Assateague is such a cool place!!!! I live about 30 minutes from there in Salisbury, MD and visit Assateague often. There are 2 theories as to how the ponies got on the island. 1) Spanish Shipwreck 2) Farmers hid them on the island to avoid paying taxes on their livestock. Some escaped and over time thus we have these wild ponies.
Years ago we backpacked Assateague Island on the beach was wonderful. No people for 15 miles on the beach! Only saw ponies, red fox little sea crabs wonderful trip.
Yo Kelly Hayes, I locked myself out of my daughter's car last week in MANHATTAN. She was in town on business, so I took her car uptown to run in Central Park. Took her key off keychain and left key remote in car. Turns out, the key did not work. 2 hours later and $150 for locksmith, I was back in car. AAA sucks, turns out the owner of the car HAS to be present for AAA's locksmith to get door open. Luckily, her insurance company was great and sent a locksmith within 45 mins. So yeah, I felt your pain.
I spent alot of time out there. Just walking the beach north from there you can walk along the shore for hours. Very nice wilderness area. There are ALOT of mosquitos there in the spring time though.
I've lived in Virginia since 1968 and have never been to the Eastern Shore, so thank you for the tour. Now I really want to go. Just wish it was on the way to something. Oh, and next time call the locksmith first!
The field of white birds you passed were most likely snow geese given the time of year you visited there. Their migration is amazing to watch and so beautiful!!!!
You need to get a spare key and hide it somewhere obscure under the van or behind the grill... I used to store a coat hanger under the hood to break into my 72 Chevy Nova via the "smoker's window". Whatever works. Modern cars now have a pin number to enter by pushing buttons to unlock the car. Just remember... you only get locked out of your own car "once".
James had USAA so they did it for free, but you’re right! I do need it! The thing is I’m not in normal life long enough to make it worth it right now. Once I’m done Thru hiking i will likely invest in that
@@kellyhays23 I'm happy to hear you got it free. A AAA card can also get you a lot of discounts at hotels too. So even when you are hiking a few 5% or 10% discounts on hotel rooms can help justify a AAA membership. 👍
Hey there , great video on Assateague camp ⛺️ life! Love it! Just a couple of questions: 1. How was your Wi-Fi Internet connection? 2. How much did the campsite cost at Assateague? 3. I saw that there was a fire ring at your campsite, was there any other amenities or hook ups, electric water, etc. thank you so much for the information. You guys are awesome.! Also, I seriously need to know where you were able to score that Grateful Dead coat/ hoodie… it is just beautiful!
I have driven my Jeep on that beach from North A.I. 16 miles south to the Virginia line on the beach. Winter time is nice , in the summer the biting bugs will eat you alive
Hey Kelly and Toasty! You can so tell you are from the South. We have tons of tunnels that go under the water up here! Boston even has one that goes under the entire city and water! I miss visiting Assateague, we went a bunch growing up. There are very few places like it. Anyone that hasn’t gone to the beach in the winter you gotta go, it’s such an amazing experience. Thank you for the Quack toasty! It totally made the moment! I can’t wait for you guys to be on the PCT, it is going to be epic! 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful
@@kellyhays23 that section of the country has some very cool roads. I hope you get to visit them (and make some cool videos too!) be well and thanks again for the amazing content 🙏
I *think* the Grayson Highland ponies were brought over from Chincoteague Island. The Maryland Assateagers claim that the Virginia ponies aren't all the original one's though. That's how it goes down here.
My wife and I van camped at Assateague last Fall! Wonderful time. Hey, driving across the bay, and into those tunnels, was really something, right? Glad you had a good time.
Hey Kelly, good to see you and the toast again. This trip was jam packed with different stuff. Great wild life from turkeys to pony's! I can't believe those pony's just live and cruse around that area. I have never seen wild pony's up close and I was wondering why you didn't get out and pet one? Is it not allowed or will they bite and kick the $h#t out of you? I don't think I could have resisted and would have to get out and pet one. Anyway, cool video and thanks for taking us along.
I just love the two of you together and James even talk on this one.🤣🤣💞
He’s slowly warming up to the camera 😂
You guys are sooo CUUUTE! Kelly, you LIGHT UP when you're with him!
He is such a blessing to my life! 😊☺️ really lucky to have found eachother on trail!

^^^ spot on! That’s what we learned at the visitors center.
Looking forward to y’all’s PCT adventure !!
I am so excited!!!
Best thing about camping in the winter hardly anyone else does, well accept your true camping fanatics, God bless y'all.
On the bright side, you now know that your van isn't easily broken into.
A rock will get in quickly....

that sounds incredible
The "watch pocket" on 5 pocket jeans is perfect to hold spare keys. This little precaution saves a lot of trouble. Good Luck, Rick
You have a spare key in all your jeans? Lol
@@aaronfuentes5919 Three keys. Just move them to the jeans I'm wearing.
maybe stich them into my shoes, thanks@@richardross7219

It’s weird not seeing you walking up the side of a mountain.
So nice to see Toasty again! Those camp sites looked awesome, but, the snow in Richmond!
Good to see you both safe and well and enjoying life.
Great to see you guys again! I was waiting the entire video for Toasty to let out a quack 🦆😅😅

Exciting wildlife, turkeys, horses and I’m sure other birds!👍🏼

Are you gonna go back for the "Swimming of the Ponies" from Chincoteague?
It's good to see your real life videos. Congrats on finishing the AT.

Don't ever cross the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel when it's windy!
That’s what toasty was telling me! Sounds so scary!
One of my favorite places.

Hide a key under the van, somewhere you can find it….

Bring mosquito spray and a screen for summer there

there is like 2k fine if they see you petting the ponies ahahaha
Well, 2 grand would deter me from petting a small horse. I see why you didn't do it.

quack..
Assateague in the summer is not pleasant. Insect populations are huge, especially the biting kind. It's great in May so go then if you go.
thanks for the tip! i actually remember reading about that in the visitor center
For sure a lot of insects in the summer I agree
Pretty nice in September, tried to catch one of the rocket launches but kept delaying beyond my 3 day stay.
