Of course they failed, come on.. I mean a middle aged man succeeding over a bad-ass girl-boss???? what foolishness you speak. lol. No but seriously I even to this day cannot abide how massive these writers disrespected the lore of Avatar. It's very paradoxical to be(and for me) because I really do think this show is very good and well written; BUT Korra herself is NOT. the ONLY character written with less intelligence is Unaloq. Everyone else is cleverly written. But Korra "just suddenly Airbending" is the worse written plot armor McGuffin EVER. she doesn't practice except for like once or twice, she never even so much as TRIES to embrace her spiritual side, it JUST COMES to her in a moment of utter desperation. Airbending doesn't work like that. It's NOT a Card from a Yugi-Oh deck that just shows up when that's the specific EXACT card you need. Aibending is something one has to LEARN. In fact ALL bending NEEDS to be learned; otherwise you'll just end up accidentally burning Katara. The fact that she CAN just Airbend without effort AND use it to "fight" like a Firebender???? PURE BULLSHIT.
@@patrickcromwell7554 "the ONLY character written with less intelligence is Unaloq." -> It's called a character arc: Korra season 1 is still immature, but that changes over the course of the next seasons. But I'm sure you're totally ok with season 1 Zuko "written with less intelligence". "But Korra "just suddenly Airbending" is the worse written plot armor McGuffin EVER" -> Aang even explained it at the end of the episode: when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change. But I'm sure you're totally ok with Aang suddenly rockbending at the end of the "Bitter Work" episode, when he had finally the right mindset for it. The usual double standards by a certain type of guys... 🙄
One of the darkest things in the Avatar universe after the murder suicide is Korra looking over that cliff. She is obviously thinking of ending it and letting the cycle begin again.
"Obvious?" Nah. I read it as more of an "alone" feeling. Noone can understand what she's going through. Staring into a vast empty ocean view. Like stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. Nope rescue in sight. When she's suddenly joined by someone who *can* inherently understand her.
my headcannon will always be korra went to that cliffside because she was contemplating deleting herself to allow a new avatar with access to all elements to be born. she defined herself almost exclusively by her status as the avatar and without being able to bend 3 of the 4 elements she was never going to be the avatar she should have been.
I love how you said that it was your headcanon. While I do like the theory, people tend to write it as if it's a confirmed fact that she was contemplating suicide.
@krazytreRTM yes, it was confirmed by the writers that she was contemplating to jump off the cliff. Nickledeon didn't want them to show it more explicitly as it was a kids show
Tarrlok killing Amon without the latter knowing is just like the ending of Of Mice and Men, where George gives Lenny an instant death so he'll die happy.
Uh, Of Mice and Men spoiler warning. Just kidding. I somehow managed to not get assigned that book in high school or college. But just through cultural osmosis, I think it takes place during the Depression, that Lenny is a gentle, loving giant of a guy (like Hodor), but also like Hodor seems a bit slow, and that he accidentally kills a woman or child? His best friend George knows he will be executed (and probably tortured by unfeeling prison guards because of his slowness) so he gives him a quick, painless death. Did Lenny also have mice friends? (Like Fowers For Algenon, or Ben/Willard without the horror elements?). I think the book and movie Of Mice and Men was so popular in its era, Warner Brothers even did cartoon parodies of the characters (as mice) in its cartoons.
I think it's the opposite, Amon/Noatak was the mos powerful bloodbender who ever lived. His control was so precise he could bloodbend himself to resist Tarrlok. It's not a stretch to assume he could sense his brother moving, and that's what made him shed a tear right before the explosion.
@@vetarlittorf1807 Why else would he be sad to the point of crying then? He knew damn well it was never gonna be "like the good old days" after what he did to Tarrlok
@@pabloc8808 He wasn't sad, he was sentimental and nostalgic. Do you even realize how lazy it is to depict a character enthusiastic about a new life and then suddenly take a 180 and be okay with dying? Your theory has nothing to support it.
Not sure if someone has mentioned this yet but the reason is such a complete story is bc the writers were only granted 1 season originally but bc it did so well they gave them 1 more season. So they had to now think of something else for season 2 and then be done. AND THEN they were like haha jk give us 2 more seasons! Lol so lots of people don't like season 2 bc its an awkward fit but everyone LOVES seasons 3 and 4 bc they have a much better flow and pacing! Personally I love season 2 for so many reasons XD I'm excited to watch yall get through it! (It's currently 2am and I've been binging all of this series haha)
Actually I think they had a plan for season 2 that we see in the beginning of season 4. But at the time they knew they got a 2nd season this seasonfinal was already made.
