  • The R5 Gen 2 delivers versatile performance with dual amplifiers, but may not be the best player for outdoor use.

So the difference between class A and no class A is small? Perhaps that is why Super Reviews said the most remarkable feature of this Dap is NOT the class A amp but the superdap battery life of economy mode. I have Shanling m3x and I think it only works well with sensitive iems. Besides, it is a bit difficult to install several apps , I have downloaded about three and does not allow me to install anything else despite having space. Could it be the old Android 7? Is this Dap a valid upgrade for M3x or should I climb for Shanling M6 2021 or Fiio m11 plus?

Nice review! Just on terms of pure sound quality and reproduction - is it worth paying the extra cash for the R6 2020? I'm just looking for a plain DAP for Tidal, Qobuz, and a DSD local library, with no intention of browsing the web or social media.

We feel that unless you have a more power hungry headphone, there will not be a huge improvement going with the R6. The Class A output on the Hiby sounds very good. For power hungry headphones (for instance DT1990 Pro at 250 ohms on single ended connection) the R6 may be more appropriate as the amplifier has more headroom.

hi great review! Does the R5 support multiple genre tags on mp3 files? Eg. have the same album in 'Rock' and 'Hard Rock' genres?

I would imagine that it would be up to the software you use for media playback. It has an Android operation system so you'd have plenty of options to chose from

Do you think i need this kind of dap? Im currently still using yesteryear's Astell & Kern Ak Jr and i pair it with a moondrop Aria. Is the upgrade worth it or is it just overkill when i only use entry level IEMs?

Are these things built very sturdy? The sound is great and I loved the one I had when it worked for the sound quality. But the one I bought I had a few months of use then the headphone jack stopped working properly and only playing through one earphone, after sending back to the manufacturer for warranty it came back after 8 weeks. and after a week or so the same problem with the headphone jack not working and no sound in earphones. I really value the sound quality but the build doesn't seem very sturdy. I have a Pecsu p5s I. Paid under $200 for and the sound isn't as good but it's built well and I have never had a problem with it. Seems a shame and i wonder if there is any device that has this kind of sound quality as the hiby r5 but is also got a good sturdy build as it would love to hear about it.

Received yesterday. After contact customer hiby, my device have a problem. I have to return it. In 4.4mm I have a pop in the right side constantly when screen off.

Would you think this is a suitable DAP with only the HD800S trought the 4.4 output as you showed in the video, or it's more like a stretch?
Do you think one could appreciate much better sound quality with the new R6 or another DAP around the 700, 800 € / us$ pricetag compared to r5 gen 2 or it's not worth it?

I think that the HD800S might actually be okay with the 4.4mm output, which outputs around 3.5 v to high impedance headphones, unless you are listening to low-level recordings like classical music. Then you will likely need more gain than the R5 Gen 2 can supply.

Which DAP you will recommend R5 Gen2 or R6 Gen3, only 200$ difference.

Wonder how this competes with a lg v40, seeing measurements of daps doesn't make me very confident with them sadly.

So you feel the only real difference between phone and DAP is the digital pathway and power supply etc makes less difference?
