Yo I had a question for you. So I was fighting godskin duo and I killed the noble right as skinny was summoning and I got the reward for killing the boss and the grace appeared but a new noble spawned and started fighting me. Anybody think they have an explanation?

@@1_4klunar20just a bug with the way the fight is coded. Had the same issue where an apostle respawned after the fight finished. No real way to know when the bug occurs but I assume it's when the resummon timer is close enough to the final hit of the boss it doesn't register the HP. For me I had to fight a full HP Apostle after the fight was already done.
21:30 i really like how it was made on maliketh. Right infront of boss room there is dts, you can everytime run pass him, but you cant really set up before fight (grease, fgms, golden vow etc). But when you kill him once, he wont respawn
Really enjoy your runs. Your knowledge is incredible. I've just finished my first run with sorceries. I used rock sling on melania, 4 tries. Did everything for platinum I could. Sorceries did make it easier, but game knowledge is still more important. I died so many times simply from not knowing what was around the corner. Elden beast fell first try with meteorite of astel. Cheers.
My first time playing through elden ring I wanted as little spoilers as possible, I found the dragon cult and instantly fell in love. I never knew how powerful magic was at the time of release, and I also had no idea that faith was garbage at release. I just made due and figured out what worked.
On the topic of sorceries being strong for first playthrough, that is absolutely true. I'm a player who love the idea of the souls games, but I always ragequit them pretty early. The combination of getting to play a playstyle I like from the start (sorceries) AND the way they made the open world rewarding to explore, it made made able to enjoy the entire game. It was not easy, I am awful, but it was doable. I really wish I could do it all again for the first time.
@@kvazz4886 that option has always been there. Theres never been a "melt boss" button necessarily but magic has been the easy mode since demon souls. The only games you could say dont have it are Sekiro and Bloodborne, which have stripped down magic and skill trees

It was the easiest game in the series tho, leaving the gap between magic and melee feeling the smallest. Considering ds3 melee was push r1 to win, pushing r1 to win at range cant be much of a difference.
The option might have always been there, but as I said, I'm terrible. The way Elden Ring gave me what felt like a viable option from the start made it very different for me. I have ragequit all the other games, despite really wanting to play them :
I smoke about 1-2 cigarettes a day now and used to smoke almost a pack like 3-4 years ago. I cut down smoking and limited myself to 1 a day and now. And people around me always asks why do i smoke and always says that i used to smoke a pack a day before not to flex but to say that Im finally on the right track to stop it once for all.
As someone who once was on the same journey, cut off smoking while drinking if that's something you do. It puts into perspective how much you're actually drinking and encourages you to break both habits. Also in my experience you get worse hangovers if you smoke while you're drunk.
Yunno, I don't know if anyone's ever pitched it to Gino, but I would love to see Gino play a Monster Hunter game. It's basically everything he loves about fromsoft games (cool zones, awesome boss fights, cool weapons, a plethora of ways to build your set) but none of the stuff he hates (no runbacks because hunts are self contained things with mostly just the bosses so you always have the time to learn the fights, a fair but difficult learning curve that is built around the idea that learning your matchup is the most important skill so builds aren't just outclassed by each other typically, and you're never locked into a build because everything is based on your gear; you can just go make some other gear if you want to change it up [this is more something he's talked about being a problem with casual vs experienced fromsoft players, but still.]) Would absolutely love to see Gino tackle one of my favorite game series.
My main issue with sorceries and how they are balanced is the fact that, from the start of the game, without killing a single enemy, you can get comet azur, rock sling, and the gravity staff, plus the levels to equip all of those, and then use those to kill every boss in the game with no need to change anything in your build. IMO, they should’ve locked comet azur with Sellen’s quest, and you could only azur/stars of ruin after killing rennala
God I forgot just how fun the Dragon King's Cragblade is, I powerstanced two of em and the damage was actually insane. Great run as always Gino! Glad to see the Cragblade getting some love!
I’ve been using this weapon and found some pretty interesting ways to combo it with intelligence. If you use Carian Phalinx with it you can basically become an A10 warthog not only increasing the amount of poise damage you do but also increasing your damage by a little bit. It’s a really funny thing to do.
At 21:59 as far as that discussion goes, I think Morrowind did it best with mark and recall spell. You can use it to set a spot that you can instantly warp back to, but it's a one way trip. If you were to combine that with graces, and removing stake of marika then you'd have a much better system that rewards players for making good decisions.
I get being able to start with the weapon, how do you have the stats at the start to wield it though? Do you start at a certain level that allows you to wield the weapon or do you set the stat requirements to 0?
Cheat Engine prepared saves. Probably backed up with a select amount of runes and just needing to add in whatever weapon before transferring in the save file. Who knows though. Plenty of ways to accomplish the same thing at the end of the day.
Okay, honestly Gino’s advice is incredible. Learn the boss before you try to beat it. I just finished Sekiro and for the last half of the game that mentality has worked so well. Thank you once again Gino.