@@MusikCassette I mean I think when they got granted the second season they may have thought let's think of some vague ideas just in case, but I also think it was there way of bringing it all back to make it more cohesive, bc it was done a bit awkwardly added in last minute you know? But I do think you are right they probably did have some vague plan incase they got more but still had to make sure season 2 completed at the end like the first
@@MusikCassette no they were granted s2. its why the writers were different in s2. and then they had to make s2 finale very finale like. until they got greenlit again
@@itsjustvin7630 No what? I said season 2 was granted after the final for season1 was finished. I am not sure if it did even air at that point in time. Did I get that part wrong? So the story arc we see in the beginning of season 4 could not happen in season 2.
@@MusikCassette huh? No s1 and s2 were ment to be finales but nick keeps pulling their John's adding more seasons. S3 and s4 at least was tied together organically
Korra's suicide attempt was looked over but you can plainly see that her feeling defeated brought Aang to her aid. It was brilliant! I knew if you too gave it a chance, you'll grow to love her as we did. Again, you three have always been my favorite reactors because of how you express your comments and criticism.
@@norberto6005standing at the edge of the cliff, the tear drop is supposed to symbolize tht she was thinking it over. It's confirmed by the writer's but of course Nickelodeon isn't gonna really make it to obvious
@@NamiTheAlpha ummm what do U mean Nickelodeon not gonna make it obvious 😀🤣 Tarlaq just killed both of themselves minutes ago in the episode 🤣 not gonna make it obvious my ass 🤣.. @@norberto6005 Dude. We literally get to see her tear drop like a 100 ft fall from her POV and then Aang said she had hit her lowest point. Plus, this whole season she has derived her self-worth solely from her position as the Avatar. Without it, she had no will to live. It could not have been clearer without shoving it in your face. Also, wdym "how could she die"? You don't survive a fall that high. Not to mention the ocean is so cold you'd fall into a cardiac arrest if you're suddenly exposed to it.

We saw water benders swim in Cold water many times like no tomorrow.. obviously they are use to it since they live there.. a normal person can survive 100ft fall and Korra was a fukin soldier basically trained from birth in the same place.. probably she was jumping from that cliff when she was young.. if she wanted to kill herself she wouldn't brought Naga with herself... U guys just read too much into it.. they literally just showed Tarlaq kill both of them.. soo they weren't afraid to show it... Yes she hit the lowest.. do U know how many times I were low in my life? Didn't mean I wanted to kill myself.. just was crying uncontrollably next to a train track 🤣🤣🤣 doesn't mean shit..
This show has a lot of flaws that can't be ignored, but I'll admit that I always tear up at that final scene where Korra gives Lin her bending back, and the music swells as she lifts those rocks. It's just so delightfully human and gratifying, especially because you finally get to see why Tenzin thought Lin and Korra were more alike than they realize. They both define themselves first and foremost by their bending, and for them to finally bond over the loss and return of their bending is something truly special.
Tears. Always tears. Korra finally seeing Aang and unlocking the Avatar state, the kiss between Korra and Mako, and then the restoration of Lin's powers. The combination of it all just makes me cry! Your reactions always make my day! 💛
If you ever feel like the finale is rushed (she gets airbending, the avatar state, her bending back, Mako etc) remember it was originally planned to only have one season
My head cannon about her personality is that its a way to make up for her past life, Ang ran away from his duties while korra couldn't wait to be tge avatar. Kuruk the water bender was a go with flow and laid back avatar then kyoshi after him was a strict disciplinarian who ruled with an iron fist, roku then comes along and wasn't as strict which you can say lead to the war. Then ang comes along runs from his duties because his previous life felt like he failed the world
I like this theory. The next avatar has the tools to achieve what the previous struggled with, but the changing world may mean that a different approach is needed!
@@vetarlittorf1807 We're talking about a guy who can sense the blood in people's bodies even when he can't see them. Amon could have stopped Taarlock at any moment. @@vetarlittorf1807He could sense Tarrlok and what he was about to do. He just let him do it because he realized there was no place in the world for them anymore.
“When we hit our lowest points we are open to the greatest change.” - Aang the 🐐 avatar. Alot of people said Korra was going to commit suicide because of her losing her powers but was too scared which was really sad because she was just dealing with alot however Aang came in clutch. Also yall think shit crazy it gets crazier in szns 2, 3 & 4 the Spirit realm, the Red Lotus & Kuvira plus the random yet nice ending lol yall gonna like this.
