Something that's really appealing about your channel is that most (if not all) of your video thumbnails have a solid background and the title of what you'll be talking about in the video clearly on them. I've noticed that those videos make me want to click on them more, and thus are more successful in advertising their content.

Upcoming video! I actually filmed something about my mascot but left it out for timing and because it didn't really fit this theme. Mascots are fertile ground for discussion, this was just about their importance. Stay tuned, though!

This came out back in 2016, and it's still true. -I need to come up with something better than this sonic recolor I created back in middle school-
Muigio44 try taking your current vibe and looking at colors that match it. Then find an animal or shape or thingy that also fits the vibe and maybe the colors. Try matching shape language to color language.
I really want to be some type of youtuber in the future, and I've been studying more popular youtubers to see what they did right. Definitely noticed that mascots are important for ANY type of channel, be it gaming, instructive, artistic, or anything else. I'm grateful for videos like this explaining WHY though. And I think I can trust your advice seeing as I clicked on your videos above the rest on three separate occasions without even realizing :')
It's kind of funny how I'm just seeing your video now and I inadvertedly took your advice a long time ago prior to seeing this. It's still wonderful advice and I honestly didn't consider any of this when I got my mascot. In fact, a friend of mine drew it for me and I just went with it. It definitely reflects what my channel is about, "anti-Nazi/anti-religion" rants from a dude with good editing software but crap equipment. But you convinced me to use my mascot more often, so I will use it in every video I make from this point forward! You also got a new subscriber from yours truly. Keep it up, I love your videos on character design and world building.
Useful information. Been thinking about developing a video game. A mascot would do wonders, at least to a certain degree. We'll see what happens.

This is very helpful. I think a mascot would help. I don't have much, but at least I had a mascot. It is Meethees. She is the little green guy I have in my avatar picture. I started out using a pony. Ponies are very popular on the internet. There are even men that like ponies. So many people use ponies as thier mascot on UA-cam. Then I hear the advice to break the mold, and be more creative. Using another pony can make one blend in. So it does help to use a different animal. I know of examples. Tyandaga uses a reindeer. Silver quill uses a hippogriff. Dr. Wolf uses a wolf. Lilly Orchard uses a human. I make up my own fantasy creature, which is a mix of different things. So I use that as a mascot. The color scheme of green body and grey hair is still maintained. I get into fantasy. So a supernatural creature gets that across. I also like to have something cute, because that is an important part of my art style.

For mascots, would it be fine to just have a cartoon version of yourself? Channels like Theodd1sout comic and Jaiden Animations use themselves in a stylized cartoony form as their channel mascots and it seems to be working for them.
SBroproductions I'd say certainly. Another big example of someone who does that is Egoraptor, so it's definitely worth trying.

having my pikachu be my mascot may be cleshed but i'm hoping that the personality sets him and I apart from the rest.
The problem is, Pikachu is already a mascot. Unless you're joking. It's hard to tell on the internet.
Pink Wings someone had a clefa as theirs. the j wittz has a hoppip for his. pikapety is a demented Pikachu. I have spent decades teaching my Pikachu every move in the book and a couple we've developed together. we want to show them off in a series we're planning called the compendium of Pokemon moves.
The artist Happy's Cafe has a Gengar as her mascot. And that works in my opinion 👌
I recommend researching rodents and other small small mammals. Then you can design your own electric critter. That is more creative than using Pikachu, which is already the mascot for Pokemon. I think creativity can help one stand out. Personally I like to use a chipmunk. A chipmunk is such a beautiful animal. It would make a great mascot. A chipmunk is adorable, and that has a special charm. It also has nice black and white stripes. That reminds me of an electric creature. So I can have a chipmunk with the stripes. It is yellow instead of brown. I add a big fluffy tail, like a tree squirrel. I had that as a base. I recently redesigned creatures. I did take my idea of electric chipmunk and took it further. I added in other stuff to make it look cooler. I am going for a cool fancy legendary creature. Alvin and the Chipmunks has chipmunks in it already. However they are so heavily stylized, they are not even recognizable as chipmunks. They could be any rodent, and it would still fit. The exception for this is the new live action movies. The chipmunks are more realistic and recognizable as chipmunks. When I do a stylized chipmunk design, it goes in a whole different direction. It ends up looking different and unique, despite being based off of the same kind of animal. I encourage you to break the mold and design your own creature.

Hey I thank you for the video. I know your busy and probably won't see this comment but I really would like if you would do a tutorial on how to make a character reaction video. You know for like someone who would like to cover topics. If not it's cool I appreciate you doing this much. I just wanna learn how to edit and add or take away clips. With a character people can love. Humor is important to I know I'm just lacking when it comes to knowledge not the brightest tool in the shed if you catch my drift lol.

I'm thinking of adding a mascot to my channel whenever I start making videos. It'll actually be a Stand (from Jojo) that I made for myself. Here's a description of what it looks like:
"A red, phoenix-like Stand. He sports sharp talons, a strong beak and blue eyes, which may turn red in the heat of battle. He has 5 tails, all of which are adorned with beautiful circular red feathers, which have golden details on the outer edges (much like the Phoenix Cloth's "tails”, from Saint Seiya.). He also has a "hairdo" of feathers on his head, with 3 of them protruding backwards from his forehead, making him look "kind of cute", according to his user. After his user was injected with Holy Blood, the Stand changes appearance slightly, with a red scarf appearing on his neck."

@@CharacterDesignForge I mean the symbol you most prominently use to define your channel is the forge/lantern, not a character (which I think is a good choice). There is the silhouette that briefly appears in your intros and in your website, is that what you're referring to? I just never really saw it as a mascot since it's not used that often.
