I have that parallax adjustment ring issue on a new scope. It's under a 2-year guarantee, so I don't think I'll be the one fixing it, but this video has confirmed my understanding of the problem. And if the supplier sends me a new scope today without asking for my faulty one to be returned I can now work out how to slip the adjustment ring to make the original scope into a serviceable spare. Thanks for the video, it was exactly what I needed today.
My CenterPoint Up / Down turret locked up last night. I watched your video and in fifteen minutes I had it back in working order along with taking the Left / Right adjustment apart and blue LTighting it for good measure. I used a mirror to reset the scope to center, remounted it to my Titan XS, and in about 5 or 6 shots I'm back on target. Great video. I know the CenterPoint 3-9X32 isn't the best scope out there, but I like it, and sure didn't want to spend more than I paid for the rifle for a new scope.
Nice vid. When making the lock ring tool, make darn sure the center of the tool isn't hitting the lense.Once in awhile you have to file/grind a radius into the center to clear lense.
This is an excellent video. Thank you for posting. A scope that I have was not focusing at infinity. Having a history of Russian and Ukrainian camera and lens collection and repair I could repair this problem with a range finder or SLR lens/camera. I was uncertain about using my skills on a rifle scope with which you may be familiar. It is a TAC Tasco Custom Shop 8-40X56 Mil-dot with the A.O. Made in Japan by Hakko. Aside from the parallax issue the scope is perfect. This early model it the A.O. on the Objective Bell has been a favorite of 50 Caliber BMG Barrett bolt and Semi Rifles. I have researched reviews and to verify that bit of "folk lore" and it is absolutely true. I have several scopes that are "big names" expensive and the possessions of many snobs, but this scope has clarity and brightness that outperforms even some of the best. I have yet to find an instruction manual that was there when I bought it...so I learned hands on. Your article gave me exactly what I needed to know to fix this scope and some other info that will cause some scopes with turret problems to be restored from the tombs they now inhabit...know as the Junk Drawer. Thank you so much, I had no idea the solution was so easy, and your explanation is so very clear. I was dreading adjustments to the helical itself after a blind disassembly. I am subscribing.
This is an amazing video. it ranks with some of the best explained ive ever seen on youtube. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share your knowledge .... Dave
Thankyou,,,,,I dissembled my scope as you described. I couldn't get scope to find zero. Impact was 5" left. The rt turret was adjusted to it's limit and I was still way off. Removed turret and found a small hard object under the "E" clip like dried glue. Cleaned out the turret and reassembled. Haven't shot yet but am hopeful! Got more adjustability. Thx
Your the best, could not find anything on how to fix this issue. , The other problem I have is my cross hair moving when I zoom in, I hope you or the UA-cam community can show us how to fix that problem. Thanks a bunch
Your reticle tube may be rubbing against the eyepiece housing. Search for the "air rifle scope graveyard" video, he has a few torn apart to show the inside.
Have a different issue, same scope/same gun. Mine went out of focus/zero with every shot. Bought a UTG airgun rated Pro Hunter. Awesome scope- so cool I put one on my '06.
I love that 3-9x40AO with the German-style mildot! I got it with my Benjamin trail NPXL725. A buddy gave me a couple older Centerpoint's, and this one was among them. So at least I have one more for the Remington 725 VTR when Crosman finally releases it for sale. Thanks for a video showing the simple nuts-n-bolts of repairing these things! I wonder if it's now not being Nitrogen purged will make a lot of difference? Sub'd as well.
It has not made a difference on mine, ymmv. This scope wasn't sealed off really well around the turret to begin with (mechanical seal between the turret cap & center post), though, so it didn't get "worse" after working on it. Minor adjustments to the objective lense shouldn't disrupt the seal, if that is all you're doing. Purging the scope would be a bonus, but not necessary to make it functional again.
So funny, I have the same scope and was looking for general repair videos, only to find the top result is the exact same product I'm trying to fix. I'll give it a shot and see how the results go. Any pointers on cleaning the inside of the lenses?
Nice scope. I just bought a .22 Benjamin Prowler air rifle. The 4x32 scope that came with it... well, it was free. But seriously, it's the same one every low to low-mid point air rifle comes with. I am looking for another scope.
thanks for the video that was really good information maybe if you can fix this cold if you got one that you like you don't have to throw it away I had one that wouldn't dial either and I threw it away I didn't know what to do with it
I have one of those scopes problem is it has no reticle no lines or anything Its basically just a spotter scope now I want to fix it since I bought it for 20 bucks and I want to put it on my rifle it's not a pellet rifle but what's the difference between pellet and 308 I just need something besides iron sights
I just bought a Hawke 3x9-40 AO mil dot reticle for $129 on Amazon and it seems the zoom adjustment dial is rather stiff as is the AO dial on the lense. Even though it’s Hawke’s most budget model comparing it to the UTG 3x9-40 AO I have for about the same price the UTG is MUCH smoother. I noticed a screw on the zoom dial is that something I can back off a little to losses up to tension on the zoom dial?
thanks for the video! it would be beneficial to purge your scope, as much as possible, when you have it apart - argon from a welding supply would probably work well... unless the O-ring you moved wasn't an internal seal? much appreciate the video
Glad you liked it! I had to tighten the lens down on this particular scope, so no seal was disturbed. The turrets are replaceable without affecting the seal (the scope is still sealed as it sits with all the turret parts spread out for inspection).
Appreciation to the professor I have a question if possible I have a scoop rifle that stops working for one operation and is left and right tuned what is the solution with great gratitude
You would have to use a vacuum chamber to refill the nitrogen. Adjusting the parallax shouldn't break the seal, though. You would have to unscrew the lense ring (past where you would for an adjustment).
Hi there. I have a Vortex with parallax adjustment on the side and after two shots i always have to adjust the focus. Is there a way to adjust it on my own or is a customer service necessary? Vortex Diamondback Tactical. Thanks.
If you spend the money to buy a good scope, most of them have a lifetime warranty. If you do take your scope apart how are you going to replace the dry nitrogen that is supposed to be inside it to keep the lenses from fogging?
My first instinct is to have you look up "first focal point vs second focal point". If that isn't what you're referring to, then the reticle tube in your scope has slid back into the eyepiece, and is no longer in the center of the scope. It would likely require you to remove the objective lense so that you can reach in and slide the reticle tube forward into place.
@@TheShredBox Thanks for the response. Is there something that should retain the reticle tube in place? I also got a response on another video that said the spring opposite the reticle adjustments might not be strong enough to hold position. I'm going to do a tear down after your response.
@@TheShredBox Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for that. It's just a Center Point, but it's a discontinued model for my Benjamin with all the features I wanted. Any suggestions for keeping dust out? I will not be putting nitrogen back in it. I'll do it on a low humidity day. ;)
Sounds like a middle man selling a rebranded optic as usual. They have no knowledge of how to repair it so the manufacturer just sends a replacement. Sweet now you have two!
They have more "recoil" but in a different manner than a powder burner because it is a back and forth type.of recoil. The "springer" type air guns knock the guts out of well-made name brand scopes consistently.
Sorry chap but a 'replacement' without the essential features of the failed scope is NOT a replacement. You should have held out for whatever scope had the essential features!
I agree. Holding out would have been fruitless, though, because at least one of those features were no longer produced on any of their scopes, regardless of price.

