Dawn played with the boys while in high school and she had three brothers. She always played tough and wasn't afraid of contact. I loved watching her at UVA and her game translates in any era. She got that DAWG in her!!!
Out of all her abilities, the thing that impressed me the most is at 5' 6" how she would challenge and defeat much bigger girls down in the paint. I'm not just talking about on fast breaks but actually facing them up or with them at her back. I also liked the fact that we wore the same number.
Came right here to get those memories. Most of us been rocking with NCAA WBB since forever. Not sure where this narrative about suddenly the sport is popular. Must be new to a few ppl but not the numbers they think
@@columbusohio72 @james7985 Only GOD knows where the asymmetrical hairdo started. It was strictly an African American/Black woman style! Look up actress Taraji P. Henson 1988 Grad photos. She had it and was living in the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia area)
North Philly, Dobbins Tech high school, she played at the same school with Bo Kimble, Hank Gathers and other Philly legends, she use to play against the boys because the girls couldn't keep up with her she really was that good of a player as you can see. Dawn Staley!!!!
Dawn Staley having an undefeated regular season, and winning the NCAA Championship brought me here. Only the 5th head coach in NCAAWBB to have done so. She really is phenomenal!
She is the reason i wore 24 in high school since i couldnt get 23 for jordan being from Chicago. Then years later it was perfect when kobe switched to 24,him being jordan's little brother, then when he passed the number 24 means more to me for her and him and they both having philly roots
Staley would beast today, I watched a lot of the games and barely any of the players can use their off hand. She’s doing both, pulling fade away jumpers, etc… and got some handles/quickness.
Dawn was a beast she didn't care what size you were she was coming to the paint or she was pulling that jump shot...and the thing i like most they didn't do any taunting they just played ball 🏀🏀🏀 the women from this rea could learn from them!!!!!
My grandmother stayed around 23rd Cumberland in north Philly around the corner from Dobbins. She would be at the basketball courts ballin with us lol. Little thing was tough too
Her ability to QUICKLY create scoring opportunities for herself and others ESPECIALLY over defenders who had 6+inches on her, is STILL something many can't do like she could. A true generational talent!
I may not be a fan of her right now (mainly because of her team), but I will say she and her 96' Olympic team was the first time I was introduced to women's basketball, and how that group then went into the newly formed WNBA. So it was kind of cool seeing a new league and following players I had just watched in the Olympics (Lisa Leslie, Dawn, Rebecca, etc).
She would have been a beast in todays game. back in the day, they didn't have handles as they do now, I see so many girls/women ages 9years old to college, wnba ages with handles. Back in the day, you didnt see a lot of that. Dawn would have been a beast in todays game as well.
This is what heart and love for the game and competing actually looks like. Nobody sliding all over the floor after every shot. And shot selection from anywhere on the floor instead of a just a dunk or 3.
LEGENDARY ATHLETE AND THE RIGHT ADVOCATE FOR INVESTMENT PARITY IN COLLEGE BASKETBALL FOR WOMEN!! SOUTH CAROLINA SELLS OUT TICKETS ALMOST EVERYWHERE AND THAT’S THE BOTTOM LINE!!$$ GAME KNOWS GAME.
Tough competitor with polished skills, shooting and left and right hand dribbling and driving skills. She was one of the best for the time that she played including internationally with 3 Olympic gold medals. She was very quick and played very smart. I did think that it would be difficult for a player 5 ft 6 to get shots off on the inside like she did with todays taller more athletic bigs in women's NCAA basketball.

Here Dawn Staley is the 🐐
I am 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🏀🏆❤
Dawn had that Salt-N-Pepa asymmetrical hairdo that was huge in the late 80s early nineties.
Yes she did
That hair was straight Philly !
The hair had nothing to do with philly. It was new york

😂😂 1st thing I noticed
Quickness, finesse, footwork, speed agility, basketball I.Q. all off the charts! Dobbins Tech’s Hoops Superstar
Lol. They hate her. And we know who and why...
@@jagbrit3723I would hate us too lol so much greatness
She showed out in the 96’ Olympics. That was the women’s version of the men’s 92’ dream team
Facts
She was tough!💪🏾💯
I loved watching her in her prime. She was so fun to watch.
She was and still is my favorite women's player of all time and she's coaching my second favorite player Zia Cooke
Zia cooke a beast!
I became a hugh Destanni Henderson fan. She and Cooke was one of my favorite guard tandems. I actually enjoyed the entire team.
She is and still is one of my personal top 5 point guards ever, male or female.
Shes a clown, Caitlin Clark is 10x better than her or anyone else.
Mine too.
She has an amazing release.

The pride of Dobbins Tech and North Philly! Keep up the good work Dawn. We love you!!!
I remember watching her play back then and she was nothing to play with. Teams game planned around her play and still couldn't stop her.
She would eat up every body

Hung out with Dawn back in 96 at the Under Ground Railroad Jazz Cafe! She came to see our band play and was so cool and down to earth!!!!!!
Dawn was so cold!!!! That team was dope. Tammy Reiss and the Burge twins down low……… Classic Material!!!!
The Goat 🐐
Dawn was absolutely the best!!
Who else is finding out Staley had this kind of game, fresh from winning her 3rd chip as a coach?!
🙋🏽♀️
I remember my brother in law telling me how he played against her in the little playground behind Dobbins...she beat him bad...lol
So blessed and a gift to have grew up with her n her brothers she's the truth shay 😊
Posting up at 5’6 let that sink in lol 🐐
Incredible finisher at the basket for her size. Dawn was Incredible
This video made me love her even more, if that's even possible.
Coach was nice I like how she took what the defense gave her every possession
DS, playing down in the paint at 5'6" in a dominate fashion too? Outstanding!!!
Staley would beast today, I watched a lot of the games and barely any of the players can use their off hand. She’s doing both, pulling fade away jumpers, etc… and got some handles/quickness.
She is not human….
Wow, I never knew she had skills like that!
The very first time I seen her play, I was on her the whole time.
She was even great in the wnba
Oh she was like that 💪🏾
Dawn was so skilled, I loved watcher her back in day. 5’6” too !
Staley is my fav player EVER. I channeled her on the court when I would play, even down to the hair. Just amazing all around regardless of her size. 🐐
She was the cold Lil cutie pie with GAME!!🏁💯🔥
Amazing Amazing Ballislife I love it, Dawn Staley really iconic, did not know she was so freaking Elite in The Hardware, Heart of a Giant

This is why she has built SC up because she didn't play unpredictable....when you play like a winner, you just are
Her “J” was butter!
Wow she was awesome
That's how these new players need to play. I used to love old school basketball games💯😱❤️
She 5'4 posting people up DAWN STALEY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

She was awesome quick, fast and determined 3 championships as a coach unbelievable.
Dawn as a beast out there! I'm so happy she is the leader here in Sc for our basketball team !!
One of my favorites!
She was such a small guard compared today and for sure a Big dawg on the court . Shot so pure 🏀
I remember here in college when I was in middle school now I’m feeling old
Reminds me a little of Mahmoud Abdul Rauf (aka Chris Jackson ≈ LSU 1990)
That was ana amazing team! Dawn and Tammi Reiss in the backcourt and the Burge twins on the interior! Goodness gracious!
Staley was NICE!
Her and Tammi Reiss were an underrated back court 👍

Who came here after South Carolina won the championship
She was a monster on the court her teammates were good as well
Not gone lie she had the spin and finished with the other hand was tuff at 1:28 ✍️
