- A Carnatic Quartet was the finalé performance on Day 1 of the FEA-curated and presented CUSP festival that was held in Chennai earlier this year.
The group consists of Shreya Devnath on violin, Mylai M Karthikeyan on nadhaswaram, Praveen Sparsh on mridangam and Gummudipoondi R Jeevanandham on thavil.
They concluded their recital with a medley of the popular Muthiah Bhagavathar composition "English Note", followed by a thillana in Ragam Desh composed by Lalgudi Jayaraman and ended with the Bankim Chandra Chatterjee composed National song "Vande Mataram”.
i think Ms. Devnath smiles more often, and with greater charm, thank any carnatic musician i have seen so far, and that's in the hundreds....its nice.
I think you are absolutely wrong! She smiled just once, at the start of the concert, and just kept it on throughout.
I also noticed that she smiles when she successfully pulls out a complicated pattern
Wonderful effort...pls do not be detracted by the adverse comments... it's a wonderful group effort...

A rare combo of violin and nadaswaram. Blended fairly well. By d by I have heard this long ago. Why now depicted as a new edition? Anyways can hear many times. Fine once again!

This is brilliant. Great arrangements with so much new subtlety to well known compositions. Nadaswaram with Violin, what a new find! Excellent talent
All your performances were a real treat to ears, mind and eyes.... Nicely recorded sounds and Wonderful visual presentation with antiques around!! One kind request would be please perform the Pancharathna Mallari in a similar fashion. Its kind of hard to find

அருமை 👌👏👏
Amazing👍🏻😊
Superb...👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
i like their new interpretation of the old English note.....but, I think truly, Mani Iyer is the only one that can make this annoying English note interesting! :-) you know what, it would be even more interesting if someone composed a brand new English note, from, i dont know, Beethovan, Leonard Cohen, whatever....in any case, this is refreshing and well done.
Excellent 👏👏👏
Good effort. Keep it up
Super group combinatation
Loved it
excellent 👍👌👏🏽🙏
Excellent 👌👍👍
Very good performance
300th like!! wonderful!
Good effort
wow. actual credits at the end...its a new day......one day there will even be program notes, as at western classical concerts, telling a bit of something about the various compositions, and the backgrounds of the musicians...slowly slowly...
Fabulous
Amazing
I really enjoyed ❤️
Superb rendering.
Nice effort
Super
I think the volume on the thavil was too low. Hardly heard it.
I'm afraid we had a set of technical problems with the sound at this concert. Things didn't turn out as planned and we are disappointed too.
Thavil is kind of outdoor instrument. Macho. Asura vadhyam. It's brilliance is in that brute strength of the drumbeat. You gag it you lose the brilliance. May be he should have played outdoors in full blast and its handled in post production
It was perfect. Something must be wrong at your end.
👍
The English note has been tried already in one of the Tamil movies starred by Shri Shivaji Ganesan..splendid..
Also in a Kamalahasan movie. Vasool Rajah, was that...?
But the English note is kind of gènre in Carnatic music. No one does anything beyond this one single piece. Since decades. That's a shame.

Dear Team...Excellent...short of words to appreciate...keep going....please share your email id..shall be in touch.. kind regards Ravi Family, Dubai...
Feel more practice will make the listening more soothful.
Each was individually good. Together, when they tried harmony, sounded a bit weird at places.
Exactly

Thavil and nadaswaram are heavy metal equivalent in Carnatic. They got to be belting full blast. And there's no other way. They have asked Stadium Cricket players to hit Sixers indoors and this is what you would get...!🤭
shaadhu shaadhu!!!
The violinist struck the instrument in her neck look something dangerous because this may obstructing her blood vessels over there in neck...
Is this your first time watching someone play the violin? Violin in the neck is NOT rare. It is a standard place to put it for much of the world's traditions. Do some research. God bless you.
Rsma, unfortunately this is our style from the time british introduced this instrument to us. I should blame legend choudaya for that.
Very talented performers. And was an interesting experiment, but I just don’t think it sounds very nice.
Jagadamba sharadar pana masturbation, Super instrumental music
What?
Very sorry, to be frank not admirable.
For God sake please don't repeat in the middle the English music while
Playing carnatic music.
What do you mean English music? The Englis note was composed by Harikeshanallur Mutthiah Bhagavathar.
Infact even Muthiswami Dikshitar of the trinity had composed Nottuswarans in the tune of English music like God save the queen.

@@savanthkumarnaidutrichinap1914 but this IS Indian music. no one in England plays this tune like this, Bhagavathar has transformed this incredibly annoying British tune into an incredibly annoying carnatic one! usually this is played at the end, god i hope it was not in the middle of the concert...
@@savanthkumarnaidutrichinap1914 not true. I like all kinds of music. Carnatic as well as western classical, and genres like Rock and Hip-hop. You just need to appreciate it to understand and relate.