Blue Lok-tite, the go-to for all professionals, sure glad the quality of the scope was appropriate to the 'Smith.
I put this on a .22 rifle that my girlfriend likes to use. It’s not the highest quality or the most accurate but it’s simple, cheap, and fun to use.

Haha! I guess "gong" IS a bit of a stretch... it's just an old 9" cookie sheet hanging from some threaded rod that I bent to shape. :)
Good job 👍

how about fixing a scope that has the zero moving around?
scope is very accurate but the zero moves after a dozen shots
Maybe the spring that holds the inner tube doesn't have enough tension

At what magnification are you trying to correct the focus/parallax for the 30 feet distance
there use to be a nitrogen gas fill inside, if l have to remove those lens to fix inside so how do l fill it back the gases? please help!!

Nice work man,u rock.
Do you know anything about a Tasco golden antler rifle scope, left and right no longer works
I bought a pinty scope that won’t even move outa the box- elevation windage - never was able to sight in. They would spin but retire wouldn’t move
I only attempt repairs when the warranty is already void/expired. Hopefully you can get resolution from the store or manufacturer first.
I have black squiggly lines in mine
Pls tell turrets screws size
thanks you I fixed my scope.Ur best👍👍
Excellent!
TheShredBox can I send my Optima nitrogen scope to you. All turrets are stuck. Any advice is welcome.
Really nice vid, thanks!
I was hoping you would take the spiral erector out

C clip?

I TURN AND TURN AND NOTHING HAPPENS EHAT AM I DOING WRONG😊
Hope the thing didn't start to fog inside

I take it your lose your fog proofing while performing this repair?
Most likely will on cheaper scopes, but it depends on how it's designed. The upside is that you'll be able to use the scope again.
@@TheShredBox how about purging it with canned air, that shouldn't have any moisture in it.

Как снять окуляр? Уже все перепробывал не получается,боюсь поломать(((
Не было необходимости снимать окуляр для этого ремонта. Некоторые из них плотно прилегают, а другие прикручиваются. Это зависит от объема.

I cant believe a air rifle has that much recoil to mess up a scope. Unless the scope is a real piece of shit I'm guessing the second one
