Any suggestions on triggering a Emad on the bass drum? The plastic outside ring seems to be a problem, should i just cut a small portion out for the trigger?
Actually this a time when I would recommend A Pintech RS-5 or a Yamaha DT20. They are stick on triggers that you then keep in place with a trigger trap from Pintech, or a good Gaff Tape Square. Not too much tape. Just enough to double secure it to the Bass Drum head. Works like a charm.
Hi Kenny. Another superb video bro. what settings would you recommend for tom triggers? Is there somewhere you can direct me to learn more about this? This is the first video I've found that goes into the setting part of the SPDsx for tweaking the triggers. Cheers bud. P.S. just totally re-skinned my drums and thanks to your tunning vids they sound awesome. Topman!
oli baxendale wow thanks. I’m happy to hear my videos helped. I will be doing a whole bunch of videos on triggering soon. Yamaha’s new triggers are pretty cool as are Pintech’s dot triggers. Awesome for toms.
Where would you put the Pintech triggers on toms, head or shell? I‘m asking because I find the Roland triggers to dampen the Tom heads in a weird way that I don‘t like. Thank you in advance
Quick question i have a 6ply maple 1980 ludwig kit 14 16 18 how would i go for a similar sound to todd sucherman I already use remo Clear ambassador tops and bottom I want them to sound low but not to low but not to high slight pitch bend
Thanks for the question. If you want a slight pitch bend naturally i recommend using a minor 3rd interval between the batter (root) to batter (minor 3rd above the root). As far as low bit not too low id start with the 18" as low as the top head can go without wrinkles, then tune that head a half (or whole) step up from there as 16" and 18" floor toms can often occupy similar tuning ranges. Then tune the 16" a major 3rd up from the 18" and the 14" a minor 3rrd up from the 16". Basically a Major triad. Start there and adjust to what your ear is looking for.
It is annoying to hit a Tom and your snare triggers, I have the ROLAND Spd-Sx and a Octapad Spd-30 and cross triggering always happens , I’ve spent hours messing with settings only to pretty much still have the cross triggering happen. Good drums, good mixing board , good mics, good PA/good in ear monitors then you can ditch your triggers. If your a working bar band and have different sound systems and unknown soundman from weekend to weekend etc throwing a triggers on your kit keeps your drum sound consistent which adds value to the triggers.
DrummerG agreed. Crosstalk is a bitch. The SPDSx has some great tools for controlling that aspect of triggering. Finding the balance alas is the art of programming.
This is so great, thanks for the clarity!
