I thought this was a sketch for his final show because he got cancelled back in the day or something lol. The ending did feel like he was actually saying goodbye lmao
I remember seeing this on tv as a kid and thinking it was brilliant. I've searched for it on the internet many times but with no success. Finally, 22 years later, it pops up in my recommended videos.
I remember this one! I think when they came back from commercial, the set and the audience was back to normal and everyone acted like nothing had happened. It was so funny!
That's interesting, I always wondered if this was a bit for the end of a series where they intended to change the shows set as they did for many years. But I guess not then if they brought it all back. When he got rid of the little room looking set in the corner, and had the traditional skylines and what looked to be bigger, things started feeling right. He was still funny in that first desk and backdrop but it looked like something from a PBS show.
If you are long time Conan fan, you might know that Conan has tough days for first 3-4 years by network an critics. And since you know that, this comedy bit is genuine conquest of his past struggles. It's sad, but other side, beauty of him. Love you CONAN! :)
He actually called his real brother and talking in code, told him that the Feds fell for the trap. The old 5 year, imposter brother con. Easiest way to flush out the rats. An Irish classic.
Back in college, I had a VHS tape that I'd use to record these segments after the first commercial but before the first guest. I'd rewind and record over the last night's section if I didn't like it enough. Needless to say, the tape is full of amazing bits. This, and the embryonic, polka-doted, rockabilly fighter-pilots song, were among the most prized of my recorded segments.

Watching this one skit not only reminds me of how great the humor of the NBC Late Night era was but also helps me realize that the current half hour TBS era is a return to form of sorts to this level of comedy. Also, this skit would’ve made for a killer end to the Late Night era 11 years ago.
Turd Ferguson Welp, the President has been on a pardoning spree of old convictions lately. I bet if you added famous celebrity Conan O’Brien’s brother to the list, it wouldn’t even raise an eyebrow.

And from that day forward, no one ever heard from Conan O'Brien again. Some swear that if one listens hard enough, one can still hear the uncomforable chuckles in his now abandoned studio...
Is the Black FBI arresting agent, Dennis Haysbert? That voice is pretty much unmistakeable. Also, this is my favorite late night bit of all time. Simple idea but incredibly well executed.
Oh man, imagine if they'd have saved this idea for whenever Conan ends up retiring his show. This would be a god-tier ending.
That would have been glorious
Im probably wrong but this might have been when he got canceled from NBC

Andy could definitely pass for an FBI office worker.
Exactly. If they all look like the Rock, the FBI would be screwed.
What makes you think he was lying?
He did play a double agent in an episode of "Chuck" (he was a member of The Ring).
Plus his brother Rocky Richter is already a undercover agent
"Cooperman. Nick Cooperman" Even that was convincing!

I love Conan’s personality. It can go from being a deranged, narcissistic egomaniac to a self-hating joke in the blink of an eye.
throw in "delightfully wholesome" in there somewhere also.

Definitely. They totally went all out on this one
I admire the full commitment from everyone involved.
