Like it a lot, but have one question....
Is the video also filmed with the 7D mark 2?
***** at least the skiing portion was. It appeared that all or most was.
2shave
I hope so, video is looking good!
***** it does look like atleast part of it was shot with the 7Dmk2. Would be good to test out the video on this camera and see how it compares to the 70D interms of video.
Canon Australia can please add one small feature to all of your cameras. The ability to turn the front LED on when recording video so the talent knows when it is on.
Well, I've recently bought the 7Dmkii, and coming from the original 7D, this new camera is fantastic. I loved using it. Totally worth the upgrade.
The amount of people complaining about the 7D II's video features astounds me. The 7D Mk II is a wildlife and sports camera first, and video camera second. if you want better video features, buy a video camera.
Don't complain that you've got an apple because you really wanted an orange.
i will be getting me a 7D MK II, gotta have it.
Kudos to Mark Horsburgh, I just got my 7D Mark II and I need to schedule time to visit action events and places similar to where he visited. Great Video!
What's up with all the amateurs in the comment section bitching about not having 4K video? This is a bloody still camera, and it's one hell of a fine camera for what it's intended for. If you want 4K, go buy an actual video camera and stop bitching about it.
bitching about 4k coz its their new buzz word! looking through specs looking for omissions and bitching for the sake of it. its a savage camera and on my shopping list...eventually! upgrade from my 60d
Most of who complains don't even own a camera. What Canon has offered in this camera is just awesome.
riccar11 you said this awesome coz you never try other camera, i havent tested this mark 2 yet, but it is NO for me BIG NO for 1800 for just ordinary upgrade
Enriko Mulawarman How exactly is this an ordinary upgrade? This camera is a huge stepup from any other Canon APS-C camera right now.
You sound like someone who has to buy the new iPhone every year, and complains when the newst model isn't fundamentally different from the previous year's model.
Agree with you BiN4RY. We are photographers, not videographers.
7D2 is expected to have no 4K video recording but 5D4 does.
For me, 7D2 is a great improvement in term of ISO control, and 65-point AF system with a f/2.8 compatible high precision dual-cross center AF point that also supports AF at f/8 is more or less even better than 5D3.
With a price less than US$2000, we cannot demand too much, right?
The 5D Mark 4 hasn't even been announced yet.
You've seen the Panasonic GH4, right? Under $2,000.
kalieaire The GH4 is a mirror-less camera with a four-thirds sensor, please try again.
GH4, NX1 and A7s are 2 steps ahead of canon. A 4/3 sensor, A Full Frame or A Super 35. Any of them are way ahead on everything, from image quality to all the features for video...
MonGe El Genio Musical how can you straight up tell me IQ is better from micro four thirds than full frame, now you lot are trolling.
Which objectif are you using with ?
For filming and taking photos ?
I love my 70D, but this is an awesome display. I guess I may have to think about upgrading in the near future.
It's not what the camera can do it's the cinematographer behind the camera. All these comparisons a great cinematographer/videographer can make any camera look amazing. I'm sure this 7D markii would work wonders in the right persons hands regardless of 4k or a full sensor.
True videographers can work well with this camera.
The 7d Mark II is obviously aimed towards action photography, if you don't like the specs then go buy your GH4 or NX-1. The 7d's focus is obviously NOT video. If your focus is that, then go buy another camera and stop complaining.
Well this was the right review i been looking for. Im buying the mark ii. Thanks canon.
Some people are griping about the lack of 4K in this camera, but how many of them are actually considering the fact that very few people have a 4K display at home to view 4K material? What's the point shooting in a resolution that the vast majority of people can't view properly?
We want 4k because we don't want our footage become obsolete 2 years from now. Hope this lights a bulb
I guess I can understand that point of view. Then again, did classic films of yesteryear become obsolete once HD became the standard? A good film is a good film regardless of resolution. One of my favorite shows of all time, The Wire, was shot in 480i with a 4:3 aspect ratio. When I'm watching the show, I can ignore the fact that it's not HD because its quality is in the writing and acting.
Boyd C. George The other advantage of 4K is being able to crop the video in post-processing to 1080p, so it gives you editing flexibility in your shots if you shoot slightly wider than you need.
Omesh Singh Or to downsample to sharpen and reduce noise.