I like that head Canon because aang says Korea is at her lowest point, and the avatar state he unlocked is a survival mechanism. My theory is that she unlocked the avatar state because it tried to protect her from herself at that moment in time
Girls you might see some comments about Korra SUICID3 moment but don't believe them. They just read a theory and blind themselves and want to blind others. Some of them might said it was confirmed but The writers never said that, that was a theory created by fans. And is a poor theory too because: 1-That cliff was shown in ep1 and is the place where Korra goes when she is upset or mad, that's her "safe place". 2- That's not Korra, we know in real life we can't know what people are dealing with and how they do it, but this is a show, and you can know the character completely, Korra would never kill herself and let everyone alone on their own. 3- If the theory was true then she wouldn't take Naga with her, how are you going to "unalive" yourself and take your best friend to watch it? I REALLY pay attention to the details because I love this show, and because of it I know what that Place meant to Korra 🖤. That was just a vulnerable moment and that theory doesn't even make sense.
“IM THE AVATAR YOU BETTER DEAL WITH IT” “Im not the avatar anymore you dont need to do me any favors” 😭 I fucking love Korra. Her whole identity is being the Avatar. The writers knew being the new avatar would be jarring since we all love Aang. I just love their decision to embrace the struggle of a new avatar by balancing Korras effort and birthright.
I will say it again. Korra going near that cliff(so close to the edge that her tear falls down in the water), she is thinking about suicide. But being a kid show, they didn't do it. She knew that the world would need a 4 element bending avatar, not just a airbender. One of the most sad moments of the show.
I always loved how epic this finale was because the creators weren't entirely sure at the time that they were gunna get a S2 and beyond. So they treated like a "series finale-ish" ending. Excited for you guys to see the next season 😊😊
Pretty sure Amon killed Lieutenant by closing his hand when holding him in a blood bending grip. Actually even cofirmed that by saying "You served me well Lieutenant".
“When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.” One of my favorite lines in the avatar universe, one which could be applied to multiple episodes. At his lowest point Sokka truly humbled himself to learn the ways of the sword. Toph was so desperate to escape she bent metal which defied all preconceived feats of earth bending. And katara, out of pure fear and desperation just as aang and sokka are about to collide she accepted the only thing that she could to save them, blood bending. There are many more examples but this post is long enough lol.
If I remember correctly they were planning to end the show after season 1 and then a few more times after too so that’s why a lot of the season finales feel like it’s the end of the show
Arianna's reaction to Naga busting them out was priceless. lol. It's almost like she forgot that Naga is actually a BEAR. Sure she's a dog too (and acts like it), but the name BEAR is still there in her species name. lol.
For seasons 1 and 2 the writers hands were really tied by Nickelodeon so they aren’t regarded as the best like this was meant to be a mini series which is why it wraps up the way it does then surprise surprise the fans liked it enough to get 3 more seasons
Well to be fair Just like Korra and Aang, Amon was a bending prodigy. which means he learned how to be AT ONE with water. And as we all know water is very mobile and can be moved and shaped into any form, so dodging and weaving around attacks is ALMOST as easy as Air-Bending techniques. I would imagine that After Air-Benders, Water-Benders are the next best at evasion tactics. Making Earth bender the least able. They're Earth-Benders; they don't dodge, other people dodge THEM LOL.
Korra is an amazing show and I truly feel like too many people came into the show expecting Aang and Sokka to still be there or something. Also some people hate korra because of her personality, but she has a very similar personality to Zuko, and everyone loves him. So part of it might be that korra is a woman.
We're not the only ones to say it's a masterpiece dont worry, vilains, korra grow-up, world design, émotions, struggles, people forget these points and just use to hate korra for 1 or 2 mistakes(even season 2 was good tbh for me i just didnt liked season 4 except korra's dealing with her trauma and her grow-up)thats the greatest show iv ever saw with ATLA.and for me (i'm a man), i prefer the fact that shes a female character, if korra was a boy, i would'nt get connected to her tbh.
I'm sure you're well into season 2. A season that dials up what didn't work in season 1 and dials back what did work... Hope you stick through it! That being said, season 2 has a two-parter (Beginnings pt. 1 & 2) that's up there with the best that this entire franchise has to offer. After season 2, man oh man, season 3 as a whole... that's some REALLY great television, you are not ready. The season 3 finale never fails to make me cry.
Regarding why people don't like Korra, the main complaint for season 1 is it wrapped up too quickly with Korra getting her powers back immediately. Season 2 gets the most flak for other reasons.
