The choreography is beautiful and I love the pattern she creates on the ice. So intricate and clever. And of course those who managed her image knew exactly what they were doing putting out a programme like this for her
Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for this for SO long! This was one of the very first figure skating things I saw on tv and I fell in love with the sport!
I came here to watch Katarina skate, but once Karen Carpenter's voice came on I totally forgot the skate and became totally transfixed by Karen's beautiful voice. How smart of Katarina to use Karen's voice for her exhibition skate !
I never heard her saying this... In the recent Katarina Witt documentary she said that she would not have wanted to escape to the West because she could not imagine to simply leave her parents, friends and trainer behind and that she would feel like a traitor doing this because she appreciated the support the GDR system gave her in pursuing her athletic goals. She acknowledges that other citizens in GDR might not have had this beneficial treatment. What bothered her was the prospect of not being able to do (international) ice shows after her competitive career had GDR not resolved. Not glorifying GDR but defecting was never a risk with her or even planned.
Katarina’s skating is as silky smooth as Karen’s voice. The only imperfection is that the low quality speakers/microphones compromised a great deal of the nuance and subtlety in Karen’s vocals and the instrumental tracks. 😢
The Year..KATARINA lost her World title. DEBI was better that year..in Figures, Short Program and Technical difficulty (triple loop).... But, Katarina rose from the ashes!

The colours of this costume are just so nice, however all of her costumes were made in the West.
