    Congrats! Ive been on a few sets myself and you are so right! I was the DP on most of them, and let me tell you, one of the other team members was a grip and the sound guy. Very impressive work ethic. And a reminder that just because you can, doesnt mean that you shoud (do everything). He was very efficient. and obviously I couldnt run a camera and hold a boom pole at the same time :) Anyway, enjoy!!

    I've worked on several major sets in the past. I went back to doing my own thing because it becomes to much of a mess with all those people running around. I even Produced big films. Didn't have fun. People change when things get bigger. They lose sight of friendships & forget where they came from.

      Jamie Reason this is a late comment but my advice is, if you can't find projects make a project, gather some friends, have a camera any camera, make a good story and try to make the film, this will be an experience surely, there tho might be mistakes but still you may learn who knows? :)

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому

      Apollo B. To be honest I'm still trying to work that out (I had nothing to do with finding crew for this project). I suppose the best thing you can do is voluteer/work on a bunch of film sets and then ask those people in person. Try and give them reasons why they'd want to be involved with your awesome project rather than just asking them for a favour :)

    And as a last argument for my case of getting a better camera, the photo at 1:50 looks a lot better and more and more cinematic than the next shot of you BTS video, imo due to more resolution and dynamic range...alright I'll stop now I promise :D

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      JohnFelipo haha yeah I was just filming BTS so couldn't setup lights or anything. In uncontrolled environments you're right that it pays to have better gear, but for my main work I always think about lighting, sound etc.

  • @brianmarwa8320

    How did you come in contact with those involved in this project? I have reached out to local photographers and made contacts that way and I am currently working with some now. When it comes to reaching out to entire film crews and film projects though, how would you go about that? Especially when you are not in college for film. You are a huge source of inspiration and knowledge with every upload, Thank You!

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      I'm no expert, on this project they came to me because they saw my youtube channel. I've heard that going to equipment rental houses is good, since they have a continuous supply of film crews. offer to work for free, and it shouldn't be too difficult to find something!

  • @TheTonyEntertainment
    @TheTonyEntertainment 9 років тому

    Hey! I love your videos man! This one was very interesting. I have a question for you. I'm buying a new camera so I just wanted to ask. What's the difference between a Canon t5 and the t5i. And which one should I get? Or should I buy a Nikon D3200 or D3300? As you can see I have a small budget but this will be my first dslr camera.
    Btw, I'm particularly interested in the video aspect of the camera in order to make short films. I hope u can answer. Keep up the good work.

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      I believe the T5 is a camera that hardly shoots video, for not too much extra, you can get a T3i which is almost identical to the T5i but not as expensive. Any of the T_i lineup would be more than enough as a first camera though. For video Nikon isn't the best.

    • @TheTonyEntertainment
      @TheTonyEntertainment 9 років тому

      DSLRguide Thanks man! I already bought the Nikon D5300. I think it was a good option and has good photography features but I don't know about the video. What do u think? Thanks anyway.

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      Okay, that's absolutely fine! What you do with lighting + audio quality is way more important than the quality of the camera itself, so don't worry about it!

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      that really depends. sending them your work is probably more important than a CV, but if you're just volunteering for a basic job then even that isn't essential. Just do lots of asking!

      Is there anything outside stage32 for networking? That might just be the hardest part, finding people to collaborate with. I checked some of the local film clubs but with all do respect, it seemed most clubmembers were retired folks pursuing this hobby (with a bit dated approach to things). Younger folks with lots of ambition, talent and fresh perspectives, used to the age of modern media... I feel that's what 2015 needs. You guys had a nice diverse crew composition. Would be interesting to know how you guys come together like that?
      - Ah, I see you already kind of addressed that in earlier comments. Nvm. Would be nice though if there's a crowdfunding site somewhere, where people don't donate their money, but their time and expertise to come together and work on something.

    @philpygall3020 9 років тому

    Hi,
    I am a subscriber to your channel, think you're really tuned in and very informative, but one thing niggles me. You look pretty young (definitely not a bad thing), and when I go to your actual website and check out your equipment I'm a bit overwhelmed. How on earth do you fund all that? You don't have to answer that, of course. It's just it would take me years to accumulate and save up for most of the stuff you have. I'm guessing your about 19, 20 tops, and you've probably got about £15-20,000 worth of stuff there. For an amateur, or people wanting to get into filmmaking, that's a pretty scary thought.

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide  9 років тому +1

      I think I need to update my site, because although it's called the 'My Gear' section, some of the most expensive equipment (cameras + lenses) are things I recommend but don't own. Over the last four years I have slowly been building up the equipment, it's around £6000 worth. I'm 17, so I don't really have living costs, so pretty much anything I have earned through many jobs and film projects goes towards gear. In regards to the amount of equipment being overwhelming, I made a video about the un-importance of gear which should be encouraging: ua-cam.com/video/iceFuUS-7iQ/v-deo.html
