    I have also included my Fractal Audio FM3 preset that I used on the recording.
    Here is one of my favorite solos from Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, The Final Cut. The fingerings are my suggestion based upon what I think sounded the best sonically. Feel free to experiment with what works best for you!

    Gilmour doesn’t like the Final Cut, but this and the Fletcher Memorial Home are two of his finest solos, IMO.

      You beat me to it, although it's the 'Possible Pasts' solo that always gets me, especially that "swoon" he drops at 3:00 or so; its aggressiveness hints at the animosity which was said to have pervaded between them. Point is: that album is FULL of devastating Gilmour solos, which is why it's one of my fave Floyd albums.

      @@toki9367 @toki9367 It's very good - you nailed the tone (and I don't recall ever seeing a Telecaster with that kind of tailpiece). But, yeah, you missed the "swoon" I'm talking about - didn't even attempt it! - which should be at 0:26 (your linked vid), but I guess that's what you're apologizing for.

      @@xianshep Yeah, I tried to personalized it a little bit, you know, it's impossible to emulate DG 100%, and to be honest I do not even try to do it...I try to add a bit of personal touch, at least some nuances...thank you though!

    Gilmour has said on multiple occations that his process in PF was to record a great number of licks over the different chords, in different octaves, and then cut and paste them together. I think that is a genius way to do it. Improvisation is just orchestration in the moment and by cutting and pasting improvised segments you can make the most wonderful music (that you can then play around with!). Especially if you are confident enough to rest on the important notes (yes that is aimed at all the shredders out there). That is, I think, why David Gilmour is the greatest lead guitarist ever.

    Thank you for spelling out the chords and how the notes float around the chord changes, like how the A note is the root of A minor and then becomes the major third of F major through the chord change. Enlightening.

    Great tone your getting- somehow creating a rake sound as you attack the notes (without actually raking it appears). Thank you!

    I love your content too, Jeff. I'm loving your Pentatonic Deep Dive on Truefire as well. Your solos, ideas, and phrasing are impeccable. You're an incredible player, but you're also a top-class educator that really delivers the most important concepts in a way that your students can really understand them and feel them. Liked. Subscribed, Notificated (if that's even a word)

    One of the Saddest guitar solosin the history of guitar solos. The song has such a helpless ,hopeless feel to it and Gilmour pulls your guts out with every note. I too learned it but never bothered to figure out the progression though it was obviously in F.Thanks for the deep dive off the diving board for this one! Note:Normally a major key has a happier sound to it! The loss of John Lennon was definitely felt in the sadness of this track and the anger in "Not Now John".

    So good, absolutely agree, The Final Cut is my favorite album after Animals too! They're on a par for me really. Dave's most emotive playing on these albums in my opinion. Apparently Dave didn't like The Final Cut much.... For me the The Final Cut album is an epic emotional masterpiece from beginning to end. so powerful

    I've always loved The Final Cut. I think people dismiss it too quickly because there aren't as many exciting and in-your-face Gilmour moments. But it has some of my favorite Pink Floyd songs on it.

    Hi Jeff. This is awesome and so helpful. I've been using this video and practicing - it's finally coming along. How are you nailing the sound so perfectly (aside from awesome technique?). I have a few toys - the Bias FX2, Boss GT-1 and Keeley Dark Side. Closest I am getting is with the Bias FX2, albeit artificial. Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed! Rock on...

    Dude! I love your teachings, but you drift off from the lesson. The end of the solo becomes a mystery. I get that he’s cord following, but that is what you are concentrating on rather than a lesson. Just saying

    • @JeffMcErlain
      @JeffMcErlain  2 роки тому

      I appreciate you watching. The lesson is about outlining chord tones. That is the lesson I am teaching through the solo. I’ve provided tab for the solo so if you only want the notes and how to play it, there it is. The lesson is what the thought process is an why it sounds so good. The notes that he plays on the chord IS the lesson.
