  • Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with the Legendary Pat Boone
    About Harvey's guests:
Today’s special guest, Pat Boone, is a legendary and beloved member of Hollywood royalty who’s been entertaining the world since he became a superstar teen idol in the 50’s.
In a stratospheric career spanning over 7 decades, he’s recorded over 2600 songs and had 38 Top 40 hits, spending 220 consecutive weeks with at least one song on the Top 40 charts, and selling close to 50 million records worldwide, earning 6 Grammy nominations.
According to Billboard magazine, our guest currently ranks at number 10 on its list of the top recording artists of all time, and he holds the world record for being the recording artist with the longest career on the music charts - over 70 years! He’s starred in 29 Hollywood movies, including “April Love”, “State Fair”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, “All Hands on Deck” and many more.
Throughout his career he has hosted a number of popular TV shows. In fact, in 1957 he became the youngest person in history to have his own weekly musical variety show, “The Pat Boone Chevy Showroom”. He’s also a #1 best selling author who’s written a staggering 28 autobiographical and motivational books.
And he currently stars in 2 nationally syndicated radio shows, “The Pat Boone Hour” on SiriusXM’s ‘50s Gold channel 72, as well as a contemporary gospel music show that airs on a number of radio stations across America. Our guest has been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. And he is one of only a handful of iconic celebrities to have THREE stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for being a Recording artist, one for making Motion Pictures, and one for starring on Television.
And if all of that weren’t enough, our guest is a renowned humanitarian. He’s been National Spokesperson for the March of Dimes, the National Association of the Blind, and as Entertainment Chairman for the National Easter Seals telethon for 18 years, he helped raise over $600 million for the disabled. His own Cambodian relief organization formed in 1979, “Save The Refugee Fund,” which became “Mercy Core”, currently operates in 40 countries and so far, they have delivered over 1.3 billion dollars worth of food and supplies to the needy. He also created “Pat Boone World Missions”, which provides vitally needed resources and assistance in Africa.

I am constantly asked which were my favorite interviews. That's a hard question to answer, because every guest has brought something special to the show, and I have been so fortunate to have developed a rapport and a friendship with many of the stars who have been kind enough to appear on our show. However, without question, this comprehensive conversation with the legendary Pat Boone will always be among my favorites, for multiple reasons. First of all, his career has been nothing short of monumental. Secondly, his warmth, kindness to me and generosity of spirit prior to, during and following the interview are unparalleled. And most importantly, this man's faith, philanthropy, love for all people, and devotion to his family are truly extraordinary. We covered so many subjects in this interview: his career, Elvis, his public image, racism, the Israel-Hamas war, the divisive nature of American politics, and of course, his enduring faith in God. Yes, it's an unusually long (for our show) interview, but I hope you will grant Mr. Boone the courtesy of watching it all. He has earned our respect and deserves our full attention.

His career was 'monumental'? I dunno Harvey....he had huge hits, but his singing career was over 40 years ago. Meanwhile, stars like Streisand, Garland, Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc., -- THOSE were stars with monumental careers, and they weren't homophobes like Boone.

@DDumbrille Check out Pat Boone’s discography. His singing career continues even to this day. He didn’t have the success (in terms of big hits) that the stars you’ve mentioned had, but he has recorded many successful albums continuously throughout his career.

Mr. Boone was a little before my time (slightly). But I never had anything against the man. He always seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself and he WAS responsible for getting many great black acts much deserved recognition. I was also geared up for a big laugh when he released his heavy metal LP until I heard it and realized it is quite good for what it is. For so many decades Pat Boone has remained a dedicated family man of honesty, integrity and class. Let us not forget he gave us the beautiful and talented Debby. Overall a very remarkable and admirable American family.