We already have enough gear that can shoot 1080p 60p and the funny thing is, you don't have to pay $1799 for this. If the technology is there, you could have been using it with a new camera that you're buying today.
I am primarily interested in still photography. I currently own 2 canon 40d's and have a fair amount of money tied up in Canon lenses. I'm not a Canon fanboy, but I am excited about buying the 7D MKII, because "high" iso has been a real limitation for me with low light shooting, for which birds seem to just love showing up. I don't have a problem with people who have different needs or wants griping about certain missing features. It is extremely important that self-interest be communicated to the manufacturer of any product, so that the desires of individuals, however many or few they be, are heard by the company. That is how they learn what those who spend their hard-earned money want. In other words it gives a warning to them that some of their base users might just jump ship if they don't get their collective act together and push themselves to the top of the curve on product development and delivery in every aspect possible. While it is absolutely true that it's a big financial hit for a heavily invested Canon user to move to a different manufacturer, it is an equally big hit to Canon to lose a user who will potentially continue to spend significant money on another company's products. It does cut both ways, even if it is a much more personal hit to us financially. That said, not being a videographer, I'd rather have a system tailored to still photography, so that the cost of video features don't increase the price of the camera.
I think what we have here is a camera that is pretty clearly designed for sports and wildlife photography dabbling in video to an extent that is just tantalizing enough to generate some righteous backlash among those who have a wider repertoire than myself. I see no reason to revile those for whom this is a pleasant upgrade, or those who point out features that they feel should have been included. It would be nice to know how much it would realistically cost for the features to be added, but I've yet to see any estimates of any sort. If there are any engineers out there, please chime in. And whether you are a Canon user or not, best of luck in getting what you want in your equipment. Keep speaking up for your self-interest, because it gives them a chance to address concerns before you move to another company's product, and that's how the market works best. For some that boat has already sailed; for the rest, I guess we'll see.
Great working on this film NZ is an amazing location
Best camera APSC, go Brazil!
*I appreciate the video, hope to see more!*
I also have a Canon camera with built in WiFi. It uses the battery that much faster when switched on. I do use it for remote shooting from my iPhone and to transfer files back to the iPhone. The files it sends back are smaller than the ones on the camera though. I wonder if the WFT-E5 will work on the mkII.
7D also very popular for Video. Unfortunately they didn't deliver the 4K to their customers like others. A step behind Panasonic and Sony.
I agree with some of the commenters saying it's more of an ad than a review. I still want this camera though. It would compliment my 5D Mark III very well.
Its really great camera
I don't dislike the video, it's well shot. But I too would like to know whether it was shot with a 7D (obviously some of the footage was a 7D, right?) They should have been very clear about that going in. I like the new features, would like to have seen some low light samples too, but as to a "review" I think it's more an infomercial. Having owned a 7D previously, I would ask the following of a "review": Have they improved the video codecs? The macroblocking of my videos on the 7D compared to my 5D was stunningly worse. The video was just soft compared to other Canon products. Also, it is surprising that there is no 4K on this *new* camera. Why does that matter to a still photographer? Massively. You can pan and crop inside a 4K frame and still preserve amazing photographic fidelity. I was not clear I would want a 4K still camera but the more I think of it, the more that if I'm paying more than an iPhone, it's probably worth comparing other new brands that offer it. The competition has it, and so I'll be making the comparison. As someone that shoots both stills and video, I use my 5D (and used to use my 7D) more than I use my video cameras, primarily because I can choose the end result in camera, which has led to a cover of a leading kayaking magazine, which I would not have got if I had just a video camera with me. When I can only take one camera, it's the 5D (and was the 7D). I'm unlikely to choose a 7D based on this, but I am willing to be convinced.
What other DSLRs have 4k video and why does it matter for a Camera aimed at the sports market, honestly it's almost as if some of you have nothing better to do other than post stupid spec related comments because you can't actually take decent photos.
This looks ridiculously good im satisfied with it, i'll be able to afford one next year after the 23rd of march cant wait to pick one up.
Une video intelligente , révélatrice , convaincante, bravo aux gens du marketing ! Toute une caméra .
