@xguilbert, just as the blind ben o'keef, very decisively made the wrong decision at the end, denying any tmo review, to give france a scrum possession when the france player was clearly offside and blocked the pass from faf out the ruck. ben o'keef was a completely trash ref in all regards. you cannot blame their loss on that one bad decision when there have been many other outrageous and downright terrible decisions against both teams throughout the entirety of the game.

With 9min left, France had their opportunity but took the 3. With that mindset, I knew SA got them.
South Africa also got insanely lucky with the first 2 tries. Not to mention Kolbe's charge down of Ramos' conversion attempt.
Ireland v New Zealand was a much better game... France kept south Africa in it with silly mistakes and very soft scores

As a very proud Bok supporter, I say that nothing is inevitable. We will have to do a lot more than just "show up" at the semi final, it is a knock out game, we will have to be at our best again to win.

Things I never see in a rugby match but saw today:
Charged down conversion kick.
Penalty to touch landing behind where it was kicked from.
Scrum called from a mark.
Drop-goal attempt from the base of a ruck.
Probably more weird things happened in this match besides what i can remember above, and that's not getting into the standard of play! What a crazy crazy crazy match. Absolute treat to watch as a depressed Irish fan.
It was a movie wasn't it? All those 4 things you mentioned had me astounded.

I would add a doubtful tap who could (should ?) have resulted in a penalty try and yellow card for big Eben, but not asked to be checked by the TMO. Congrautlations to the referee, what was he doing ?

Watching Kolbe's was like witnessing a literal sprinbok run across the field.

A lot has been said about the draw, BUT it has produced the best rugby EVER in a rugby world cup. Amazing performances by incredible teams. Kudos to all of them
For all the bleating from Scotland and Ireland about the draw, just remember, we were in the same pool.
But now we can't get to see two epic encounters on finals weekend, an Ireland vs France bronze game and a very likely final of South Africa vs NZ , bit of a shame still it's been a great world cup to watch.Yeah been some great rugby played and not just by the bigger rugby nations.

After watching rugby ardently since 2011 I have to say this is the best match I’ve ever watched… it had everything, the drama, the quality, the controversy, the emotion , EVERYTHING. And at the end My Bokke came out best. Couldn’t have scripted it any better , and well done to France on an incredible campaign they can be very proud of
This World cup has produced some of the greatest test matches i have ever seen, Ireland vs SA, Irelans vs NZ and then this one somehow was even better
Have to say I’ve been enjoying South Africa’s variety/enervation lately: 7-1 split, scrum off a mark, tap for penalty, drop goal attempts form the ruck, changing between a kicking game and free flowing running rugby.

Ireland are a very good team... They just need to get a few more tools in their locker.. Springboks and All Blacks(surprisingly) showed more endurance

Irish are a great team, but do tell us HOW on earth do you let NZ win in your backyard up North? Ireland did not pitch up for the ABs and once again the choking began. Ireland had the talent but it lacks the heart, that killer instinct... I am not so sure you can coach this
@@RicksPhatPharm-vw2lb It was a close game and had Murray not conceded that penalty to make 28 points to the AB's Ireland despite not being at their best could've won it with a penalty or drop goal at the end, and lets not forget they beat the AB's last summer in a 3 test tour in their back yard after losing the opening game.
What's interesting now is how Ireland progress as some key players will be retiring. I didn't have a dog in the fight, I'm English, but it was a great close game and I bet a few AB fans had some nerves at the end.

Seriously this game (& NZ v Ire) was/were next level stuff. I feel privileged to have watched them both. It will take something truly insane for it not to be an NZ v SA final. It's so rare to see a game when literally every player was on point both mentally & physically. Marginal decision making was the only difference such as SA going for a tap & go set move leading to the Etzebeth try & then France opting for 3 points in a similar situation soon after. The intensity & discipline under pressure were a sight to behold. Great stuff, and what a RWC it has been thus far.
I've been waiting the entire world cup for Argentina to put up a quality effort they're able to, hopefully doesn't happen in the semis and trip up NZ.