@14:28 I think people's issue with LoK is just prototyping. They are likely forming their opinion by contrasting it with ATLA, not in isolation on it's own merits. Probably the same as people who can't get over a new actor playing popular character; it's not as good because it's not the same. People tend to watch the shows in order so the option for expectation and comparison is there for almost everyone who watches. ...It might be fun to get people to watch the second show first and poll opinions for contrast.
Good to see you girls enjoyed Book 1 and think it's actually on par with A: tLA so far. 😀 BTW, elder Katara is voiced by none other than Eva Marie Saint, who's best known for co-starring in the Hitchcock classic North by Northwest (another film you guys should think about covering). She voiced Katara when she was in her late 80's to 90's and honestly, her voice was only slightly kraggier than when she did North by Northwest around 60 years earlier. Eva's still with us, and she will turn 100 this year if she hangs in there. 😀
Yeah the fact Amon didn't even commit to his plan and didn't actually give himself real scars is so lame. You can see the crew was ordered only one season of the show cause of villain just leaving, and Korra magically getting all the bending back and healing everyone. It's not the last time overall story is gonna suffer cause of Nick flip-flopping no how many episodes they wanted.
If your asking for explanations I think most peoples problem with the show is the way the seasons were written seem very disjointed for 1, and 2; however at the same time most people don't know about the production issues they faced where for the first 2 seasons they didn't know that they were getting a subsequent season. I think having that info is what made me realize the the writing decision that I and many disliked were not the fault of the people making the show but the fault of the studio, and know that in hindsight this is up there with ATLA if not better, though that's just my opinion. I do know that my aunt who loves the original series, and was the person to introduce me too the series, didn't like it because of all the relationship stuff; however I think that was more coming from an adult perspective. I was still in high school when Korra premiered so I related to a lot of it, I think the writing aged with its target audience at the time, while also introducing serious themes.
I’m sure ppl have commented this dozens of times but they originally didn’t know if they would get more season. Nickelodeon was horrendous in managing this show and forcing things to be worse than they could have been. Like Korra losing her bending is such an interesting conflict for her character to go through and I wish we had most of season 2 with her dealing with that, it would have made Aang showing up even more impactful. It’s clear they had to rush some things and it’s wild that Nickelodeon managed their most successful franchise in their history like this. It’s a true shame. Still love Korra tho. It has some amazing villains. Just a few things that fall flat. The love triangle is pretty lame for example.
This episode is up there with any top Avatar episode. The moment where Korra Airbends for the first time and breaks out of Amon's grip. The moment Aang shows up and all the previous Avatars appear. Korra going into the Avatar state and restoring Lin's bending. I get chills in all those moments
The problem of the people who didnt liked LoK is that they expected and wanted to see an ATLA book 4 and they thought LoK is that and when they were disappointed that they didnt get to see what really happend to Zuko, to uncle Iroh, to Sokka, to Azula yadah yadah yadah not realizing that this is a different show. I think if you move past this mentality and treat LoK the respect this show truly deserves as its own stand alone show, you will slowly realize how complex, deep and meaningful the concept they are trying to offer. The show clearly grows up with its audiences and it's a show that truly gives back the loyalty and dedication you put into as an Avatar fan.
The first season is really good because it was supposed to be a stand alone season and the end of the korra story, but Nick asked for another season afterward then while they were finishing the second they were asked for the other seasons. This is why i think the other seasons don't flow as well. With Aang they did what they set out to do water, earth, and fire seasons, but with Korra it becomes a stop and go will they won't they show and it begins to show as the show goes on. There are still great moments throughout though.
Mako is a great friend and a terrible lover. Reminder: because the executives screwed up, the show creators thought each season would be the last. Because of this, every season is self-contained and there is no overarching story spanning all seasons like there was with the first show. On the plus side, the character development crosses all seasons, and I think some of these characters arcs are better in this show. Season 2 is the weakest, but it also introduces some truly amazing characters.
I love ❤ korra and I think the other reason why so many people didn’t like it was because she didn’t have a self building arc like Ang did he had to find a master to teach him his bending skills he actually trained for it but korra was just born at the same skill level as ang nothing was earned.like the first time Ang fire bend,he had to learn to respect fire bending unlike korra. I love korra
There's nothing wrong with season 1. It's great. Problem is with the following seasons. Season 2 starts like Korra didn't learn anything from all this story in season 1. Like she had no character growth. And every season after that is just like that. The reason for this is Nickelodeon only gave go ahead for the following seasons depending on how the previous season performs. Unlike Last Airbender, where they wrote the whole 3 seasons in one go. Writers of Korra had to start every season like they are starting a new project. So every season Korra goes through the same character arc. And she does the same mistakes over and over. This becomes frustrating to the viewers.
