growing up, I wish I had my old one but I met a dude who was willing to sell me a working one for a good price.
Star control for the genesis is a great game one of my alltime favorites :)
Game Sack!!!!!
I didn't know that there was enough 3D0 content to make a thirty seven minute video. I still remember playing Road Rash at a Radio Shack on the 3D0 once. I've never met anyone who owns a 3D0 due to the extremely high cost and low availability. It's a good thing that most of the worthwhile games like Road Rash and Need For Speed were ported to Sony PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
Awesome video, the final few seconds with the 3do consoles playing pong with a 32x was hilarious.
Man, I spent HOURS with NFS on 3DO. It was supposed to be a straight up driving simulator, not an arcade game like the Playstation incarnation.
You could get some pretty spectacular crashes. It was very, very cool back in the day.
Geek Therapy Radio the saturn version is pretty good.
Fitting timing, I just hooked my FZ-10 back up last night. Glad to hear someone else finds the map function in Bladeforce to be confusing as well, haha.
im rewatching this in 2018. great channel
Coolest internet series out there. It's awesome that you guys aren't afraid to say how ever you naturally feel about games rather than giving something a pass based on it's reputation. It's also great that you guys cover the obscure or least covered rather than doing the typical thing and reviewing Mario, Zelda, or Mega Man for the millionth time.
Thank you.
David White You're welcome. : )
Dave there's a PC version of Star Control II called Ur-Quan Masters. It's open source and free. It's based off of the source code for the 3DO version. It also restores the missing intro and ending to the game. Check it out if you feel like playing it but don't have a 3DO handy. :) sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php
Cool thanks for the tip. I'll check it out
There is also a PSP version of UrQuan Masters that plays quite well
I love that game. It's just SO RAD.
Ah, I just love these episodes centered on consoles. Even the N64 one was good (at least for me).
Great Episode ive actually been wanting to watch something on the 3do for awhile
I was on vacation in vermont camping this past weekend with no Wi-fi and I felt a disturbance, the fact that a Gamesack episode was released and I didnt see it must have been what that disturbance was.
27:31
Is that Dog the bounty hunter?
How do you manage to make me interested in systems famous for sucking, FMV videos and Kirk Cameron's Town defense Simulator?
Thanks for the awesome episode Guys :D
It must be our silky smooth voices and Joe's superb editing skills.
Had to come back to this Episode After, Years soo awesome.
The 3DO version of Star Control II source code was a long time ago and fans have ported that version of the game to work on modern PCs-- renamed as The Ur-Quan Masters.
Hahaha that was great!
I used to play 3D0 at a gameshop....it had an amazing Samurai Shodown and that Super Street Fighter 2 was the best arcade port on 32bit platforms. Sadly because the taxes and crazy south american economy in the 90's the console was too expensive, I mean really impossible to buy here in Brazil...to an extent you could buy a brand new 0km car instead.
lol, so many memories of that time when the 3DO was the supreme king in graphics and had much more blaaast processing than the 32x.
Joe, did you mod your 3DO so that it can output 240p instead of 480i?
(I know you hate 480i in games as much as I do)
+FinalBaton I have not, but that is a mod I've had my eye on. I want to do an RGB mod at the same time. I have the FZ10 so I'd have to have a switch because it wants to boot in 480i.
+Game Sack Why Do you Hate Interlaced so much, Joe?
Isn't the capability to display 3D graphics in VGA resolution one of if not the most outstanding technical overcome beyond the other consoles of the time? Especially when comparing for e.g. The Need for Speed on 3DO and PSX it's clearly visible why the PSX version is running at that pace (and don't gets much faster gearing up).
Anne Devour The 3DO games actually don't take advantage of the increased resolution. The games' raster is only 320×240, and is linedoubled just before being outputted from the console. So there's no extra detail being gained here with the 480i output resolution.
This is why, with the 3DO, a 240p output is optimal : you eliminate the soft picture and interlacing artifacts, AND you don't loose any detail. Win-win.
Then tell me why the lines on the road in games like Road Rash or Need for Speed are far more visible and crisp than in the Playstation version.
As usual; Great video!!!! Brilliant stop motion work at the end too!
I've been watching you guys since a year, and It's really fun and kinda relaxing to watch your videos. I really like it, keep it up!! Greetings from Paraguay!!
Thank You!
And 2 years after Way of the Warrior, Naughty Dog released Crash Bandicoot. Thank goodness Crash was actually on PS1.
I agree. Crash is awesome. Way of the warrior is ugh...
David White i love how you respond to a lot of your viewers comments! You guys rock!
What's interesting to note is that it was thanks to WotW that the Crash series even began, as they were part of a three-game deal that Universal Interactive signed with ND after Mark Cerny was impressed with their work. There's this Game Informer issue from 98 that has an interview with them and they do mention that as well as other facts about WotW, mainly on how the game was an extremely low-budget affair.
The 3 crash bandicoot games along with CTR are just awesome.
@@ViniVHSoares1993 spyro is FAR better
The evolution of video games was painful,at times,no doubt.
AWESOME video duders! New subber here, but I'll be watching all these videos. Mini documentaries on retro analog equipment, just...TOTALLY awesome you dudes!
Guile from Street Fighter being called Willy was funny
Ahahahah, as LGR said:
"Widdle racecar driver wanna go hoooome?" DOUCHE
I own a 3do at my parents house, it's a very quirky weird console. Can't say that I like that much, it's got a few good games but most of them are garbage and the system was way too expensive when it came out.
Everything was so filled with TUDE!!
Good evening my peeps I am in a great mood now for some revisited gamesack...YEAH BABY!!
How DARE you not to include Samurai "Slowdown" in that list?
Oh my GAWD... the SACRILEGE! XD
Will you guys review the Apple Bandai Pipin at some point? ( I may have gotten the name wrong). That's a console I've always been curious about.
We don't own one so it's not likely. If someone loans us one then we would do it
***** Wasn't released? I thought it was. I know it had a few noteworthy games despite being so obscure.
tiakpark
Yes it was released for consumers, but the catalog is a hair away from being literally non-existant. As in, if there are any games, there were all japanese and done by Bandai. I recall there being a Power Rangers Zero game, another called Racing Days and a port of Mac's Marathon.
Even the CD-i had a larger library.
I had the top loading 3DO.
Overall it was a good game console with some good games.
The best version of Gex had incredible sound and nice graphics that blew away the aging 16-bit consoles of the time and Wing Commander III was one of my favs.
When compared to other rare and lesser known game consoles the 3DO is far above the Atari Jaguar but below consoles like the Turbographix16.
Great thanks, love the longer videos too!
I love the 3DO version of Need For Speed. The FMV cut scenes of the guy talking smack made it funny and the PlayStation version lacked that.
but with the time between the two versions, EA did have a good opportunity to tweak the title and improve it for the PS1. I always called that the Need For Speed Version 1.5 :)
the guy taunting you on need for speed is really funny
he's actually dead now
Seriously?
tartrazine5 he died some months ago I believe. read it on the 3do forums. guy was only 49 I believe
You guys are AWSOME! Keep up your good work!!
The stop motion tear down is pretty awesome.
"goddess of giant hair" lol
So Palutena?
