    It's crazy, the thing about LeBron is the TIMING of things was good. The "face" usually need some storyline about their ascension. LeBron when he got to the Heat and had his storyline going, it was the year after Kobe won his last rings. So after Kobe was old and injured, Bron could replace him immediately. Unfortunately, now that Bron is getting old there's nobody to replace him. Some people who were "supposed" to replace him were like AD, Zion, Kawhi, all these mfs who cannot stay healthy. The actual dudes who were available and THAT good are all europeans which the media doesn't want to be true

    • @ChibiMalzahar
      @ChibiMalzahar Рік тому +16

      I agree with you all, there ARE people who can replace LeBron. Ant and Vic have potential. What I meant is when Kobe gave up the throne, Bron was already solidly in his prime. We already knew LeBron was talent wise among the very best ever without a shadow of a doubt, the question just became how high atop the mountain he would climb. Ant, and Victor, and even Ja Tatum Booker Luka etc. it's gonna be years before we know what they'll be like. Victor could be all that and a bag of chips, or he could be a tertiary star no better than Porzingis, or he could be injury prone, or he could be just an okay rotation piece. But we won't KNOW until years into his career. Even guys with really great young careers like Blake Griffin can far way short of that standard. We're talking about a level only 11 or so have played at on the court, and a level if mystique only about half of them pulled off. Tim Duncan won 5 rings, is unanimously the best PF ever, arguably has the best resume and accolades of his era, is a guy everyone likes, and is easily a top 10 player ever, pushes top 5, and he was *never* the face of the league. that era was always Kobe (or Shaq earlier on). I think that the fact that we don't have these big, culture-defining stars in entertainment anymore is also caused by social media. When MJ and Kobe played and even still during Lebron's early years the media and in this case the NBA could choose to push certain people over the others. Now everyone's a star and fame is getting so oversaturized that singular people don't rise up anymore like they used to.

      I definitely think Steph has a chance to be that if he can do something after LeBron either retires or seriously declines. People forget, it wasn't really until 2008 that Kobe was the face of the league, in the first half of the 00s it was Shaq and Kobe was definitely in his shadow and he was a pretty controversial figure for a few years after Shaq was traded. Wasn't more than a few years before LeBron became that but boy did those few years make an impression on people.

Regardless, look at the criteria he set out in the first few mins. It literally fits Steph perfectly. From 2016 onwards Stephs popularity has rivaled Bron’s worldwide. Jersey sales, internet views, game ratings (viewership) all point towards Steph being the face of the league. Remember, you don’t have to be THE best player…but Steph been the “golden boy”. I agree to some extent. The only reason lebron is somewhat “still” the face of the nba, is because he is still performing adequately. Even when he got swept, he still drop 40 points in game 4. And he still broke the league’s points record.
      Its not like people talked about him for the sake of it. He was rightfully talked about.
      To some extent you are right that he is the face of the nba. Not even jokic breaking records left and right was able to capture the media’s attention. In part because he is white. I believe that if jokic was non-white American, he would’ve already be the face of the nba

Grew up in Nigeria/Cameroon/Congo/Kenya in the late 90's/early 2000's and the hype over Kobe and Iverson was ridiculous. This is in Africa with extremely limited internet access at the time. The NBA would be more popular if the media propped up more players and more teams around the league. The NFL is the most popular sport in America with a lot more household names and I believe that is because they are more broadly covered. I have a barber shop and ESPN is on all day. Every other sport covers a variety of players and teams. When it comes to the NBA LeBron and whatever team he's on and Curry and the Warriors are covered wayyyyy more than any other team. It doesn't matter if those teams are trash at the moment. New Orleans and Milwaukee can be number 1 in their conference while the Lakers and Warriors are struggling and outside of the playoffs and it's still the same song and dance. The league needs to highlight more of the best players and teams despite their market. But I'm a Pacers fan so I might be a bit biased😅

    one thing im worried about the nba is how lebron and curry, the playoff gatekeepers once they retire, the games never gonna be the same. The current Talent pool in the nba right now will never be the same, especially after victor wembanyama, so enjoy it while you can

    Steph was clearly the next face of the league until the fans hated him due to a perfect plend of 4 factors:
    • Media oversaturation,
    • Butthurt Lebron fans
    • Butthurt Jordan Fans (he was RIGHTFULLY being compared to Jordan his MVP years)
    • Butt hurt Russell Westbrook fans (they REALLY hated Steph and were a very large and VERY vocal following)
    Not even mentioning Steph in this video doesn't bode well for any hoops knowledge coming from this guy

      Lebron is the most hated nba player ever and was still the face, curry just wasn’t as popular as bron
