Dream Theater - Medley (Live) at The Fillmore, Detroit MI. February 22, 2022. 0:00 Invisible Monster 6:15 About to Crash 12:20 The Ministry of Lost Souls
I think he was trying to make his signature, and now he realized that all we want is to have good music. Portnoy is unique, so as Mangini. If you look at the quality of the last two DT albuns, you see that he finally have found his place in the band. We all miss Portnoy, but it is way better to still have DT rather than not. BUT, the extreme monster kit was epic.
@@Presto1920 all the answers for me is right, as that kit was, at least, "provocative". The best DT drum kit was the Albine Monster, from Portnoy. In my opinion.
Just FYI - those talking about the vocals during the chorus of About To Crash. If you listen to bootlegs from the 2002 tour, Portnoy would sing the upper octave in falsetto and LaBrie always sung the lower octave live. Petrucci would handle the middle harmony. Now that DT uses tracks to thicken up their live sound, they can incorporate more textures from the actual recording. James has always sung the lower octave in the chorus.
People just want to complain. It is absolute normal to have tracks being triggered in pretty much any band. When Queen plays Bohemian Rhapsody, in the lyrical part, the band leaves the stage and let the track alone. It is normal, period. What is not normal is pure lip sync, as many pop singer does.
oh bro don’t bother in explaining. Most of these toxic fans just wanna search for the minor mistake in each second of a live DT concert and unfortunately it has been like that since ever.
I went to a DT show like this in Philly. Everyone was seated and I was in the way back, so I just waltzed up to the stage and hung out with my elbows literally on the stage directly in front of JP. Shortly after, people started trickling up to the front, and before you knew it, everyone was standing and actually moving to the music. DT's music are sonic journeys .. you need to be moving to move it through your entire body. Anyway, I hope the band noticed the change in vibe. That night was my most memorable DT experience.
So we had assigned seats in Atlanta, and no one sat the entire show! Everybody up "waltzing", it was awesome... In 2019 during the SFaM tour, everyone stayed seated, but I managed to stand up at the balcony barrier, an employee sent me back to my seat but shortly after went back. We were 3 of us there, living the music, having a blast. It's truly hard to enjoy a concert seating down...
Wow wow wow, that was an excellent jp solo at the end! That one got me! Also not often that I can sit and watch multiple songs played in a row live. These ones all went together very well, the sound quality was great in the video. Great video thank you for sharing
I'll be honest... I'm getting a bit older so quite often I wear earplugs at concerts, now. So many concerts over the years, it's what it's come down to. Glad you were able to catch them live. They are impressive.
@@droidfan Yes, used a Galaxy S21+. The new phones do pretty well. Most of the videos on my channel were recorded with an LG V40. Basically, I make sure to always use Full HD (1080p) and try to hold steady so the mics aren't tracking anything else. Make sure you hold the phone by the edges and that you're not covering any of the mics. Last, some phones will zoom the mics when you zoom the camera, so avoid zooming in too much. You might not get the close up shots, but the sound will remain consistent (though you might be able to shut that off in the settings).
Ummmmm... why would you do such a thing? Earplugs? That's blasphemus!!!!! Your ears deserve better... like the sound of the greatest band ever!!!!! Long live DT!!!!!!
@@mOnStErMACEO I fully agree with you, but U know.. when U get (almost) old and when tinnitus begins, U have no choice and have to take care to appreciate each sounds any longer. Easy to change guitar strings, harder to get new ears or vocal chords when broken. James LaBrie could tell about that problem, unfortunately.
My thoughts exactly...saw them in Raleigh NC two weeks ago and the whole floor section stood the entire show...I was seated just behind the floor level to the side and stood as well...53yrs old...what a great show Raleigh was...this Detroit crowd was lame, with the exception of a few
there are pre-recorded lead vocals going on... not sure about lip syncing tho. It's seems james is singing along as well. 1:20 you can definitely hear it
What's up with this crowd sitting down in those close seats??? Only a few stand at end of Souls...seems shocking for Detroit....Raleigh NC crowd the entire floor level stood entire show
Its typical at a lot of these prog shows. During the Images, Words and Beyond tour at California the crowd sat during the concert, only standing during Images & Words portion. And when I attended Yngwie Malmsteen in Seattle, the majority of the crowd sat during the openers and the rest of the setlist. And during the DT concert it was really tame at Seattle this year. We stood, but it was at an arena and not a hall or theatre. So the seats really sucked 😂 And honestly? At the California show, a kid next to me was head banging and holding the rails the entire concert, and got asked by security legitimately to calm down like a dozen times. I didn’t mind. I love DT. So it was nice to see someone else enjoying it too.
Also JP was fired up and fed off the Raleigh crowd at the end of this, it was the Happiest I've ever seen him on stage. Definitely made the bands night the crowd was so into it.
Lol I don’t get why he’s getting so much hate for it. It’s a backing track. His live singing is still in the front. They no longer have 2 guys in the band that can sing backup. So they probably do it just to beef up the big moments.
I don't see anything wrong with that, he still sang his lower note part, and he did his best to deliver the song. And age is not a curse, everyone experiences it and we can see that part to appreciate instead.
well, it's not that bad and for the ones that says " he doesen't sing in the concerts" he uses pre recorded vocals for the secondary "melody" while he do the low part
That concert format, with the entire audience seated, I don't quite like it, it makes the audience less warm and interact less with the band. Ese formato de concierto, con todo el publico sentado, no me termina de gustar, hace que el publico sea menos calido e interactue menos con la banda.
@@untethered_ If that is true, it shouldn't have affected his voice.Bronchitis would but his voice doesn't sound hoarse. James just has some bad habits of slurring words throughout his singing career. His pitch control is usually good.
His vocals were outstanding considering this is the first tour in a while. Try singing 90 minutes 5 nights a week for 6 weeks. The softer the song, the harder it is to control.
definitively a band without soul , playing for very few people in a boring concert , I do not know what has to happen for them to realize that they have become everything that they are not . The fall of one of the coolest bands I've ever heard. It sucks what they did with their music...
That transition from About to Crash to Ministry was sexy 🔥
Good to see Mangini playing on kind of normal drum set. Without cymbals hanging on the second floor.
Indeed. Even though, it´s weird to see that drum set up without a second bass drum =S
It was iconic though

19:40 drum so amazing!!!
Finalmente mangine parou com a mania de colocar peças da batera no alto, isso compromete a performance e interação com o público.

Whatever venue this is sounds incredible. Way better than the hockey rink in SLC. So much sound gets lost in those arenas

2021, 2002, 2007 .
Six Degrees of inner turbulence
it's a medley of 3 songs:
Invisible Monster - About to Crash - Ministry of Lost Souls
Are the crowd alive?
Seated audience right in front of the stage?
the animation behind them looks like coming from a Doctor Strange movie !
Mangini using single bassdrum instead of double bassdrums?
The crowd sitting at a Dream Theater concert.

has nothing to do with the pandemic. Saw DT in 2014 already seated in a theater in Berlin. Same goes for Opeth in 2015 on the Evolution XX Tour.
