Greetings, and coming to you from Central Florida. The issue I have been having was described in your video exactly, but what was the most helpful, as no one else has offered the suggestion, was to LOOK INTO THE TANK when turning on the ignition and look for the "spraying fuel". I did not think I would be able to see spraying fuel in that very small hole where the fuel goes, but as I did what you suggested, there it was; like a shower spray. I followed your disassembly, but decided to drain the tank before doing so, which was very easy. In less than 10 minutes after disconnecting the battery I had the unit out and disassembled. The tell tale signs are there; cracked mounting tabs on the regulator with the o-ring bulging out. This job would have cost over 500.00 at a Harley Dealer. I am doing this repair on a 2005 HARLEY SOFTAIL DELUXE with FUEL INJECTION. Many, many thanks, my brother, for your tutorial. Another excellent video from You Tube College.

THANK YOU! This was very helpful - not only did you not replace every stinking thing, like some people have said you should do including the screws but most importantly you provided the link to the Amazon parts. That's really helpful! I just priced out a replacement fuel pump assembly (part 75284-08A) for my 08 FLSTSB and it was $295 (Feb 2024) from the dealer. On Amazon it's $80. Thanks again!

I used this video to replace my pump. I had the same issue with putting the retaining washer on the post that secures the prefilter to the pump. I also had to use a small socket and a hammer to drive it on. If you want to keep everything in place put a small piece of tape over the spring washer, taping it to the prefilter housing before you drive it onto the post. This will keep it from dropping off before you get it driven onto the post.

After filling the tank, it will not idle , runs extremely rough, spits and coughs and will die at all speeds. I will be putting in some Sea Foam and hope that it helps if the pump picked up some debris from the bottom of the tank. If the Sea Foam does not work, do you foresee me having to replace the fuel filter? Also, is there a way to drain the tank?

My 07 FLHTC ran fine on Saturday, then wouldn't start on Sunday. I disconnected fuel line from quick connect port, then reconnected, & it started. Went for a test ride, and it died 5 or 6 times in about a 2 block round trip - each time it restarted after disconnecting & reconnecting fuel line. After I got back home I was able to get it to stay running, so let it idle for 10 minutes. So now it starts like normal, but I'm afraid that it will leave me stranded somewhere. It might have just been an air-lock in the fuel line (so I've read) but I'm going to replace those parts, to be safe. I've read that ethanol in fuel deteriorates those parts. 2 Co-worker used to be H-D mechanics, & both still wrench on the side, so gonna have one of them do the work for me. I think it will be money well spent for preventive maintenance.

Good video. I'm curious to know if you'd have some insight that might help me. I have a 2005 RK. I recently took the tank off to install rocker lockers (didn't help much) and when I put it back together I found my fuel gauge to be dead in the water. no power to the gauge, it reads empty, and the low gas light on the dash stays on. I've checked and double checked the wire connections. The fuses are ok. I had the battery disconnected during the job, anyway. I was slow and methodical in my work. i just do not understand how what i was working on would cause the gauge to quit on me. One thing I would add is that I hung the tank up vertically from a ceiling hook with a bungee for a couple weeks so gas wouldn't drip out and to keep it out of the way from being damaged. Do you think me hanging the tank up could have screwed up the fuel pump/gauge unit inside the tank somehow, causing my gauge to quit? Any ideas? Pisses me off. No way I'm taking this thing to a dealer.

Wow man congrats on doing the job yourself, as far as the gauge man electronics are such finicky items , I honestly don’t know, let us know what you come up with. Thanks for watching!!

@@TheBadgers You can use a DVOM and check the ohm readings of your fuel level sending unit. Unplug your wires and use the meter to take readings when the float is down and when the float is in the up/ full position. You may have to research the ohm readings you should be getting from the sending unit in the full and empty positions.Your float may also be malfunctioning after being removed from the gas. The float may always sink to the bottom; giving you an empty reading all the time..

Update on my issue, long after the fact. I soon realized that my problem was a badly corroded delphi connector, i think theyre called. The whole thing looked like a fuzzy green penny. So basically the wiring, leading to the fuel gauge from underneath the tank. I guess me disconnecting and reconnecting it that one time caused a corroded pin to break free from its wire. I ended up having to take the connector pins apart and replacing the connector and pins. Not going to corrode on me again. I have the connector sealed off from each end now with silicone rtv, and grease. These older bikes....seems like every time I take my bike apart to fix one thing, I discover something else I need to address. I am about to replace my regulator, its housing, fuel filter, the check valve and the inside lines. My check valve o rings are kind of weepy so I'm going in there and basically replacing everything but the fuel pump, which I know was already replaced some years ago. A bit of preventative maintenance so hopefully i do not get stranded.

Any update on this? Bike performing well since this video? Did you change all three (Regulator, Filter & Pump) just because you were already going in there? I am having similar symptoms (sputtering, chugging, loss of power, & stalling) in my Fuel Injected '09 Heritage (i have owned since 2017) and thought about trying the fuel filter first since I have no record of it ever being serviced. I changed the Crank Position Senor and still have the symptoms. This riding season I have already changed the Oil, Oil Filter, Spark Plugs & Wires.