From South Africa here - what a game. My heart was racing the whole time. I think we made silly mistakes, lack of discipline, but I think we did really well especially with the added pressure from the French crowd.
Definitely needed a drink after that one. What a brilliant game of rugby. Hopefully we can make it through to the finals
I'm English mate, you don't need hope, just turn up, I'm hoping we don't get a battering and at least try to keep it close. The final is AB's vs SA unless the rugby gods have a sick sense of humour.
I watched this in a bar in Florida with about 400 other South Africans. Probably the most I’ve stressed and the loudest I’ve ever screamed. Hot damn what a match.
Almost certainly the best QF games in the WC. Every one was a tight, contested and skillful game. All four of them. But this was at another level
Crazy weekend of ruggers! Argentina with a very good game against Wales. Followed by probably the best QF game in RWC history (for 24 hours at least) with the NZ Ireland game. Fiji with a brave fight back against England but ultimately not enough and then finish the weekend with one of the most insane back and forth, game of two halves that there has ever been.
Let's hope the semis and final can be as competitive and exciting. 👍

I can't find loads of pleasure in a team as good as the French leaving so early in the tournament.

I thought that the French Rugby Federation wanted the draw really early so fans could book their tickets and sort accommodation. I thought it was t World Rugby but I could be very wrong.

Amazing game to watch! Power plays, power defence! SpringBoks bench was crucial to this win. Sorry SpringBoks has no Bench players at all, there are all starters and to me there was the difference that decided this big battle. Congrats to the Sprinboks from an Argentinian! There were a few bok players that played their socks off, but for me Jesse Kriel was MoM comfortably. Made multiple last ditch tackles and reads, plus that grubber as the cherry on top..felt like i was saying KRIEL! out loud more than any other name. And thats coming from a Kriel-detractor

The game was on here in SA at 9PM which was pretty late, else I would have done the braai thing. What an incredible game of rugby. All the games in these quarterfinals had drama, passion and heartache. Hats off to the French - they brought an incredible game
Haha I’m living in Singapore and so had to set my alarm for 3am and take another two pints from the fridge. Well worth the sleep loss haha
Devastated really. I'm trying to scroll scenarios in my head of where it went wrong. Several places really. I think we - the French - offered too many counter attack opportunities and lost our nerves when it mattered. French social media is lambasting the ref but we just made too many mistakes against a fantastic side. I don't remember SA playing so well. So yeah, it hurts because this was our best ever side by some distance and the French federation had gone to extreme financial length to make things happen. In the end, it's a case of never the bride, once more. We get respect and admiration all over the world for our French flair but without the killer instinct, it's not good enough. This going to take some deep soul searching for me and possibly many French fans.

I don't think anyone can realistically accuse Ireland of choking last night. But for me, France, or at least some of their players, will feel like they choked. Woki and Ramos definitely were way, way below the standard they'd set over the last year. But kudos to the Boks' scramble defence. So many line breaks but they just kept getting to the ball first regardless. I just hope they go and marmalise England. That might make me feel a bit better, Thanks again for the quick write up Mark!

I realistically accuse Ireland of choking last night because that's what happened, worst performance of their world cup.
Ireland are choke artists, the entire North has this problem though when playing southern hemisphere teams. We are still miles apart and what makes it worse is that the standard of SH rugby had dropped since SA left to play up North and yet we have 3/4 teams in the semis 😂 again
@@CamcolitoI wouldn’t necessarily say choked because we did improve throughout the game and it was tight for most of it, but the familiar problem came where we struggled at the beginning and the problems kept coming for 25 minutes. You cannot do that in a quarter final, period. We played 55 minutes of good rugby when we needed a full 80.

Damn I love my team, my country, and my people, 🇿🇦. We had no right to win that game the French were superb. Kolbe!!!, Jesus Christ Kolbe!!! He was my "player of the match". His runs from deep gave us a lift every single time, the commitment for the charge down on Ramos. Kolbe was so switched tonight. I can't even think..... so many players stood up, Kwagga, Eben, Jesse. For the French Peato Mauvaka and Uini Atonio were incredible tonight, I was thanking the Gods when they taken off. I guess the biggest difference between the two sides was the quality off the bench.