They took 4.5 years to come up with some fps and some extra focuspoints
Sometimes I think we all start from level stupid. Some will stop, think, and then give an opinion, but most of us just blurt out whatever comes to mind at level stupid. While I'll have to test this camera out for myself to determine if it's for me or not, the presenter tells us right from the start (not to mention description) that this is... yep, you've just seen it now..."built for Action". I've got the 7D mk I (we can now call it that :)). I bought it over the 5D mk II because I shot a lot of motorsport at the time, and that's what it was designed for. Canon have continued with improvements of the same idea and concept (sports, action, wildlife, etc). Why, for all things holy, are we expecting them to suddenly switch to something else? The 7D has always been designed for Action Photography. They've simply improved upon that, and we're crying about... *restraint Mikey*... f*^king 4K! *calming down* :D
Got mine will be using in anger this weekend so watch out form some sample images of UK Huskie racing.
Why are people bitching about the video capabilities of this camera? this is a PHOTO camera with video function not a VIDEO camera, this camera is suited more for sports and wildlife photographers not for videomakers, so stfu if you dont like it just dont buy it, keep buying your shitty gh4 with micro four thirds sensor and tons of noise up to 3200 iso good luck!
If it's not a video camera then why 1080 60fps, hdmi out, and mic out? They could've made it better but yet they held back. I'm not saying that I would rather have a gh4 or something like that (because I wouldn't). Same as the gh4, if it isn't a video camera then why 4k 0_o?
kevi drresser GH4 is focused more in video, their stills suck, its more a video camera... and the 7d is a sports camera, with video capabilities thats it....
I agree. Go and buy a video camcorder or a Sony or whatever. We are photographers, not videographers.
Well put. It's a stills camera best suited to sports and wildlife.
kevi drresser Video, mic and HDMI are just bonuses they throw in there. Do note these DSLRs with video function have great noise processing at really high ISOs. Hell, my 70D has no noticeable noise at 6400 when taking video, for me.
What camera was this filmed with, like the close ups on the reviewer.
Never seen canon market a crop frame camera to be used as a professional tool before. Any opinions?
So glad that I switched to Sony some years ago :-)
a77 MK II is so cool !
Was that a Canon 100-400L he was using for race car in the first shots? I've been thinking of upgrading to this or the 5D
Great video, i am heavenly considering getting the 7d2 to replace my 70d and partner with the 5D3...
Funny thing is I watched this video over and over and over again... Just trying to figure out what bag you are using for your gear. Coincidentally I came across the Loki and loved it from fstopgear then on comparison on features I noticed that's the bag at 2:15 shoulder strap.... Guess this video helps in canon decisions aswell as third party carry options
Thanks
@Canon Australia - as someone who was shooting fantastic wildlife photos comfortably with a 7D, I was hoping the 7D2 physical body was a mini version of the 1D-X, ie integrated vertical grip with larger battery. Technically you have hit the mark with AF but sensor wise the competition is so strong now. Sony have amazing low light sensors and even Samsung are bringing out great SLR products. I also wanted to see 4K video. Some smart phones are shooting 4K and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is about to 4K with a firmware upgrade. 5 years of waiting does not give us the 7D2, 3 years maybe.
Cool vid when is it on sale !!
Sorry, Canon, 7D2 was my last hope too. Now...
For me, being a Canon fan for years, it's very sad moment. You stuck. Nothing what we really needed, for twice the price of original 7D. These cameras don't really differ so much to exuse sich a price.
No 4k. 60p? Even iPhone can do 120. No raw video or some reasonable video-codec at least. I guess sharpness will be on the same poor level. Sensetivity? We'll see...
I'm sad to say that, but you stuck in greed, you don't listen to us. You loose, and we loose. It least as long, as we stay with you.
Sorry again, but I consider moving to Sony.
Everything you said is true. 7D was our last big hope for canon. And it was a total let down.
Bye. Oh you can send me your crappy 7D and lenses.
You seem to have absolutely no idea of how much the AF on the 7D could be upgraded do you. 7D is an action camera so 1DX level AF is a huge upgrade.
What was your last hope for the 7D2? Sounds like you've been waiting for the wrong model range of camera... If it's ultimate image quality you want, you need to go full frame.
10 fps, dual card slots, better IOS, The best AF canon has in any camera ( taken from the 1Dx). Big buffer, HDMI out, Mic in/out
The GH4 has a 40 fps burst mode and Mic in/out and it is cheaper and has 4K video and flip out screen.
