  • I put together a quick video demonstrating a quick test of the Nikon's wireless networking capabilities with the WT-5 wireless transmitter. For now, I skipped over the configuration of the WT-5 and may talk more on that later, but you guys can read the manual for that - it's pretty much like configuring any wireless device so it helps to be a bit computer savvy.

    @bayXSonic the thing about this is the multitude of configurable options and the speed is just amazing

  • @AdamLernerPhoto
    @AdamLernerPhoto  12 років тому

    @tordern22 you can do peer to peer whereas the WT-5 will assign the camera an IP and you can connect via your iPad / iPhone as such.

    That's brilliant, my D3 often struggled with tethering in the field over simple USB and this clearly looks far more robust a solution.
    For editorial stadium sports coverage where shooters are often in reach of wifi routers on the track this is even better.

    Skin tones from the D4 look amazing.

    @desmondlaugh looks like you can actually do a p2p from the camera to your computer without a wireless network as well. still learning about this new tech.

    Twelve years later I’ve found a D4 for 800 euros with 59k shots near mint conditions and a wt-5 100 euros,less than mine P1000 payed 1200 euros new,i’m so satisfied D4 is still a great camera,in a world where all the foolish follows only the sensor’s pixel number😊Next step a D3X in best conditions 😊

    @JifferRiffic sorta nutty, and you can also set the camera to upload directly to an FTP site. also, all D4s have built-in ethernet, so i'm sure lots of news photogs will be rushing back to the press rooms to upload immediately

    @robertveen anyone with the camera's IP address over the same network has the ability to login via any browser.

    @paolowolverine too soon to tell, but i'm guessing it's draining the battery faster with networking going

    @MartinWalterPhoto actually you can do all of those things.

    It's pretty cool but it seems like it would only be useful in a studio setting if you have your camera completely fixed and aren't going to change the angle at all --- say product photography or food photography.
    Pretty sweet nonetheless. Keep the good stuff coming Nikon. ---- I too don't understand why the D800 isn't getting this capability. I can possibly see myself waiting for a D800 upgrade rather than getting either a D4 or D800.

    @TheArkymarky All Nikons and Canons have remote control software, but this isn't that.
    This is an actual web server. That's why he can use any device at all, with a web browser, to login to the camera wireless, control, liveview and browse images.
    ....And no, your Canon 40D doesn't have a built in web server :)

    Hi Adam. Is it also possible to broadcast the shots? Would be nice to have a client sit in his office (other end of the world for example) and follow the shoot as it goes. Should be possible if you set the NAT table in your router correctly rigth? Love your video's btw!

    Dear Adam, or any who can answer,,, i want to take a photo in a place, and do a print out through my laptop in another place that is 200 meters far away from the camera. How can the WT5 be helpful here if i got no wireless network in range. Thanks guys...

  • @jcat187
    @jcat187 12 років тому

    Why didn't they develop a way to control the camera via Bluetooth on and iPod, iPhone or iPad? Its seems pretty lame that you have to be tethered to a home network to be able to use this feature.

  • @tordern22
    @tordern22 12 років тому

    Do you have to be connected? Because i talked to Nikons product specialist over here in Norway, and he told me that you could connect your camera to an ipad/pod/phone in the middle of the forest.

    you must have an internet connection? if my laptop is not setup for an isp plan or can't find a wifi signal but still is brodadcasting will it be able to pick up the signal from the wt-5. this alone would be great for shooting. have the assit check the pic off in shade while Im shooting. also tom-hogan posted today abt the wireless option which made a lot of sense. great option but at what cost? (ie overage on bandwith charges or slow or spotty wifi). hell hath no fury like a verizon over limit

    I'm trying to setup ad hoc with my WT-5 but my Windows 8 and Android mobile devices cannot see the ad hoc network.

    • @baba98052
      @baba98052 7 років тому

      I tried ad hoc, and windows 8 said that it was not available. See previous post on this. After 2 tech hours, I was told to spend more money for their software so device could work. $179 fix

    • @raredreamfootage
      @raredreamfootage 7 років тому

      What I found out is that Windows 8 was not designed with support for ad hoc. Microsoft removed it for security reasons. All other versions support it however. I ended up using an ipad mini which connected to the WT-5 within 10 seconds.

      Good luck with the IP address. Spent 2 hours with Nikon trying to get device to work. Their free software will not work. After 2 hours the techs only solution was for me to spend another $179 for their picture controll2 software. Not happy with Nikon - this device is expensive and should come with software that works.
