Hi Gina . Yeah they always tip over when they hit the grass . LOL Great flying and landings with the Hurricane . We can see the improvement all this practice has brought . Glad you're having fun . Cheers .
Gina wow your own field of dreams, Gina if you build it it will fly 😊 well in most cases hey ? good fun flying Gina , nice hurricane and I hope my hurricane flys as well as yours , thanks another good video, from Tony from Bedfordshire
That was fab! The 2nd landing was perfectly straight, with no wobble or apparent compensation. The flaps do work well, good verisimilitude in flight for the size of the thing, but I can't help thinking that a lot of the good stuff is more down to you than Dynam, as many people see these things as lost causes and would've pranged it properly in a partial spirit of resignation. Well done for keeping on! Of course we all know that there are and have been issues with Dynam, but I'm no expert. I WOULD note, hwvr, that "DYNAM" is an anagram of "Y?! DAMN!!", that's all. Nice one Gina! 🌟👍
Haha! Thanks, William! I often wonder why I struggle on with this Hurricane... and then I get it airborne and it looks absolutely fabulous! I do always say "Never give up on a model" so I've made a rod for my own back. I even have another one in its box should the worst happen. Masochist, or what? - but a complete absence of a Hurricane model in the 1.2m size in the market does limit one's choices somewhat 😄
Gina I think you did great. Got her real slow and handled that well with rudder. Not easy. I'm glad the gap is helping line it up. I bet the Geo run off will stop those tip overs. Practice, practice , practice. I do it all the time, and it shows you're doing it. Nice!
Thank you, Adam! I keep wondering about covering the concrete *and* a surrounding 4 yard (or more) strip with Geo, or tough pond liner material. RC life would be so much easier with a bigger runway... 🤔🤔🤔
Haha!! What seems to have happened is this: before the runway, I could hardly get any of the warbirds off the rough ground. Then, cometh the concrete man to churn up all the ground around the smooth runway. Now, I can't land on the even rougher ground (or even the smooth runway!)... it's the polar opposite of what I had. We are going to get the rough ground graded and re-sown, but Norfolk mañana means we're still waiting for a quote 😄
Thanks, Tug! The tip ups will always happen, as you rightly say. I have crazy thoughts in the middle of the night of buying about 100 square yards of pond liner and covering the runway and all the surrounding rough ground... 😵💫🥴🥴🙃
@@purcellrcaviationchannel 😄Great idea however the whole earth can not be made into a runway. I gave up hopes and just made most my planes STOL friendly with bigger wheels. Even with that I still get tip overs every now and then,
Hi Gina - That first landing reminded me of the aircraft carrier landings where the arrester line/hook fails - Now that might be fun - make it into a Sea Hurricane and put some bungees across the runway - could be fun !!!.... reverse thrust could help a lot once on the deck.. great seeing the approaches , spot on..... Enjoyed the fun -
Thanks, Cap'n! Yes... I do suffer the 'Dynam Gear Curse' with this Hurricane. I never give up on it, though. I'm going to modify the flaps this winter when the other builds are done, to convert the non-scale hinged flaps to a scale set of full split flaps. It should help with the landings. Hopefully.
Hey, I always enjoy your gnarly old hurricane. You really made some effort to 'land' on the runway. I don't know - but I noticed on your last pass you had two light bounces and then settled onto the runway before rolling off. And I thought . . . what if you came in a bit shorter and made those two bounces in front of the runway. Then perhaps it might settle on the near end of the runway and (cross your fingers) perhaps roll and slow to a stop before getting to the far end. ? I thought your 2nd. pass was great at getting the speed down as low as safely possible. It's too bad that one was not lined up - cause you really had it nose high and slow that time. Anyway - a grand effort ! My hurricane and I are not getting along at all. I tried again at the house to cycle the gear several times . . . and it worked every time. So, stupid me . . . at my flying site I retract the gear and, of course only one gear comes down. { Damned Dynam Retracts !!! } I set up to land in grass again, and hit the same old rough crap again, and ripped the one gear that was down right out. My air frame HAD been pristine before this. But now there are two L G gashes on the bottom. Ugggggh! So, I guess I will try other retract units in the crappy old hurricane and see what happens.
Hahaha!! Hi, JR! I'd like to replace the retract units for some E-flite ones, but that means more major surgery on the old girl. Having said that, I do have a spare wing set, so we'll see what happens long term. This winter, I'm going to do the flap modification to this Hurricane, so she has the full and scale set of flaps. Hopefully, this will slow the approaches down. Lots of happy Hurricane fettling to come. For the time being, all the ground around the concrete is too rough to land on, so I have to get any model onto the hard surface.