Funny that you mention the mic in/out thing, it is actually a simple cheap thing that Canon deliberately keeps out of most of its DSLRs to screw its clients and force them to spend more.
Just look at Magic Lantern and see all the features that canon can add in the software but just choose to keep out to screw their clients. Well screw you too Canon! SCREW YOU TOO!!
A Full Frame body with thoses features will be awesome ! Maybe the next 5D IV or whatever ! :)
hello canon usa, I wanted to ask you why today in 2021 is the canon 7d mark ii still valid for sports photography?
in Vietnam we want to buy and own it immediately , I simply enjoyed the new technology of the canon , it is true that prices are slightly higher for one camera is not fullfame
Touch Screen??? as seen by the 70D ?
Was the video shot with a 7D mark 2?
Great camera indeed, but have a catch!! Don't have Movie Servo AF at Full HD 60fps.
This cam is gonna go bananas when Magic Lantern comes to it, as the new processor is even more rubust than the 5D Mark III. Now we can only pray for the devs of ML to implement 4K video in 7D Mark II
Is the video shot on the canon 7Dii?
Is it good for Portrait, Candid & Event photography?
Still a wonderful model in 2021. I pair it with a 5DIV. Together, they can handle anything I throw at them.
This video, is recorded with the same DSLR ?
I want one of these really badly
Buy one then?
I loved my 7D. Then decided that the 6D, with full frame might give me some advantages.........Yeeee Haaaaa! love that bloody thing!
No wait, hang on! they are both great cameras...I sure love mine. Go Canon ;-)
can you give me the heads up on what settings I should have my 7d mark to for shooting golf on mens professional golf as they swing slow and quick and love getting that ball right off the club face keep burst shots all in focus please
If you bought a 7DMKII you should know. If you want to see thr ball off the tee. You need a fast shutter speed.
Hope this cam will replace my 70D in three years or so, love that 10fps!
The processor is powerful enough for 1080p at 60fps, then it should be able to handle 30fps QHD too. Maybe we'll see it in the next major firmware update ;)
Are you kidding me? Canon has just told every canon user to go F themselves. And you are still hoping for features in a firmware upgrade???
Samtagri Who said 4K ? I said QHD. The processor is powerful enough for QHD at 30FPS (but no one knows if there were other limitations).
is it available yet? in korea?
Is it full frame cam?
Cracks me up reading theough some of these comments, some right clueless negative morons on here that have probably never used laid hands on this camera yet criticise the fuck out of it, i recently purchased one as a second sport and action backup body and let me tell you this camera is a beast, almost perfect in every way its practically a 1dx in 1.6 crop factor. Amazing camera, and im really pleased with mine. And the people saying its a dissapointment in the changes from the 7d, wake the fuck up 😂 Its a totally re designed camera, Jerks!!!!
+Marc Birks Totally agree...I photograph nature specially birds with it and I am getting beautiful results. And still have room for improvement if I invest on a Canon 500mm F4 lens or better. I honestly don't see any major difference in IQ between an image from any camera out-there that people are raving about in comparison to a Canon. I really boils down to who is behind it and the after processing.
Marc Birks I’ve used it for 3 years mainly for wildlife photography, a place where the 1.6 crop is a real advantage. The ten frames a second is amazing at the price and it’s colour rendering is second to none. It’s an amazing camera and I can honestly say I can’t find a fault with it.
Awesome. I need to upgrade my 7D to the Mark II
please tell me what lenses were used in this video
Looks like a really nice camera.
However, I would say the 70D + Sigma 18-35mm lens is very hard to beat right now.
70D is a better camera for some things. And of course you can use the Sigma 18-35mm on the 7D2 as well. I use mine on a 1D Mark IV.
60 fps in FullHD.
Better than nothing but somehow I hope for more.
Is it me? Or does the video quality look like the Sony A5100? It has a smudge look to it and soft.
i'm getting exited
About what?
Anyone know the make and model of the camera backpack he has in the outdoor photoshoot?
can it shoot raw video canon? otherwise ill stick to my canon 7d with ML.
What drone is used in the video?
Canon EOS 7D Mark II: I'm waiting for this to buy a camera.
I will use this camera to capture the moments of current contemporary life going on around me.
What is the lever on the joystick for?
Yes, please!
