    Wine and snacks are not a meal.... Taking a note here. What about a shot of good rum and some popcorn? Not a meal either? You're killing my favorite camping menus. LOL
    Good video. :)

    Thanks for posting all your stuff in the show notes! Super handy. Man, more sand-blasting out at Assateague, hunh? You got some great photos, though.

      Yeah, if you can believe it - the wind was blowing harder than the day we were there! That long shot of me walking on the beach almost didn't happen - because you know - film it once, walk it twice LOL. Glad you liked the photos! The sky was really dramatic after the storm blew through overnight.

    Another enjoyable video, Jen. I love that area. I’ve only visited once but would love to go back and camp (maybe someday). Thank you for sharing your adventures. Great quote. Keep up the good work

      Oh it would be so great to see you if you ever make it up this way! I'm pretty fortunate that this is in my "backyard" - but you've got the mountains of W. Va - which are pretty spectacular too.

      There's several explanations....the first one I heard is that they are descendants horses that ended up on the island as a result of a shipwreck that they escaped from back in the 1800s. I've also heard that they were brought to the island by early famers who tried to work the land - at some point becoming wild when farming didn't work out. That one is probably more likely but I don't know for certain. Those are the two origin stories I've heard - there may be others. In any case, they have adapted well. The national park in Maryland has to actively control the population and on the Virginia side of the island, there is an annual pony penning where they round up the horses, swim them to the mainland, and auction some of them off to keep the population manageable (and to raise money for the Chincoteague Fire Dept).

    That looks like an amazing place. I bet it’s pretty popular in the summer. I had no idea that there were wild horses that far north. I agree on the burritos. They are they way to go.

    Wow, looks like you had a great hike. I’ll check out that movie you recommended. Nothing like some time alone in nature to really let the mind settle a bit and get some perspective.
    I need to get out again soon! Getting cabin fever!

    Yeah we've had some interesting weather here in NC lately as well. Thanks for sharing this trip with us. Seeing the turkey's & wild horses would have been worth it a lone.

    We know editing can take a lot of time but can you do us a favor & leave out the music when you are talking to us? Thanks

      Hiya Seeker! Thanks as always for watching :-) Fair point about the music. Sometimes I get carried away when I'm adding in background music and this time I think I definitely had it up too loud. Sorry if that was super annoying. I'll keep this in mind for the future - thanks for the feedback.

    Enjoyed the video. I like the way you keep warm. I need too figure how too do that in a suv without burning the thing down.
    I don’t want too run my vehicle very long too waste gas.

    • @thewanderingway
      @thewanderingway  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching Michelle :-) I don't know if this would be a good solution for an SUV. You would need a very flat, stable surface. if you have that and its in a place where you won't bump it when you shift around, it could work. If you've got the ability to do a power bank and a small electric heater, that might work. But it can be a pricey option. I have a small power bank but its only 250 watts - can't run an electric heater off of it. If you're on FaceBook there are some really good groups with a ton of resources for SUV camping/SUV living.

    Love that place. Now try the state park there. Little more sheltered from the wind. By the way you’re NOT caught up on emails any longer lol.

    • @thewanderingway
      @thewanderingway  2 роки тому

      You know, I've never really explored the state side too much. I've always gravitated to the national part - but you make a good point about being more sheltered. I've got mail?! Yay! hahaha being caught up is a good feeling, but getting mail is a great one! Take care of yourself and stay warm!

    Good Morning :) I finally got my dream camper van last week - it was a real miraculous shock for sure; some news friends I've made decided to purchase me a vehicle so that I can get my life back :) My ride is a Dodge Grand Caravan with an extended roof on the top with a total standing height of about 6'. The Van is a conversion with the back seats already taken out, a shower and standing basin w/drainage hole added, solar panels on the roof, shore power A/C unit, solar powered shower, hot water heater, refrigerator, and power strip for whatever else I need to run :)
    I'm slowly moving out of my home, which is foreclosing, and into the Van, and now seeking work. Please pray for me if you will because I've been unemployed for several years now and need to find work right away so that I can pay my friends back.