One of the hardest parts of Korra was it was written as a one season arc, so book 2 had to mix up a lot of the resolutions so it's kinda rough... But book 3 is great. I also like 4.
A lot of people don't like thr legend of Korra but I think it's great because the show dealt with real trauma. Perhaps a lot of people watch The last air bender is because the carefree nature of the story telling and in a way, it's a good way to forget the harsh reality of adulting.
I enjoyed korra and im glad yall did enjoy s1. I will say though s2 does suffer from budget cuts which makes animation suffer allot in some places. But they pick up at s3 and dont stop at s4.
As I have said, I think this show is brilliant. Yes it has ups and downs, but even in its worst season it has amazing episodes (like the story of "Stinky"). I basically agree with your analyses. I probably am even more positive about it, though seeing it with my kids probably helped. And there is no movie in Republic City!
My problem with the show is really just Korra as a person, I find literally everyone and everything is more interesting then her, and for a show that's supposed to be about HER, it's not a good thing for that to happen. Aang can be dismissed as the classical reluctant hero type but she is the opposite. In this episode she demonstrates an unwillingness to connect to people when she believes she lost her bending, then turns around when she gets it back. It shows her entire self worth is invested in the fact that she is the avatar, self centered hero complex does not making a compelling person to follow. Maybe this is good writing for a teenage girl, that is beyond me, but those are my thoughts.
I once saw it described as Aang's journey is about a person becoming the Avatar, while Korra's journey is about the Avatar becoming a person. And besides being older than Aang, you have to keep in mind how she grew up. She's known she's the Avatar since she was like 3, and most of her life up until now has existed of training bending in an isolated compound, being told she's the Avatar who has important duties to the world. That doesn't change that it can't be obnoxious and grating at times, but it does explain a lot about _why_ she acts the way she does.
Season 1: Really good, with some annoying bits here and there. Season 2: The opposite. Not so good, but with some highlights Season 3: Possibly the best season of the show (maybe the franchise?) Season 4: A near-perfect ending
there are really interesting ideas and themes in legend of Korra, but it ultimatly doesn't do them Justice. this season f.e. the social tension between benders and non benders is really interesting. But the resulution -the main guy from the equivalists was a fraud- is a bit of a cop out. That would have been fine if working on the underlying social problems had been a theme in the coming seasons.
Honestly.. I don't think anyone was expecting to see a successful um.. "Ending of one's own life" and another contemplation in one episode.. Yeah.. This show can get pretty sad and dark, more so than ATLA if I'm honest, by a good bit. Strap in ladies.
I feel the reason most people don't like the show is because of Korra. Korra is just way too cocky and pretty much the reason why all the villains get away with what they do. Amon wouldn't have got this far if she didn't have the I'm the avatar and get to do whatever I want attitude. If she just relied on her friends a bit more instead of rushing into things, most of the troubles Amon and Tarrlok caused wouldn't have happened. Same thing for the season 2 villain.
I guess that’s fair but that’s her character and a lot of people given that power would probably be the same as her. Think it’s a cool dynamic vs Aangs character who didn’t want the responsibilities but had to learn to deal with it
the only things i find hard about legend of korra is that she seems to just brush off consequences really easily and that cartoon network messed the creators around they still did a spectacular job still probably better than any other group that had to deal with those pressures. on another note i think that they tried to highlight the other things the avatar has to deal with like the spirituality and duty to the people etc over just bending the four elements which is very different to aangs journey the comparison i would make is he got spirituality almost as easy as Korra got the physical aspects of bending. and finally how bending has progressed and changed from aangs time with more rigid fighting styles and some techniques becoming easier like bending lightening, i see why people would take issue with that but i also think it had decades to develop into the industrial era shown in Legend of korra.
I think both series are great, and I stand on that to this day. People who complain just don't like change. Each new Avatar story will be something different whether people like it or not. I can't wait to see the new stuff that they're cookin up at Avatar Studios.
