Thanks, Joe. I had no idea that this utility existed. I look forward to doing a little testing. I'm wondering about transfer speeds (jpegs vs RAW) and any impact shooting volume might have on the camera. Thanks for going through all the steps to get this set up. This will definitely help me from getting frustrated during setup.

      @ShutterSpeak  10 місяців тому +2

Hi Mark - jpeg files are of course much smaller so I would expect you would see them arrive faster than a RAW file. In terms of speed though, this type of transfer uses Wi-Fi so it is very fast. Some factors will affect this though. The Nikon Z cameras support up to Wi-Fi 802.11ac which supports transfer speeds up to 1300 Mbps. If your home router is older, and for example, only supports up to Wi-Fi 802.11n you will only see speeds up to 450 Mbps. So your home network plays a big role here. Distance is also a factor as the further you get from the Wi-Fi router, the slower your speeds will be as the signal degrades. However, I see RAW files being transferred to my computer in about 2 to 3 seconds on average.

Hi Joseph, I did all the steps that you mentioned in the video, but I am not able to view any camera listed in the Nikon Wireless Transmitter Utility application (7:05 in the video). What could be the reason?

      I´ve got the same issue.

    • @fuzzymachinist
      @fuzzymachinist 4 місяці тому

I have the same problem. My setup is my PC(Win 10) is wired to the router and I was trying to connect my camera(Z7ii) to my wifi, and when I would reopen WTU on my pc after connecting to my wifi on the camera it would never show my camera. I can't try updating my router at the moment, other users in the house, maybe that could be the issue.
Edit: I did find a work around, not great but it does work. Its basically a direct connection but maintains network access on PC to save pics to a NAS or online share, in Windows settings> network> mobile hotspot and enable it, then I restarted the whole process on the camera for the umteenth time connecting to my PCs hotspot and the camera shows up correctly and sends pics. The obvious downside is the range vs a real router, using 2.4ghz helps some. I will try rebooting/updating my router when I can to see if that was the issue but at least that hodgepodge solution works.

Nikon and this wireless technology is disappointing. I was excited! I saw the green for about 30 seconds before my Mac severed the link. Now, I can't seem to reconnect. I selected images to upload, auto-upload, it created the folders, but yet it just won't seem to work. I've only had success with Apple phones (smart device wireless download)--Android Galaxy S22 doesn't like this feature either. Even then it's clunky, and sluggish, at least for the Z7. Seems like such an oversight on Nikon. Thank you for this video though.

Dude, thank you for your will to help Nikon shooters. But, man, you need to learn about communication. You start with lot's of confusing words. Start with what your title is about and what you NEED first. So confusing and ineficient... gone, will find another

There is definitely a tendency for people to think if they can't learn it in a short it isn't worth learning. The problem with that is anyone can teach how, it is understanding that fosters true learning. To understand you need to listen.

Hello Joe. Thank you very much for that information.
    At 6:07 of this video,
the icon at the left side of the wireless network name "ShutterSpeak",
it shows that it is 2.4GHz band.
But at 7:51 of this video,
after paring between the Z 9 and "Wireless Transmitter Utility",
    for the network profile "Z9_WLAN1",
the icon at the lower right corner shows that the profile "Z9_WLAN1" is 5GHz band,
    instead of 2.4GHz band.
    How that comes?
Why it is 2.4GHz band in the 6:07, but becomes to 5GHz band at 7:51?
How to set Nikon Z 8/Z 9 to connect Wi-Fi 5GHz band instead of 2.4GHz band?
    I set my Z 8(I think that Z 8 is almost like the Z 9.)
to connect to Nikon software "Wireless Transmitter Utility"
in the Windows computer. I can sure that both Z 8 and my wireless router has 5GHz band.
But in the "Search for Wi-Fi network" of Z 8(the screen at 5:59 of this video),
it cannot show any SSID of 5GHz band.

Does using this wireless transmitter utility require that the camera and laptop be within range of a wifi router? I'd like to do a photoshoot in a large park that would not have any WiFi hotspot or WiFi router nearby, so could this utility still allow me to monitor my images as I'm shooting with a model in the open space?

Clunky is an understatement. I was hoping for something faster (or at least with less clutter on the camera) than my CamRanger which is pretty easy. Just turn it on and join the network it creates then open and configure the software. I finally got it to work but RAW transfer is sloooooow.

Rather than photos automatically uploading from my Z8 to my computer, is it possible to manually select the photos I want to upload? It appears this program uploads (transfers) all photos on the Z8 and you would not be able to select individual photos. Said another way, I don't want all photos transferrred, I want to select which photos I transfer.

Hello Joe - Thank you for posting this video. Using the wireless transfer utility will be a much better workflow than having a runner/editor download cards during the events I cover.
    Two Questions
For the events that need to be edited live, I use two Z9s and a ZF.
    1) Is the wireless transfer utility able to connect to multiple cameras at once?
The locations that I'm typically working in don't have wifi networks. I'll need to bring my own router.
    2) Can you (or anyone) recommend a good/powerful portable router?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I've never tried two at once but I don't think it should matter. The control comes from the computer so I think it should work fine. as for a router, I would consider this... amzn.to/3vhSV6h