HOW INCREDIBLY........ UNEXCITING lol...
Canon has EOS-1D C which can record 4K ( $9,999.00 - B&H photo price), now does it make sense putting 4K capab. to an approx. 2.000$ dslr?
I don't think that people understand the camera line up from bottom to top.
If people really serious about 4K could get a GH4 indeed.
Others easily can put 4K to their cameras to attract people beside themselves.
Thinking and living as a company not easy as thinking like a person. Judging is so easy for us...
This is something real Canon&Nikon can not easily change their state and line ups like other brands.
But doesn't mean they won't...
What lenses did he use in this video?
Which lens was used in this video? ( the grey one,is it 70-200) And i didn't see a great deal different than the 7d well should i say not enough to folk out all that money.. considering how good the 7d is anyway!
You're not going to see a gigantic leap in image quality in general, but you WILL see a noticeable difference in low light image quality (high ISO) - which wasn't really shown here. This is preliminary, so take it for what it is worth, but this is pretty telling. Check out the 7D at some high ISOs compared to the mk ii from this site. Choose the same picture and same ISO setting for each so you have a good comparison.
www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
Thanks for your reply, to be honest am still learning the 7d?
So at $1,799, as a customer, I ask myself, is the 7D2 better than the GH4? Hmmm I'm going to wait for the reviews.
Does it shoot 10 FPS in RAW?
Which would be the best lenses to stick on it? Anyone
Should i buy in 2020
2:17? "everything in focus" really? Because I see everything out of focus. Is it the video quality?
everything is in focus. But due to low lighting conditions (mentioned in the video) it has motion blur, as you may know it has nothing to do with focusing.
Love the chromatic effect on that £1200 lens.
Nice camera that would have been great to work with in 2010. Sony and Panasonic offer more for less as in the GH4. Still, it will get the job done.
two SD cards and built-in intervalometr?
sounds great... just like it was back in 2010 with Nikon D7000.
GPS and video 60p sounds even better, like in Sony SLT-A77 in 2011.
Canon, why so slow?
once again love the canon EOS 7D mark II, its really fast and powerful love to have one,cos i really love photography, canon, if not too mush can i have Free camera!
Hi, I have a 600D and for last few days my inbuilt flash is not working. What should I do next ??? I have no idea as I am a beginner. Are there any chances to fix my problem ??? Your suggestion will be suggested.
Dont worry about the inbuilt flash you dont need it anyway.
Get a Yongnuo or Canon external flash. That is the best way if you like using flash.
Awesome indeed..
All these people complaining about the video side of it. This camera like the rest is first & foremost a great digital stills camera. The video is an added bonus. If you want to shoot dedicated video go get a dedicated video camcorder or Canon Cine camera .We didn't have video bundled with still cameras before the 5Dmk2 came along. The cost of these cameras with the added video features when you think about it is a bargain. Its a bit like buying a Sony HD camcorder & complaining it takes lousy still frame pictures!......
7d mark ii vs. 6d? and... go!
I noticed banding in the sky? For the price I'm not convinced. A great camera, but for the price, a big question mark from Canon??
The original 7D was one of the most popular (and best selling) cameras that has ever existed, and 5 years ago - it released at a price of $1,699. Considering inflation, the release price of $1,799 5 years later is virtually identical. In fact, considering the upgrades over the 7D, most people are surprised that the price point is as low as it is. Big question mark? No. Not if you understand just a little bit about how the market works. This will be a best seller just like the original 7D. You can't have a best seller unless the price is on the lower side of expectations, so while _you_ might complain about the price; most people won't. You are in the minority.
IF you want 4K video recording, you should try GO Pro HERO3+, it only costs you US$487.
Being a 7D user, I do surprise that 7D2 in most aspects, are better than 6D, in terms of the focusing points (65 for 7D2 vs 11 for 6D), shooting speed (10fps for 7D2 vs 4.5fps for 6D) and the MOST important thing is that, 7D2 video recording has "Custom Movie Servo AF functions with "Movie Servo AF Speed"~!
Then how about 5D3? Should you expect 7D2 (less than US$2,000) with such a low price better than 5D3 (US$3330)? In some aspects, it does~! The function of "Interval Timer" and "Bulb Timer" to set the number of shots with designated interval and bulb exposure time cannot be found in 5D3~! It is very usefully to take startrails.