In terms of stakes and plot, all seasons are very well thought...but the writing of the other seasons is weaker. Korra is going back and forth (power and spirit wise) to justify the story, and it feels forced and twisted. It's like they were great ideas but not enough writing process to really make it work. Still it's good to watch while it could have been awesome.
the reason a lot of people don't like the show is the characters. the character development is minimal and we don't really see people dealing with consequences or changing. if Korra had to spend a season with no bending it coulda been rly neat. everything went back to the way it was at the start of the season, except Asami has an evil father, and mako and korra are together? but who was even wanting that? you'd have to be insane to be excited about the will they wont they thing they have. some moments in the show are cool bit the overall narrative is lacking imo. it's just stuff happening in the avatar universe, not an insight into things we the viewers can relate to
The first season of TLoK is pretty darn good, but the ending always felt a bit rushed to me... probably because afaik the series was renewed for a second season only after the first one finished. So the first season had to rush to the end and then the second season had to introduce an entirely new issue. Another issue of TLoK is that the BBEGs all feel weird. Iman seems well written but that's mostly because there are so many layers of intrigue going on that we don't even realize that there isn't really a reason for him to act the way he does. I mean, yes, we could chalk up his plans to pure lust for power, but his real intentions are never actually revealed, at least not so much that it's feels genuine nor in a way that allows us to extrapolate what his end game was. And then there is one specific arc that I won't spoil for you, but the ending to that arc feels like the antithesis of the entire setting before. It's jarring. And honestly, I could've lived with some of the shallow plans of the BBEGs and some of the lesser issues of TLoK, but that ending to that specific arc is just garbage and deserves to be purged.
While I enjoyed Korra, I think there's a few reasons people don't like it. 1) Bad pacing. Nickelodeon only green lit one season, then didn't extend until it had wrapped. Did this with the second season too. This prevented the writers from creating long-term arcs, and forced them to rush endings at the end of seasons. 2) Korra is a teenager and acts like a teenager. That's good writing, but I understand some people would find it annoying. I think the pacing exacerbated this as well. 3) Retcons to lore. No spoilers, but some revealed lore wasn't well received, either due to personal preference, resulting lore conflicts upon further consideration, or contradiction. No discussion here! No need for spoilers! Just didn't sit well with everyone for a variety of reasons. Others were fine with it 🤷♂️. Mostly I think it was reason 1. The writers were working with serious handicaps due to the uncertain show length, and I'm pretty sure the other issues were a direct or indirect result of this.
Yes, grab those tissues! And it only gets better from here, but what an ending to S1! It pisses me off that Nickelodeon thought a brown woman wouldn't "sell" as well and so they kept giving the creators a hard time.
I think the reason so many people don’t LOK is just because of the whole “new things aren’t as good” attitude. Like it’s not that it’s actually that bad. It’s just that it’s really hard for some people to get past the nostalgia and familiarity of ATLA. Personally there are several aspects of LOK that I prefer over ATLA. I think Korra has a much stronger, relatable character development than Aang. But that also doesn’t mean that Aang’s character development isn’t relatable or good. They’re both amazing and there’s really no reason you can’t enjoy both. Just enjoy LOK and have fun. It’s a beautiful show.
Without spoilers: Here are the complains I most often heard about TLOK: 1. Korra was immediately depicted as better at bending than Aang, being immediately awesome at it even as a child. That's sort of true but the show implies she still spent years training in every element except Air, and we see her starting her training in that...that they didn't show her prior training in detail, I think, reflects that that was Aang's story arc and not Korra's. She a;also clearly has flaws, unlike a Mary Sur. She's aggressive and impulsive being two obvious onces. I kind of lump this one together with "the show is too 'woke,' which you did hear sometimes, though only after the show concluded (as 2012 was a little too early for the culture war stuff. 1.a. More legit: Some people wanted the backstories on what happened to every character, like Sokka, Toph, Suki, Zuko, etc. And t's fair to say they didn't give you much about those character's fates. 2. Every character around her just kept slathering her in compliments and so sounded a little one note. To some extent that's fair of her immediate friends, but not always of Tenzin and Lin Beifong is almost the opposite. 3. Korra shows no character growth. The one seems to mostly come from people who didn't watch the show very long, IMO. I suppose it was only mild growth in Season 1 in that she became more "spiritual" (though they didn't really show that happening over the course of the season IMO, it was just sort of "declared to be so" at the end). But there are other seasons to come so give it time. 4. The seasons are uneven because there is no one overarching story for Korra, more four largely separate ones, one after the other. I think that is fair if you prefer one big story and not four separate arcs, and I myself like some seasons and adversaries more than others., So that is perhaps legitimate, but down to subjective preference. And, in any event, Nickelodeon was renewing the show seasons by season, so if they had planned a big overall story, the show might have been cancelled leaving it unfinished.
