Yeah we're going to use it as a self contained camp kitchen for when we go family camping Thanks for watching and commenting buddy hope you have a great 2020 All the best Roo
Yeah what used to be carried in two boxes and a folding camp kitchen is now self contained into this cool little box 👍 Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment really appreciate it buddy All the best Roo
Long ago - in the 80's - I used to maintain field desks in every unit of the Marine Corps I was in. We usually banded them together, 8 to a pallet. The folding seat (it didn't really count as a stool) was about 12in on a side, was secured by the webbed strap inside the front-lid, and was reasonably stable enough to use as a side-table. We usually filled them with notebook pads, typing paper, message pads, ink stamps...all the usual office zshush. Never used them as chuck boxes, though -- we hand-built footlocker-sized boxes for that. Good find....
Cool thanks for that I guess a little 12 inch stool would feel a bit like being sat on a kids school chair Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment to share that really appreciate it 👍 All the best Roo
Yes! My friend turned one into a chuck box, it works really nicely. I only camped with it once, but I am quite jealous. I recall it being a bit heavy, but so so cool and useful.
Yeah to get it in and out of the car I take the drawers out to save my back, its not lightweight! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment really appreciate it 👍 All the best Roo
Cheers Caleb wish I knew more about it but theres no unit markings on it but it's still pretty cool and is my first US surplus item 👍 Hope you have a great 2020 buddy Roo
Yeah me too James I wish I had more information on it but theres no other markings Still as my first US surplus item it's pretty cool and will be very handy when we go camping 👍 Take care brother Roo
Thanks Peter we love it already! Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment really appreciate it buddy hope you have a great weekend All the best Roo
My dad brought this home from his military base one day and I’ve had it in my room ever sense it has lasted me 4 years so I love it it is a little small but yeah
That's an awesome find brother! Very cool. I took a couple weeks break from technology and it's great to finally be catching up on your awesome content ✅👍🏻✊🏻↕️
That lock is not original, you can tell not only because it was made in China- which I am not certain if they did that or not- but also by the fact that where it says "U.S." it has dots after the letters, and the military does not put the dots, they only stamp the letters.
@@PreparedCamping nope. My dad had this exact type desk in his unit. He was a clerk and jeep driver for a Lt in the corp of engineers that built the highway in Vietnam during the war. You can google the ww2 field desk , it was more of an upright ,fold down writing style desk. ua-cam.com/video/6sQQrrSfILA/v-deo.html My grandad was a 1stSgt of the company mess hall , and he used this type of desk during ww2.
Oh I know its not that now several people have told me its m1950 so Korea war onwards, interesting they were still using these in Vietnam Thanks for watching and sharing buddy, hope you have a great weekend 👍 All the best Roo
@@PreparedCamping lol yeah, the military is pretty thrifty and these are almost indestructable . I think they became surplus in the early 1990s. Great channel.
This is an M 1950 field desk. It is post World War II as the name implies.
Thanks very much for the information much appreciated 👍

The fact it had "China" on it was clue enough this was made during the cold war and trade between the first and second world was almost nonexistent 😉
Vietnam era
Hadn't they moved on to other materials like aluminium for field desks by then?