This is for the YOUNGER people who are tuning in - that were not around back then: Just to shine a bit of perspective..... Pat Boone was the nice wholesome singer that the parents would approve of . At the same time ; ELVIS was despised by parents (and grandparents) as "loud , noisy , offensive". To any viewers in the U.K. Cliff Richard was not even a "thing" in the USA until his mid-1970s hits . Cliff Richard was sorta Englands composite of both Elvis and Pat Boone at the time. TRIVIA because I am in the business of antiques and collectibles: Pat Boone has a LOT of merchandise from back in the day: charm bracelets , novelties , school supplies , drinking glasses, etc. By the time the Beatles arrived - they wiped everyone else off the map !

The only thing I don't like about this interview is that it doesn't have 10,000 likes and 10,000 views by now. You've basically covered the history of popular music here Mr. Brownstone. I was pretty amazed at Mr. Boone's recall of events and details and songs. I'm 68 and I can't remember what I had for dinner last night lol. Thank you for recording this for us and for posterity. I wish my mom were here to watch it. She was a real 50s "chick", she looked like Marilyn Monroe and had a gang called "The Rebellettes" and she loved loved loved loved Pat Boone. This was pure gold. Just a thought, I would so love, as many would I'm sure, if you would be able to interview Connie Francis. She is a lifelong favorite of mine and my family's also. I saw her in concert over 30 years ago in Fort Lauderdale (where the boys are! LOL) and when she sang "Mama" to her mother who was sitting in the front row, the audience went absolutely berserk. In fact, I wrote a review of her music and included that event in it and she had her secretary get in touch with me saying it was one of the nicest things she had ever read about herself. I was lucky enough to meet her a few years ago on my birthday and have some pictures taken with her. She's incredibly gracious, and she's definitely of that time of Mr Boone also. Forgive me for rambling on lol. Wonderful wonderful wonderful as always! ❤️

Harvey, you've done it AGAIN. Are you me? You always seem to zoom in on my small selection of favorite people. Pat Boone, it just figures you would be into him. Harvey, Harvey, Harvey.
Well, Pat has certainly got it together and is still in full command of everything at 90. I liked your question when you asked if it had bothered him at the time when everyone typed him with that goody-goody glass of 'chocolate' milk personality? Pat said he usually says no but he'll tell you yes! Jimmy Stewart's words of swallow it all, and don't attempt to change who you are and you will be a success is everything. I may have done questionable things in my life, but I am most comfortable with someone who projects an idealistic, non threatening personality. Good? Yes, please! I just saw Pat Boone as someone very charming who I could look up to and admire which I feel I need. Elvis, Pat's flip side friend, such a cutting edge performer, while certinly interesting, I don't rparticularly grab on to or relate to. (Of all the rock & roll people we are both Peter Noone fans. He brings joy & happiness. I want to be his friend where other artists, I likely do not feel a personal connection to in liking their music. But WHEN will you be interviewing Petula Clark? I know you like her!)
So once upon a time Pat DID say his favorite movie was APRIL LOVE! Get it together, Pat! All that talk about his refusing to kiss Shirley Jones because he was a married man... I have seen AL a million times, but now I'm questioning, 'Did he or didn't he?' Pat says his first kiss was with willing and egar Ann Margret in State Fair. If Pat did kiss Liz Tempelton in April Love it was but a peck while the Ann Margret shirtless kiss was more sensual. What about that, Pat Boone?
Upshot, Pat Boone is just HOME to me. Below is a comment where someone is saying anyone would want to be interviewed by you. Agree. In listening it adds so much to know the host really is a big fan of the person being interviewed. You come prepared with full knowledge and that is because you actually are that fan. Thank you for the opportunity to visit Pat in full as he is today. It is unlikely I would not be getting that opportunity anywhere else. What I know about Harvey Brownstone is I can count on you!

Pat Boone wept at her funeral. Later he said his daughter and god couldn’t overcome the self esteem destroyed by Karen’s hideous family 😢. Agnes carpenter never once visited Karen at the hospital in New York. Pat Boone and many of her friends were shocked and angered by Karen’s neglectful and hateful family. She was all alone.