I still can’t believe they had a kids show that ended in a murder/suicide of the villains and the protagonist so far depressed that she is contemplating her own suicide. It’s dark as hell
At 10:32 everybody missed that detail.. Amon cried that scene because, he could read mind because of blood bending.... He read his brother's mind realized his brother will kill them both and he sad about that..
Ang's line still makes me cry. "When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change."
Yakone tried to take over Republic City through crime. Tarrlok tried to do it politically. Amon tried a revolution/uprising. All failed.
A legacy of failures
I don’t think that Amon technically failed….let’s not forget he was the closest to win
@@patrickcromwell7554 "the ONLY character written with less intelligence is Unaloq."
-> It's called a character arc: Korra season 1 is still immature, but that changes over the course of the next seasons.
But I'm sure you're totally ok with season 1 Zuko "written with less intelligence".
"But Korra "just suddenly Airbending" is the worse written plot armor McGuffin EVER"
-> Aang even explained it at the end of the episode: when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.
But I'm sure you're totally ok with Aang suddenly rockbending at the end of the "Bitter Work" episode, when he had finally the right mindset for it.
The usual double standards by a certain type of guys... 🙄
Varik tho. Spirits tho
One of the darkest things in the Avatar universe after the murder suicide is Korra looking over that cliff. She is obviously thinking of ending it and letting the cycle begin again.
Isn't that mostly a theory, though?
@@krazytreRTM the tear drop falling over the cliff is the nick way of saying shes thinking about it
@@krazytreRTM Nope. It's quite explicit.
"Obvious?"
Nah. I read it as more of an "alone" feeling. Noone can understand what she's going through. Staring into a vast empty ocean view. Like stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. Nope rescue in sight. When she's suddenly joined by someone who *can* inherently understand her.
@@krazytreRTMit's confirmed by the writer's
I love that Tenzin is so disciplined and serious that it sometimes becomes comedic relief watching him react to situations.
Same vibe with old iroh. He's very goofy and humorous but when he gets serious, goosebumps.
"How are they going to keep the story interesting with the introduction of new villains."
*Grins in Zaheer*
Glad you guys really enjoyed season 1. Once you watch S3 this show hits on a whole other level
Season 3, YEAH
my headcannon will always be korra went to that cliffside because she was contemplating deleting herself to allow a new avatar with access to all elements to be born. she defined herself almost exclusively by her status as the avatar and without being able to bend 3 of the 4 elements she was never going to be the avatar she should have been.
I love how you said that it was your headcanon. While I do like the theory, people tend to write it as if it's a confirmed fact that she was contemplating suicide.
@krazytreRTM they never said one way or the other and I see where it could be wrong.
@@pabloc8808 Actually that is a huge stretch...
Gonna be such a fun time.
truly a breathtaking season! my favorite of the series for sure 😎
Season 3, YEAH
Best villain in the whole show imo. Besides Zuko but he doesn’t really count as a villain.
Aang showing up still hits me in the feels every time
This show has a lot of flaws that can't be ignored, but I'll admit that I always tear up at that final scene where Korra gives Lin her bending back, and the music swells as she lifts those rocks. It's just so delightfully human and gratifying, especially because you finally get to see why Tenzin thought Lin and Korra were more alike than they realize. They both define themselves first and foremost by their bending, and for them to finally bond over the loss and return of their bending is something truly special.
I hate how hot amon is 😅 without the fake scar of course
Aang - "when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change"
You can’t handle his King Kong 😏🥵
- Bolin can't metalbend (yet?🤔😏), but apparently Naga can, hehehe.
- Some serious tearbending there when Aang shows up. 😢❤
I like to think that Amon knew that Tarlok was going to blow up the boat and is why he shed a tear.
He didn't know though. Otherwise he would've stopped him. He shed a tear because he got sentimental after Tarrlok reminded him of the good old days.

“When we hit our lowest points we are open to the greatest change.” - Aang the 🐐 avatar. Girls you might see some comments about Korra SUICID3 moment but don't believe them.
They just read a theory and blind themselves and want to blind others.
Some of them might said it was confirmed but The writers never said that, that was a theory created by fans.
And is a poor theory too because:
1-That cliff was shown in ep1 and is the place where Korra goes when she is upset or mad, that's her "safe place".
“IM THE AVATAR YOU BETTER DEAL WITH IT”
“Im not the avatar anymore you dont need to do me any favors” 😭
I fucking love Korra.
That line by Aang always gets me. Personally i keep going lower & lower waiting for that moment
If I remember correctly they were planning to end the show after season 1 and then a few more times after too so that’s why a lot of the season finales feel like it’s the end of the show
Korra started off at age 17 [well, we saw her much younger at the very start, but you know what I mean].
