  • As an Osteopath it can be a difficult experience when a return patient tells you that they're a lot worse after your treatment. But it's essential to be able to handle these situations because every practitioner will experience this.
In fact it doesn't matter what type of practitioner you are - whether you are an Osteopath, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Massage therapist - treat robustly or very gently with Cranial Osteopathy or craniosacral therapy - all of us will experience this situation with our patients.
It's the same if you are an Osteopath that treat babies, in fact often that can be even harder because if a baby is worse after treatment then parents can get very more upset about that.

I love this as a student! A really nice insight for someone who is in the infancy of treating patients!

they can be tough times at the start - especially if you have tendancies towards control and perfection which I certainly do, I almost quit on several occasions in my fist year in practice. I think looking back I would say to all newish practitioners "be nice to your patients, but nicer to yourself" !
