- The GE SuperStar 7-2850 Classic AM FM Portable Radio has that Go Fast Chrome Job. Does it live up to its Name? I take it through the Evening AM band to see what it can do after all these years. Adding the Terk Passive loop to the mix helps it perform more like it's bigger brother, the Superadio.

Overall, a Great looking radio with Decent Evening MW reception. The price on these are good on the secondary market. Expect to pay thirty USD for one in decent shape. Nothing quite replaces that smooth analog tuning experience, and the SuperStar heritage.

It is too bad that Chairman of GE sold off their consumer radio division…along with rest of the other items. Well at least some radios still survive and can still dazzle

Station on 1430 can’t be KZQZ because that went off more than two years ago. The owner had a criminal record, I believe. That frequency in the STL area has been vacant for quite some time. You’ve found something new! I am in Wentzville, Missouri now but moved here from Florissant where the station would have been much more powerful but it hasn’t been there since before the move.
I think you tuned the radio the "wrong way" that time because the tuning dial rotates opposite to what one would expect. Rotating clockwise (up) should send the indicator to the right and increase the frequency. But the opposite is the case. Or maybe I'm just assuming this because the radios I own tune that way. 😃
It does depend on how the mechanics work inside some of these more complex tuning systems. Some of the old radios had that cord that stayed tight to point the tuning bar to the somewhat correct frequency. Those wer a nightmare to repair!
What is the strongest overall radio because of internal parts and over all quality?
Especially regarding shortwave

I like my Sony ICF-2010, the Panasonic RF-2200 is awesome as well.