Arianna's reaction to Naga busting them out was priceless. lol. It's almost like she forgot that Naga is actually a BEAR. Sure she's a dog too (and acts like it), but the name BEAR is still there in her species name. lol.
ep 11 Tarlok : put an end to this sad story
ep 12 " fine I'll do it myself "
😂😂😂
Once I read that Aang was the human who learn to be the avatar and that Korra was the avatar who learn to be human, this kind of makes sense
you will understand why some don't like it when you watch the entire series. 2012 - 2014 where the embers of things to come.
4:53 pure comedy gold from Maple and the editor
For seasons 1 and 2 the writers hands were really tied by Nickelodeon so they aren’t regarded as the best like this was meant to be a mini series which is why it wraps up the way it does then surprise surprise the fans liked it enough to get 3 more seasons
Anna with the clutch 3 pointer 💪🏽
Gotta watch the teaser for live action
“Im afraid he will crush someone from the inside” right after he popped the guys heart
Watching this in the school library. Everyone’s studying for midterms and I’m over here sobbing to Avatar LOL
Good to see you girls enjoyed Book 1 and think it's actually on par with A: tLA so far. 😀
BTW, elder Katara is voiced by none other than Eva Marie Saint, who's best known for co-starring in the Hitchcock classic North by Northwest (another film you guys should think about covering).
Why are you crying!!!? You're making me cry!!!! Stop it!!!!
They didn't ever know if they were getting a next season, so they had to wrap up the story each time
The first season is really good because it was supposed to be a stand alone season and the end of the korra story, but Nick asked for another season afterward then while they were finishing the second they were asked for the other seasons. This is why i think the other seasons don't flow as well. With Aang they did what they set out to do water, earth, and fire seasons, but with Korra it becomes a stop and go will they won't they show and it begins to show as the show goes on. There are still great moments throughout though.
This was fun, I'll be back for S2 Ep. 7 & 8, and then for S3 & S4
Can’t wait for Book 2 !!!
You say enthusiastic I say impulsive
Can’t wait for season 3. One the best seasons of avatar, including the original series
Its by far the best out of both series
Not so good, but with some highlights
Season 3: Possibly the best season of the show (maybe the franchise?)
Season 4: A near-perfect ending
there are really interesting ideas and themes in legend of Korra, but it ultimatly doesn't do them Justice. this season f.e. the social tension between benders and non benders is really interesting. But the resulution -the main guy from the equivalists was a fraud- is a bit of a cop out. That would have been fine if working on the underlying social problems had been a theme in the coming seasons.
Season 4..... on debate
5:02 Fun fact: Because Iroh took down at least five Equalist airplanes, he is technically the first ever ace in the world of Avatar. 😎🛩
Honestly.. I don't think anyone was expecting to see a successful um.. "Ending of one's own life" and another contemplation in one episode.. Yeah.. This show can get pretty sad and dark, more so than ATLA if I'm honest, by a good bit. Strap in ladies.
I love the memey edits 😂
That murder suicide was pretty hard-core.
Its so weird to think Korra and Makos relationship is basically based on "i cheated because i love you/i love you because you cheated" 😂
The next season is the least compelling, but I don't think it'll be unenjoyable for you, and afterwards you get rewarded by season 3.
Tarlok put an end to the cycle
the reason a lot of people don't like the show is the characters. the character development is minimal and we don't really see people dealing with consequences or changing.
if Korra had to spend a season with no bending it coulda been rly neat. everything went back to the way it was at the start of the season, except Asami has an evil father, and mako and korra are together? but who was even wanting that? you'd have to be insane to be excited about the will they wont they thing they have.
some moments in the show are cool bit the overall narrative is lacking imo. it's just stuff happening in the avatar universe, not an insight into things we the viewers can relate to
they’re 16-18
13:19 your reaction to season 3 probably
Tarlok just wanted to end his fathers legacy, if they lived pain will only follow
Season 1 was great. It's just downhill from here
I think the reason so many people don’t LOK is just because of the whole “new things aren’t as good” attitude.
Maple tho 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
This is my true ending! 😭none of that season 4 pandering bullshi
I love TLOK. I just think the writers hated her because they put her through SO MUCH!
Without spoilers: Here are the complains I most often heard about TLOK:
Aang also jumps the gun that’s how he burned Katara
Damn Good Show.
Not sure if I was supposed to see this.
It's fine. You're not the only one
Season 2 is the weakest season by far but I’m sure you wıll love season 3 and 4. She gets so much character development along the way.
