Every call that isn't a real emergency can mean that help could be delayed for someone who really needs it. I don't want a child to end up dying or with more serious problems because a dispatcher couldn't get on the line quickly enough.
In all fairness, they did tell the dispatcher not to come out...they might have been able to spare an officer, but I do understand that he should know that's only for emergencies. My autistic 7 year old kept finding an old phone with no service to it. He liked the power screen which also happens to be the screen with “emergency call” on it. He would get the phone in emergency mode and hit a button that sounded like sirens. The eventually he would come to that emergency call button. I ended up speaking to dispatch 3 times and had a cop show up knocking on my door once. Boy was that fun to explain “sorry officer, I hide the old device but my autistic son who can’t even speak can somehow find all of my hiding spots and likes the sounds the phone makes in emergency mode 🤦♀️” we finally got a dispatch lady who also had 3 kids and understood if you turn your back for a second they can get into anything. She took mine and my husbands phone numbers that way if they got another call or hang up call they could call us to see if it’s a real call or just Ezra getting that phone again. Bless good dispatchers and first responders. ❤
