Thank you for this video! I just started as a PT (after getting certified as quickly as I could - two weeks) and I feel incredibly overwhelmed at my new job (I’m just three days in). This video made me realize that I’m not as far behind as I feel like I am. Your other videos have been very helpful too!
@@glowwithsandra I was certified through ISSA. All the quizzes/tests are open-book and there is a search feature. All you have to do is look at the quiz and test questions and search the online textbook for the subject of each question. It typically takes you right to the answer.
I like what you said about long term goals. I need those. Right now I just want to help people lose weight like me. I don't even care about the money. But other than that I am kinda lost. I will work on that.
just earned a subscriber ! just got hired for a gym at eos with the long term goal of an in person training business and this really helped. A lot of the courses and educational classes are cool but nothing teaches you like in person practice. great video 💙💪🏾
I just enrolled in a personal trainer course and my first class is on july 6 so this early, i want to learn as much from you coach JEFF! keep making informative videos like these!
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation welcome, I do hope to learn more from you as I navigate my way into being a PT one day all the best to you and your company!
I am just making the transition from being a secondary school teacher to becoming a personal trainer, and am finding all your videos immensely helpful. Thank you so much for making this content.
This channel has been an incredible resource since starting out on this career / managed to get certified/ got a job / apprenticeship as Jeff calls it here and feel like I’m growing everyday and getting better. Thanks Sorta Healthy🙏🏾
I gotta say that I Love all of your videos, they are all soo informative and your also a great teacher.!!.. I am laughing because as I turned this video on i paused it to go pour my second cup of coffee ... and then you started talking about coffee and caffeine.. yes all trainers i know fit the bill for this. thanks again for all the content you put out!! :)
I actually had a question for you about when you first started your LLC. You obviously worked as a trainer at a gym, but how could do you have any photos or information to put up on Google, reviews and such, or in the form of a website such as Facebook or Instagram? meaning when you worked as a trainer in the gym I’m sure they didn’t let you take photos. How did that affect your business when it started? Cause I mean… you would have experience but not that info. I am wondering how to honestly get around this when I have years and years of experience but no photos or reviews bc I worked for a private personal training company (well, two). I have also trained but off the books to be honest. Do you have a video on how to flip a business from under the table to on the table? 😂 (last part is a joke). Seriously wondering your opinion /experience with this, I am at the beginning stage but … not a beginner trainer (at all). Lol. Thank you!! ❤
Thanks for the support and kind words! When I was starting out I took pictures of myself training some friends and family members. I also had some of those same people leave me reviews as well. Luckily, in my case I had actually trained those people so those reviews were legit. Basically, as you sign more people on you’ll want to find ways to incentivize them to leave you reviews. Your best clients typically won’t mind doing that at all. Also, within a year of starting I hired someone to take some better pictures of myself training clients. That said, the pics of me working with friends and family were more than enough to get the ball rolling. Hope that helps!
@@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation thank you, it does! I do have a couple people to take pictures with that I train now, so was thinking the same thing. Thank you for sharing your experience and I really appreciate your feedback 💜
Thank you so much for all the informations you give to us. I'll just start my first job tomorrow. My main concern is the paperwork, I feel like I don't know what exactly I need and where do I need to have. Do i have to print out all the forms and then complete them with the client? I feel overwhelmed here.
I’m glad you’re finding everything helpful! If tomorrow is your first day your new manager should spend some time preparing you. You probably won’t be training any actual clients right away. That being said, check out this video if you need more guidance on how to start things off with a client: ua-cam.com/video/KcKZ1QCUij8/v-deo.html
If posting clients progress photos on social media, just ask them if they would be okay with you using their photo on your page as a testimonial for your business/to show off their success. We always tell people that we can cover faces/anything they want covered and not use names if that makes them more comfortable. If taking something during a session, ask “would you be comfortable (or up for) me recording a 10 second video of you doing ____ for my Instagram page? I’m trying to share more videos of me training clients and you do ___ really well. Totally understand if that’s something you’re not comfortable with!” In general, I would only ask clients you have a solid relationship with and that you know would probably be okay with it.
Was working at Gold's Gym and they didn't like me promoting myself as a trainer. They liked it when the other trainers did, but would start creating new rules every time I promoted myself. The trainer department manager said it's because the general manager thought I was trying to steal clients 🙄 They're basically so paranoid it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy as trainers leave every couple months or so. I'm not sure if all Gold's gyms are that way or just here where I live (the local ones here are all owned by the same person)
Hopefully you got it man! Sorry that I’m just seeing this now! As far as a movement coach in particular goes, do you have any certifications that are movement specific? Those could go a long way in an interview.
What are the rules for creating social media content within a gym that is a chain? Can I avoid copyright or publicity right infringement if I avoid the name of the gym? Where is the best source to read up on this?
Good questions! Unfortunately, there aren’t clear rules on that in most cases. It will vary gym to gym and again, things are likely to be unclear. The vast majority of the time gyms won’t care if you’re posting content in their facility.
Sounds like a great idea! Get the experience early and then go off on your own and make more money! It’s the best way to make a career out of training!
How about a video on getting a "fitness following" on social media, creating a Facebook page, do's and donuts ect..... Thanks for all your hard work and content, chronic caffeine addiction,,,,,possibly 😂
Haha I hear you! Thanks for the kind words! The chronic caffeine is real! I probably won’t make a video on getting a fitness following because I don’t have a big fitness following. We have enough of a following to run our businesses successfully but that’s pretty much it. We’re much better at starting and running training business than we are at getting popular on social media. Some of the stuff like creating a FB page, do’s and don’ts, we’ve covered in other videos but never with the intent of building a large following. We always focus on the business side of things with that.
There are many places that don’t require training experience however, you can always train friends and family and shadow other trainers to gain some experience before applying.
