Matt Williams' hate for South Africa impacts his objectivity! His in-ability, due to hate, to understand the loss of Malcom Marx and how it impacted South Africa in the loss to Ireland relates in his commentary as it clearly shows his in-ability to understand the impact of the loss of Antoine Dupont on the French team - not to say the French won't win but loosing a player of the caliber will impact the best team in the world.
I have news for Matt Williams. Yes, the French have an excellent side. Make no mistake. Our Matt has not factored in one fact. What happens to the Boks...when their backs are against a wall. In a World Cup.

Irish fans aren't taking the Scotland game for granted (neither are the team) and any talk of nz is just a hypothetical "who would you prefer, nz or france" like there are with all the permutations for qf, sf and final for all teams. But stay hating and generalising if you want. We're taking every step at a time here. Also, for years all the top teams, mainly southern hemisphere, were allowed to plot their progression to the final but how dare Ireland, we're only nr1 in the world having beaten every other team in the top 5, 6 or 7 in the last year. I just love the calm and realistic approach of our couching staff across the board, taking it one match at a time and also the fact that they spoke on how they have envisaged different scenarios and prepared for such. French fan here...I am not that optimistic on our chance against SA. Especially if Dupont is not fit for it. We have a team full of talent but I don't think we are as a "tight" unit as Ireland. We badly need Dupont on the 1/4 for sure
No we don't watch the game in Marseille again. If anything the loss of Dupont should galvanize the team against Italy. Galthie must give Lucu and Couilloud some game time against Italy, it will be crucial.

We are up and down like a yo yo but if we get it right we will give any team a good nudge. In saying that, if we are to make it to the quarters ireland will rightfully be favorites. Jaminet is actually the back-up kicker for France, not Jalibert. Also to note: Lucu plays with Jalibert at Bordeaux, so the 9-10 connection will be strong. Might not make up for the loss of Dupont but still....

It’s just sport, which obviously a guy like Matt fails to recognise. On the day anything can happen between 3 or 4 sides in this tournament that are so close together that you can only really separate them by small margins in often opposing departments. While there are another 2 or 3 teams who could easily cause an upset on the day and have the history and pedigree to back that possibility up. We all love rugby. Social media just perpetuates vitriol and Matt Williams is the bate.

We have heard so much about ireland beating us in the series down here and we have the opportunity to boot hot to trot ireland our in the quarters! and stop their games on the trot record from getting past the abs record. Dupont and Ntamack play together at Toulouse every week. The fact both are out is a monumental loss for the French. There is no greater game changer than the Dupont effect.

France will be a pretty tough ask, with or without Dupont, I agree. The Irish should start praying that the Boks do them a favour and beat France in the QF, since France in a final at home will be almost impossible to beat.
Appreciate this is just fun for the pundits and was pre-qualified heavily before this segment (Scotland will be a massive task and not to be taken lightly was the theme) but waaayyy too much rugby to play and teams starting to show some serious form on both sides of the draw (Wales sensational & England improving quickly to start). All 4 of those quarters are too close to call. France v SA would be a fitting final for a start.

@@damianbylightning6823 I’m Irish and don’t know any genuine Rugby fans who have disrespected the chances of any of the other teams. Pundits are there to have their opinions but not representative of the Rugby community in Ireland and tbf that’s been my experience with most countries. The game teaches many lessons, usually humility and respect are close to the top of the list.
@@SearchforScratch There has been a lot of condescension toward England and Wales. They were often mocked and written off, before a ball was kicked. It is quite possible both these teams will go deeper into the WC than Ireland, which would be embarrassing. In the run-up to the WC, the attitude to Wales has been particularly disrespectful - in the last four Six Nations, it's 50/50 - some people have short memories. It has always been clear to me that all England needed to do was get their ducks in a proverbial and build confidence. Tbf, I am expecting Fiji to beat an undercooked England, but only a fool would rule out both Eng and Wal getting a semi.

Would Reiterate that this panel is not representative of the Rugby fan in Ireland- in the same way other media sources are not in other countries. They are paid to have opinions…take from them what you will, and I will do the same. For my money Wales and England have a great chance to reach a semi final and meet a bartered couple of teams coming from our side of the draw. Scotland remain a mighty dangerous proposition to our chances on the 7th and we know it.

As far as I'm concerned, it blew up in our faces anyway as we could not bring on backline alternatives when the Ireland backline ran us ragged. Not to mention that their forwards did not back down an inch, except for some gremlins in the line out at the start of the game.
The 7-1 bench is a risk, as could be clearly seen in this great match.
I'm not a great Ireland fan, but the display they put out there on Saturday night was absolutely awesome.
@johanweakley2658 the 7/1 worked just fine, the string of 2nd half penalties we got was mostly because of the fresh forwards we brought on and the pressure they applied, the issue was converting that into points
@@nicobr00 the issue of not converting opportunities into points was a problem but the kicking was only a part of it. Our midfield was exposed on attack and defense, and we had no one on the bench to change the rhythm. But I don't want to be harsh, it was one hell of match, a real advertisement for the game.