I'm sorry the ground just before your runway is so rough. I don't know about the cost, but I wonder if: 'indoor / outdoor carpet or artificial turf of some type might help. (Or maybe a cousin is throwing out the old carpet from their house.) ? Anyway - you are looking really good with your rudder skills & take offs !
Thanks, JR! Placing another surface onto the rough ground will only lay over the existing contours. These are big enough to throw any plane right off its course. The only answer is to have it all graded to repair the damage of the 4 ton tipper truck that delivered the concrete in the first place.
This is great…we are all here for the landings…my two cents,if you hit the short grass BEFORE the end of the runway…would this take the ‘sting’ (speed wise) outta the landing,it could then ‘run on’ onto the concrete…and just maybe…?…stop before a nose over…I’m probably talking crap, but consider it a challenge…these are great ! Cheers…I’m doing the rudder in my head on the take-offs….!
Haha! Cheers, Joel! Only the one , small fly in the ointment... the ground on the east side (away from the house) is extremely rough. Any landing on that *will* break any RC model's landing gear. For now, I'm stuck with what I've got.
@@purcellrcaviationchannel Aye,just a thought,as it’s less likely to nose over at ‘flying’ speed, but yes, more likely to rip the undercarriage off !..but,what have WE got to lose ! ?!…Ha,ha…I’m dying to seee it pull up on the apron…arrestor net ?!..You could use an old ping pong net…!
Hi Gina, Well, your takeoffs are definitely improving, so, well done. Your landing speed is still a bit hot, but that will improve with time. Your landing gear problem, are the legs jamming in the wheel well or is it something else? I've had no problems with my Hurricane landing gear, but I did strike problems with my P38 Lightning. One leg refused to work after a while. So, I removed the whole unit, undid the screws and took it a part and found a broken wire that had detached itself from the electric motor which had been poorly soldered at the factory. Once I fixed that, I put it all back together and re-installed it into the boom and it's been trouble free ever since. I got that Hawker Sea Fury and put it together. It wasn't the version depicted on the box. It was an earlier version with a 4 blade prop, just like the Flightline version. Some idiot at the factory put American markings on it and I know that no American unit ever operated the Sea Fury, so, now, I've got to re-create the British or Australian roundels and cover up the American insignia. That's going to be fun! This one also has the extra gear doors, but there was no gear door sequencer, which had my head being scratched to work out what to do. I scrolled through my DX8e programs and found a gear door sequencer, so, I got that working for the first time ever and got the extra gear doors working, so, now the gear doors and the landing gear work a treat. Just have to wait for good weather.😁 Have fun and catch up next video. Lee.
G'day, Lee! Thanks, chap! I'm at a bit of a loss with the retracts; they work in the hangar, but as soon as I walk to the runway, they stop. I suspect Demonic Possession and plan an exorcism 👿👿 I really and truly have no plans to start attempting to fiddle about with electronics as it's a 'Black Art' as far as I'm concerned... and there we are, back to Demons and the Occult! 💀 Aaarrgh!! Re: your sea Fury - how in God's name could the factory get those major details so wrong?? At least you uncovered a new ability in your DX8e! Happy days 😃
@@purcellrcaviationchannel Must be the air temperature!😂😂😂🤗 That's a mystery that's for sure. I do have another Hurricane here and it's made by a different crowd. Now that you've said what mysteriously happens, this other Hurricane has a similar problem. They work in the pits, work out on the strip, but when I get airborne they refuse to work. I tried to slow up as much as I dare and tried to retract the landing gear and it worked. When I was due to come in for landing they refused to come down. I went around and again slowed down as much as I dare and they came down. That's the pattern with that Hurricane and ever since it's the only way I can get the landing gear to work. Why, I'm not sure. It could be that Hurricane might benefit from a higher amp speedy, but I never got around to try it. It might be a silly suggestion, but when you fly your Hurricane again, get a decent amount of "safe" height and slow down and see if the landing gear works with the low power setting. If be interested to know if that works. It may not, but worth a try. Cheers.🤗
Perhaps work on the grass "over runs" at either end of the concrete. Fill any divots, make sure there is a smooth transition from concrete to grass. I think that's where the most improvement can be achieved, rather than with the approaches. 👍

Great! Excellent slow flight characteristics. These flaps are effective.🌝
Hei! I'm hoping for slower landing speeds in the future, after modifying the flaps to the same as the real aircraft.
Longer runway Gina or cut the tall grass on approach, either way excellent lineups 👍
As expensive as concrete is in the UK longer may not be a option Cliff. Her runway around here would cost 10 to 12k USD
@@tughillrc6327 I suppose you could make it twice the length and half the width 🤔😁