The auto focusing speed under video mode of 7D2 is also very useful. I have tried using a 5D3 to record video in a Wedding Party, 5D3 cannot focus on the couple and I need to turn to maunal focus mode. The output of the video is really bad, as all know that you are trying to focus on the couple while watching your video afterwards.
Do remember that, a DSLR is a camera, and we should focus on its ISO performance, shooting speed, shutter release time lag (55ms for 7D2, while 59ms for 5D3), rather than if it got a 4K video recording spec.
A DSLR is a camera, a Digital Camcorder is a video recorder, a iPhone is a mobile phone. Once again, will you expect iPhone 6, to have 4K video recording, a series of lens for you to change, and take a photo with ISO 6400 but still no noise at all? Yes, maybe, but then the "iPhone 6" will cost you US$10,000 or even US$100,000 , rather than US$1,000. And may be 007 James Bong will buy it.
Dear Canon... just look at what Sony has been doing for the last 1 year. Wish you could do half of it in 5 years which you spent to determine where to put Mark II logo on the same camera body.
Amen brother. Amen
i love it. Congrats
Good job
Thanks
I only shoot still sport and wildlife photography, so video capture, I'm not too worried about. Even if I did, I don't have a 4k TV. In fact I hardly watch TV at all. To me this is a high quality still camera.
Oh ilove this..
Selling my 5d mark iii soon.. but NOT to buy another canon. Buying one of these: Lumix GH4, Samsung NX1 or Sony A7s. a 4/3 sensor, a Full Frame or a Super 35. Dont matter, they outperform this camera from image quality to all the features. Just Amazing!
Yes man. Canon is selling us out. It is time we get the hint and on to another company.
If you have no idea what you are buying, you can buy a red one and the most expensive lens on the market but you will remain what you are now.
+MonGe El Genio Musical (MonGeMusic) Big deal, boo hoo. Buy what you like, why would we care?
cooloox We care because it is a trend. Many people are ditching Canon and maybe it is time the rest do the same.
+Samtagri I wonder if there are any stats on that? A bunch of spec-fanboys in UA-cam does not represent the real photographers. I know that I won't be ditching my DSLRs any time soon for some kid-sized cameras. Often, these specs are meaningless and don't even work to a professional standard that could be relied upon for paid work!
Sweet
Anyone know what bag he is carrying?
While this is beautifully shot, I think the word "review" in the title is misleading.
This is definitely a commercial, not an objective inspection of the camera and its features.
I like canon. 👍
E full frame?
I must say the lack of wifi, the lack of a swivel touch screen and touch screen focus just convinced me that my next crop sensor camera will be a 70D. I'm not talking about the video side of the street either!
The lack of WIFI is because of the alloy the body is made out of. It wouldn't get out without creating a weak point in the sealing. There are ways around this though.
You don't need a swivel screen to take stills - and if you do, you're doing it wrong. Touch screen? I would agree if you were talking about focusing video, but you specifically said you're not talking about video.
Willoughby Krenzteinburg
I want the swivel screen as I have a bad back and to bet lower view or higher and tilt screen is needed.
scarmenl yeah, you'd benefit from the tilt screen. The reason the 7D mk ii doesn't have one is just a matter of build quality. It's weather resistant, and very rugged. The tilt screen would add a weak spot negating a lot of that.
Willoughby Krenzteinburg
True.
scarmenl Sounds like a P&S is in your future.
Canon that ad was terrible. Felt like an infomercial. Can't say I'm that happy with the specs after waiting 5 years. Looking at switching maybe now to Olympus.
Hey Clarky, it was more a film than an ad - we wanted to do something a little different, so sent Mark, our most seasoned Canon Master in high speed sports photography, off for an adventure to test it first. What specs are you looking for?
Canon Australia Full sensor readout and C-Log for video. You guys are still offering the same video quality as 5 years ago. The 7D2 was my last hope, will probably migrate to the A7s now!
I don't think the 7d mark ii would last as long as 7d did. Canon should have made a future proof camera which would last 4-5 years just like 7d did.
Canon Australia $1799 US, no thanks! I'll look to Nikon!
Is it just me, or are a lot of shots out of focus. Watched the video in 1080p but I am not impressed with the shots. Have to try it in real life I guess.