As a South African full respect to France but Ireland are the only team who have shown a capacity to match our physicality and if you can't match our physicality you can't beat us only Ireland and New Zealand have been exempt to this law of Bokke rugby. The AB's have a higher chance of losing to Ireland than losing to us on any day of the week they play like their nation's survival depends on it whenever we're against them and we do too so I'd definitely rather play France.
And if everything goes according to plan we'll be seeing the high kings warriors in the final.
Between France and Ireland, France has the superior forward pack, and yes, I'm South African. I would have preffered not to play against France. But with the recent loss of Dupont, I guess I would rather have my team face them in the QF than in the final. I believe they will beat Ireland if they had to meet in the QF, with or without Dupond. IMO France is still the team to beat.

i think the winner of QF2 will win the tournament. if ireland get through that they break the qf mental block and the semi is a slaughter and will be too strong in final. if nz win that quarter then their game will be good enough to beat anyone

its such a coin toss. Ireland vs the Sprinboks could easily have gone the way of the boks. That game was as even as they come. Only difference is that Sexton never missed his kicks. Ireland vs the All Blacks is a coin toss and NZ will be wanting revenge badly. Bokke vs France is also a coin toss and Du Pont is a massive blow. I reckon both games will be extremely tight and is in the hands of the gods. It will either be a Southern Hemisphere final or a Northern Hemisphere one. It seems like fate is with the North and world Rugby probably needs either France or Ireland to lift the trophy. Awful only mentioned two quarter finals. As a welsh fan I worry about the quarter final against the Pumas, but I would fancy a semi against Ireland. The problem is I can the All Black will just roll over Ireland by any score you want.

Number 9 is the one position where les bleus never lacked quality. Couilloud is electric, a real athlete, Lucu is swift in the old mode. Regardless the pack will have to set the platform for them. This is the game where we will see whether Giroud, France' Performance Coach is an absolute master or an absolute disaster. So far, we had to lament way too many injuries for my liking but if les bleus hit their peak of form then all this might be worth the wait.

Im sorry but to say France will "easily" take South Africa, is stupid. SA lose a lot with the MM injury, but France have been decimated with du Pont, Ntamack, Willemse and Marchand gone. The disrespect here is mind boggling. Matt Williams is a better coach than pundit, and that's saying a lot considering how shit he was with Scotland.
On the contrary, he does bring up valid points as France certainly have players that can handle the physical nature the Springboks bring. They're the only team in the NH that can. They used that efficiently when they won the Grand Slam in '22. And there's no confirmation Dupont is out. He can still come back. Plus, not to mention he hit a proper nail on the head in that the Boks badly need an unfit and slightly injured Pollard or else they're goosed with the goal kicking, as was proved against Ireland, but France have that luxury of having more than one established goal kicker in the squad.

Thank you for sharing your insights. After engaging a number of Bok supporters, the general consensus is that we’ll rather face France in a qtr final than the ABs.
That said, South Africa wear the underdogs tag better than most. With the focus of the rugby world on France, we’ll have the luxury of preparing in relative quite.
As we enter the knockout stages of the competition attrition becomes more significant. All teams have lost key players in key positions. The team which manages disruptions the best will have a slight advantage.
The partisan French crowd may also have an influence but it goes both ways. Any visiting side knows that if you take the crowd out of the game in the first 20-25 mins (as SA did to Ireland) then the effect of the crowd is somewhat neutralised, they’ve even been known to turn on their fellow countrymen in the past

South-Africa/ Springboks is a great team with skyhigh standards. They have the potential to go to the finals!. The only problem that South-Africa have is that they do not have a great kicker that can kick accurate to the poles. This is a serious problem!. If South-Africa had a kicker like the old Springboks, Percy Montgomery, Frans Steyn , Naas Botha or Jannie de Beer, the Springboks will definitely win the worldcup without a doubt. As a big Springbok fan, my gut feeling tell me that the 4 countries that will made it is between South-Africa, Ireland, Scotland and New Zealand. The country with the least penelties will win the worldcup. As a Springbok fan i hope South-Africa win the worldcup. It will be great for us. We will then be the only country in the world that wins the Ellis Webb trophy 4 times!. If the Springboks sort the kicking out, they will win the worldcup. If not, then South-Africa will take 2de or definitely 3d place. Then i believe Ierland will take the worldcup (1l), second South-Africa, 3rd France and fourth New Zealand. Lets see what will happened!
These pundits are pretty one dimensional in their assessment. Basically best team wins in each match. What they aren't considering is whoever comes out of the two 'tougher' quarters will be playing a way fresher outfit (likely England and Wales) which brings its own challenges...can't see Ire/France (if it is those two) coming out of their QFs unscathed

Proud Springbok supporter and hats off to Ireland for winning an epic battle - Rassie however is extremely calculating and the fact that he went for posts, difficult ones by the way, instead of lineouts to set the driving mauls which the Springboks is excellent at solidifies my theory that the Springboks prefers to strategically play France, who does not fare well as host and winning than to play a wounded All Blacks. This lost might also prove favourable to Ireland who should beat the All Blacks instead of France - The Springboks route to the final is more beneficial with these current standings - South Africa has always played better as underdogs instead of the favourites. How come everybody forgot that France beat South Africa in Marseille in November 2022 having lost both DUPONT (red card) and DANTY (broken eye socket)... It won't be a walk in the park for sure without Dupont-Ntamack granted I can guarantee Dupont will start in this game. He won't want to miss that. Dupont has been cleared of the commotion already, that's one good news, but I would be surprised he stays out of the 1/4. If he does however Lucu and Couilloud will take their responsibility like they did in Marseille. My only regret is that Couilloud is probably the closest profile to Dupont so in my view, it would be better to start him, Italy will probably give Galthie an indication of who should be starting at 9. The only reason why you would start with Lucu is that he and Jalibert are club partners. My main issue with Lucu is his profile. Lucu is an old style of scrum-half a la Yachvili-Parra so he is top class but he is not a modern scrum-half who attacks the line and speed up the ball from rucks. Couilloud is the speedster you want I think. Lucu is great when you're already ahead but either are very capable regardless of order.
