Or it could be how you're blowing into the mouthpiece; how you shape your mouth over the mouthpiece or if you're biting down on the mouthpiece and reed.

great :D after year of playing stock mouthpiece and a 600€ saxophone, I bought a Meyer metal 7J mouthpiece, and now I am like a professional squeaker ...cannot play altissimo anymore :-D gonna try harder reed, thanks for advices ;)

a number 3 reed is hard to blow on, same with 2.5. i try to recognize the blowing i do, like if it is a lot or barely

Same, but I think it has to do with the reed size because in the beginning of the year, I had size 2 1/2 size reed and It didn't squeak at all. After a few months, my band director told all of the varsity band woodwinds to change to a bigger size reed and he told the saxes change to 3. After I got size 3, I started to squeak a lot more. So I think it has to do with reed sizes. If you're not used to a bigger sized reed, just switch to a smaller size
