Only the Jets could execute a fumble so embarrassingly bad that it would require a forensic investigation 6 years after the fact just to begin to understand it...
I literally choked on my coffee at the part where he says Matt Leinart had a long and prosperous career in the NFL. That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time.
@Notorious BIG thanks for the info; I am a pretty much lifelong Tennessee Titans fan, so I remember when they drafted Vince Young and the Cardinals drafted Matt Leinart. I will look for those other videos you mentioned.
I mean, he played seven seasons and made nearly $60M. That’s twice the length of the average NFL player and about 5-10X what that average player would make. How long and prosperous was your NFL career?
I don't have to imagine. The same year we beat the Patriots in the playoffs, we lost to them in the regular season 45-3. Danny Woodhead beat us by himself. I was thrilled when we beat them, but crushed when we lost to the Steelers the next game. That was the closest we got to a Superbowl since I've been a Jets fan. It has been downhill ever since.
They needed more time because this seriously understates the context. The Jets were in a position with great chance to tie up the game. Six plays, three fumbles, three NE touchdowns (one each offense, defense, and special teams), 49 seconds game time, and probably the most hilarious play in NFL history later: It was 28-0 and the game was effectively over.
I was one of the many watching live, my dad and I nearly ruptured something from laughing so hard. We recorded the game just so we could watch it over and over and show everyone at our house.
My dad and I, both Patriots fans in NYS, decided to go to this game because it was Thanksgiving and was close enough to go to. Seeing this in person was magical, although we contained our excitement until we were in the car after the game.
I feel sorry for Brandon Moore. He went to a Pro Bowl and did all that work after not even being drafted and all he’s known for us being the guy whose rear end Mark Sanchez sprinted into.
You skipped the play right after the Greene fumble, 83 yard TD pass from Brady to Shane Vereen (Bart Scott got smoked like the chump he is), then the butt fumble return for TD by, oh hey again Steve Gregory, then the ensuing kickoff return by McKnight fumbled right into the hands of Julian Edelman for a TD. 3 Touchdowns in 52 seconds, 1 on offense, 1 on defense and 1 on special teams. The whole Jets team was just as much a comedy of errors as Sanchez.
I appreciate that you highlighted Brandon Moore had pushed Wilfork back. I believe stupid Collinsworth started the narrative that Wilfork manhandled Moore and that's why Sanchez ran into him and that's how people remember it.
Who is Mark Sanchez and why is he running towards this mans butt? Excellent. As the patriots waste into irrelevance, I'll always have these memories to carry me through.
I guess you're right -- the closest they've ever come was going 12-4 in 1998, when they eventually lost in the AFC CG to John Elway and the Broncos. (Though their 11-3 1968 SB season was technically their highest win %)
It would’ve been a very memorable play just the butt fumble by itself but the fact that it was picked up and run back for a touchdown makes it historic and eternally unforgettable.
I recall reading that, despite his failure as a QB, due to savvy investing, Leinart was worth (if memory serves) about $30 million when he retired. What's that? $1 million per completion?
I remember being at that game sitting almost near the sideline thinking this is one of the greatest moments I’ve ever seen in sports history and I’m not even a Jets fan
Imagine being an NFL quarterback for 10 years, and your most memorable play is running into your offensive lineman's ass and fumbling the ball for a defensive touchdown
As a Mariners fan, I'd like to see one of these about the 1995 ALDS against the Yankees. Everyone knows Edgar's Double, but most people don't know about Game 4, Griffey's 5 Home Runs, The 15-Inning Game 2, the fact that the M's mounted something short of a miracle September to even get to the playoffs, the relocation rumors. There's more than enough material for a Rewinder if you ask me.
You should have mentioned how high everyone who didn't know football was on Teibow when the Jets signed him. He had a brief good run, which he credited to his religious devotion. The press ate it up and he was way overestimated. I don't know why the Jets went for that. Maybe it was because his star power was strong enough they thought it could motivate Sanchez, even if he wasn't actually a good player?
You need to do a rewind on Jose Bautista's home run against Texas in Game 5 of the 2015 ALDS. So much stuff to rewind for how the game and series got to that point.
Do Patrick Kane's 2010 Stanley Cup winning OT goal. I feel like it would be interesting, the end of the Blackhawks' drought plis the end of the Flyers incredible playoff run
Are you able to explain why, with his vision completely unobstructed, he ran DIRECTLY into someone's ass. That's what gets me about that play. Not the fact that the ass causes the fumble, but the fact that he can very clearly see what is ahead of him but still sprints directly into someone who is quite clearly going to remain stationary.
@@CyberchaoX He's in the same tier as Foles. Great in the clutch, not great in the long-term. Future commenters please debate if Eli Manning belongs to this tier as well
@@CyberchaoX its said during the video he was ranked 29th in passing and they ran the ball more than they passed. When they came across teams who could stop the run, Sanchez got exposed pretty clearly. He was like Kirk Cousins with a defense that can win a couple playoff games.
I watched them play Seattle that year, the Jets got into the redzone once and Sanchez threw an interception to Sherman. Funny thing, Sanchez didn't get a first down on the drive, Tebow did, they put him in some wildcat play that didn't work so he just ran for the first down instead, did it 3 times. But it was so obvious that Tebow wasn't meant to be competing, Sanchez didn't have one scoring drive the entire game and he stayed In until the end of the game.
You should ABSOLUTELY do a deep rewind of Eric Bruntlett's unassisted triple play to end the game after making two mistakes that could've cost his team the game
I remember this. I didn’t realize how infamous it would become until reading about it weeks later. Do episodes on: The Stanford Band play (better known as just the play) The MIT weather balloon coming out of the field in a Harvard and Yale game, which happened on the same day as it (11/20/82)