That was a titanic struggle. As a South African I feel exhausted and I was just watching it casually.... France did very, very well and it was a mighty contest worthy of a final.

I'm sad for France and happy for the Boks... Very strange feeling. Now, my only wish is to see the Boks triumphant at the end!
Well he started running Before Ramos moved but bokkies were more realistic anyway I guess my team was a bit naive tonite. We French felt like there were more respect from bokkies than we are used to. Good luck for next game

Definitely one of the best games in this tournament, really happy for the Boks. It’s a shame to see the hosts go out in the quarterfinals that could have been a finals game, it was so exciting. I do wonder though if Rassie was being a bit creative with the use of the HIA rules? Players seemed to almost rotate on and off changing positions after rests? Still happy with the result- would love to see a Boks vs ABs final.
I don't think they have control over that. I think it may rather have messed with how and when they planned to bring on their substitutions. They had to adapt and it worked out.
You can see Mostert was perplexed but Etsebeth's yellow changed that aspect. Initially it seemed as if Kwagga and Vermeulen were confused as to who was at the back of the scrum.
It seemed a bit befuddled but the Boks adapted.

I only discovered your channel over this long haul world cup and must say, love listening in to your analysis of Rugby. Recently become obsessed with Rugby, always loved the sport but this world cup activated a deep love of the game. Especially supporting Ireland in victory or defeat. I'm a new fan of your review post games.

This game was massive! I felt like I couldn't breathe at the end! France showed why they are so dangerous! They made massive metres under immense pressure from the Springboks. An absolute slugfest. Dupont is such a special player. He had a hand in all the dangerous French moments. What a player! In the end it came down to the defensive pressure of the Boks. They had a huge performance and gave as much as they got and in a game of inches they came out ahead. Some great tries from the Boks! Kriel, Kolbe, Etzebeth and Malherbe were immense! Cheslin Kolbe...bloody hell. He was the MVP of the game for me. Commiserations France. You boys played one hell of a game! Well done, Bokke!

If I'm South African I'm happy of what I got today 🥳: couple high balls flipping on our side during 1st half and we're there at the scoreboard whereas France was less fortunate. Kolbie intercepting a conversion on a very debatable situation (watch the wide angle provided after the game). A yellow card against Etzebeth that could have become red remaining yellow. Couple more elbows to the face that we won't bother looking at, including on Dupont. Our players falling in the french side of the ruck when they can't compete anymore to slow down the pace. Sequences where the ref he's gonna tell us "release", "get away", "nooooo" 3-4 phases in a row, without penalty. Impossible for France to play their game. And finally we've done a bulldozer once we got possession in the french 10 meters to score a try and win by 1 point. Perfect night.

If we didn't have a quota for a captain it a 6 we could field fetchers, but this being South Africa, if the team is not black faced then everyone cries foul. Imagine fielding our best 23 what kind of records we could smash and how we could widen the gap, sadly SA stuck with a quota captain

Rugby's a funny game. At any moment there are probably about three infractions the ref could punish. Most he lets slide because, if he didn't, the game would be an unwatchable mess. This means that any losing side can blame the ref for calls that didn't go their way (just ask Rassie). This is especially true in such a close game, where any bit of luck, good or bad, would have swayed things. But, I think, in this match the number of calls that could have gone the other way was fairly balanced - whether you're South African or French or French pretending you're South African.
In any event, I'm sorry France is out. They deserve to be in the semis and the tournament is poorer without them.

What a GAME! Rugby was certainly the winner here. Gees, my nerves are finished! Well done Bokka. Well done to the French as well, they thoroughly entertained the world and gave us all a great game to remember. The first half - was some of the finest rugby I can recall. Duane coming back from the hia was huge as well, bongi was getting a bit wild when chatting to ben, the team looked flustered, having pollard and Duane on brought some calm and we managed to execute from there. OX may the best scrummager in the world by the way, he changed the momentum
The french can keep they heads high they are great hosts and they kept us honest, it could have gone anyway, feel so sorry for them in there WC, but happy we got job done
