Fort Boyard too which had a bit of nudity in the first series having to read clues off a naked woman, lots of lycra, cleavage, wet bouncy boobs & Melinda`s fantastic pokies. 😅

Saturday night TV with my dad and sister with a chippy tea and a bottle of pop!! Awesome!! Watched it every week!! I was 6 years old when this started in 1992!!
The lighting, the set, the music, the commentator, the suits, the games - ITV REALLY pulled out all the stops for THIS show. It looked and sounded awesome!!!! I remember it well, I watched it every weekend when I was a kid, and i absoloutely HATED sports and P.E, still do. This show was amazing, so much fun!!!
Yeah and because we didn't have the plethora of streaming services like we do now, everyone watched the same thing so it connected everybody. Even though I have a choice of endless things to watch now, I always find myself revisiting old shows like Gladiators.
Man life was so simple, holes on my school uniform from playing out all day, Bikergrove, Grange Hill, then generation game at the evening...... Art attack was my favorite though. A bar of chocolate, bag of cheese and chives walkers and a can for a quid.

Came from the Netflix doc which was brilliant. I’d forgotten just how much I watched this as a kid. Hearing the refs “TWOO!” Brought back so many great memories.
They barely even mentioned the UK series though, I hope to see a follow on documentary on why the UK version managed to be far more successful as well as hearing from the 90’s Gladiators on any behind the scenes stuff, would be cool to hear a bit on why the Sky version was a complete flop too. Would definitely do well with the success of the new series.

I grew up with divorced parents. Didnt want to leave my mum from fri night to sat night but didnt want to leave my dad on the return. Good good parents. My sat night was gladiators with a pizza and a bottle of cloudy lemon with a small dessert being pretty poor. It was the best time of my life. Silla black after.😂 please take me back x
The NIA in Birmingham made this show. Having the crowd in an atmosphere that felt like a sporting event was brilliant. The later remake by sky was terrible because it felt like a TV show on a TV set.
A show i loved as a kid and watching it with my late nan. Wonderful memories i will always cherish. It's just going to be sad when the new series airs that she won't be here to watch it with me

There wasn't anything like this before the original came along, and the way it rippled through society is a dynamic that does not exist anymore. As adults, we see things with a much more critical eye. The new series is fine, did enough to gain success, and will be improved for the new season.
When I was little my favourite gladiator was Lightening, so I called myself 'little bolt' and every saturday night my mum and dad would turn the living room into the gladiator arena so I fight alongside them. Yeah i had no friends hahaa

They did a reboot on Sky One back in 2006, predictably it was a bit pants, although the tickets I got for the new version down at the Utilita Arena next Friday were free so if the show does end up being rubbish, I've not wasted any more.
All I remember is being like a 5 to 6 year old boy and seeing Jet once do a flip and play the air guitar with her leg. All I remeber is feeling an overwhelming sense of joy and she became my favourite. Used to love it when she was on and always said she was my favourite and watched it to see her. Back then I had no clue why the hell it was. I just knew she was my favourite and why I watched... I'm now a 33 year old man and know exactly why and what it was 😂
With the reboot due any month now my missus and i were telling our 9yr old daughter about the hype of this show when we were literally her age! She cant wait for the new show so we're currently showing her this, the OG of GOAT Saturday Night TV.

I remember once a week I would go to a bakery to get a cupcake with a plastic ring with a picture of Wolf on it. I was like 5 or 6 and my mum would wait outside while I went in and after the first few times they started saving that Wolf cake for me. To say this show was a huge part of my childhood would be an understatement.
I love Gladiators and used to watched it every week. I do miss it quite a lot. I think it was one of the best game shows I have ever seen. Too bad they didnt continue or at least show it all again on tv

The music was epic and the clearly juiced up Gladiator boss lvl athletes cycling the same stuff Arnie and Stallone did. This was an epic show I loved tuning in to as a kid.
Really glad they made changes in time for the 2nd series. There were elements here than were pretty naff to say the least. The contenders outfits were shocking and the Gladiators seem almost robotic due to getting no interviews. Thankfully the producers worked hard to improve Gladiators and what was an ok and promising show here in series 1 became a great show from series 2.
At least your first series was better put together than ours. Our first looks downright primitive, compared to the second and third venues used in the States. The scoring system was wildly different, Joust (Duel) originally more closely resembled Suspension Bridge, Powerball was played on a semicircle, The pilot series didn't even HAVE uniforms, and it was shot in a damned horse barn!
The pedestals were too far apart in Duel, the contenders could simply dodge all the hits with defensive moves to stay up there for five points. In later seasons, they moved the pedestals closer.
I used to watch Gladiators if I had a chance in Aada while my family did the weekly shopping on a Saturday in the mid 90s as a kid lol. I had a thing for Jet and especially when she was The Games Mistress on Games World.

For those that were unaware, Nicola greased her legs and undid her shoelaces for The Wall event, which made Scorpio unable to get a grip on her. Fortunately (for the Gladiator), Scorpio was able to get revenge in the semis.

This was not revealed until the video tapes went on the market of series 1 footage, but the reason Scorpio slipped off her contender was that the contender had greased her legs and her shoes were loose.
Don't let the intro fool you, it has a lame 70 vibe theme, but the show is GREAT! The Gladiators are fun, the crowd seems to be having a BLAST! The music is totally geared to the events in the show, when they play, Another One Bites The Dust when a contestant fails etc.
Not expecting much. They ruined the Robot Wars reboot by making it too much like Battlebots (the US version). Part of its charm were the British changes, like the background music.

For those that were unaware, Nicola greased her legs and undid her shoelaces for The Wall event, which made Scorpio unable to get a grip on her. Fortunately (for the Gladiator), Scorpio was able to get revenge in the semis.
She also made no attempt to attack in duel and stayed in her own end in Hang-Tough. Leading to future rule changes in these events as well.
She should have been disqualified for cheating. Especially with that butch mushroom hairdew.

They don't make shows like this anymore. Gladiators was the best ever back in the day.

Don't let the intro fool you, it has a lame 70 vibe theme, but the show is GREAT! The Gladiators are fun, the crowd seems to be having a BLAST! The music is totally geared to the events in the show, when they play, Another One Bites The Dust when a contestant fails etc.

Not expecting much. They ruined the Robot Wars reboot by making it too much like Battlebots (the US version). Part of its charm were the British changes, like the background music.