Why not? A new player would be dying pretty often and rune arc's aren't exactly easy to get, so i don't think it makes much of a difference if any for them. On other hand it helps experienced players who are replaying the game with getting your character set up early, when you need stats the most. I think it's perfectly fine where it is tbh

using this weapon again malenia was the hardest thing i could do, i was struggling for 3 days until i switched it last minute and fully upgraded the blasphemous blade. i officially beat her after 4 days of trying and platniumed it😭
I think Faith/Strength is actually the best all-rounder for a new player, and not just because of Blasphemous Blade lol. Faith has all of the good buffs, and being able to swap elements with your incantations depending on an enemy's resistances, or to give yourself a ranged option for flying enemies or for sniping, is awesome. Having a decent amount of strength means you can use the best shields, and guard counters are a great tool for new players, especially because the visceral gives you i-frames. Also, the melee weapons with the most range are strength weapons, which again, helps new players.
Been waiting on this weapon since I saw your stream it, used this in NG+ and beyond when getting all the Trophies, such a great weapon that people seem to ignore
I definitely agree that magic is the easy mode for this game and you can't really argue against it. As there's a lot of ways to buff it, there's low risk of getting hit so long as you've got half a brain and there's huge damage potential. In my personal experience my friend and I started Elden Ring at the same time and he picked a mage whereas I went with a melee build (as is customary for my first playthroughs) and he was able to beat Margit within 5 tries meanwhile I'm in there fighting for my life with a +0 sword and he was like "what do you mean ? That guy was really easy" lmao. Also Souls games really are a blast for challenge runs, Dark Souls 3 taught me that and I really should give Elden Ring a try but every time I think of the hour or so of collecting stuff it kind of turns me off of the idea lol
I think they should put cooldowns on spells and skills, maybe 15 secs for dragon head, 2 secs between comet type spells. And maybe like 5 second cooldowns on ashes of war
I don't think there's anything stronger than straight strength builds in my experience. You don't even need good armor. Out of every playthrough I did, my pure strength build was by far the easiest because with Wild Strikes on a big stompy weapon without even proper armor (clothing for all but my torso for which I was wearing Patches' leather armor) I could poise through everything but Godfrey and Morgott by just holding down L2 and healing any time I took too much damage. In my experience, sorceries are good for PvE and incantations are good for PvP. I had the most fun joining other hosts as a faith build and I had the most fun hosting as strength/faith build. My int/dex build I played the game for the first time as just needed Mimic Tear to tank hits while I pew pewed from afar.
Abyss Watchers was the first and only boss in ds3 that made me just put down the game for a day because the combination of the runback and some of the very short attempts made it so the attempts on average took less time than the runback

I definitely think Sorceries and Incants are made to be stronger on purpose. If you're just starting the game, not watching guides, or using 3rd party resources for info the likelihood you find exactly what you need to be stronger than a pure strength or Dex build is far less likely. By the time you've discovered everything in the game all builds are fairly on par, your weapon choice and ability to wield it are far more of a factor than pure damage numbers. For stuff that you enjoy doing it's all about knowledge and preparation. Batman style. Skill obviously takes it's place but doing what you do blind would be near impossible.

feel like dark souls 3's DLC already broke away from the time travel dlc thing. Ashes is just a place, and the ringed city physically exists below the final boss' arena. There are always going to be aspects of these games related to time being unstable or places kept from the normal flow of time, but ds3's dlc is really just the story of a guy's adventure through various places. The ringed city might exist at the end of time, but it's in the same exact way as the rest of the game does, not in a completely separate and more generic time traveley way. I'm expecting shadow of the erdtree to feel like an extension of the main game in the same kind of way as those ds3 dlcs, setting wise.
18:56 my first game was dsr and quelag took me some time. i have a fast pc, i just made a safe file outside her room because the game took like 5 sec to alt f4 and restart.
You can also trap her in a riposte loop by holding it down fully, and following up with a fully charged heavy(consistently breaks her poise if she doesn’t decide to wakeup hyperarmor) if you start basically right in her face

I completely agree on how unbalanced the great runes are. Not only their power but their disposition, also I think you should be able to keep the great runes iin NG+, otherwise, Malenia's great rune is useless, by the time you get it there's not much game left (in a normal playthrough) which is sad because it's the most "gamechanging" great rune. Imagine doing a full ER playthrough with the BB health recovery mechanic! But nope.
Your rant around 20:45 about DS3 Run back for Abyss watchers is not a good one dude. From the bonfire to the front door is maybe 15-20 seconds, and very simple to do. Even the 2 dark wraiths can easily be killed soon as u leave the bonfire, or if your feeling lazy they will strait up fight the guys outside the boss arena and win. Although I can agree with having a jaded outlook on souls games after speed running them 50,000 times and going for chain no hit runs. There isn't a single thing about that says to me "this is gonna be really fun" I would consider myself above average in playtime and skill, the prospect of playing any linear progression game over and over sounds like purgatory. In regards to the abyss watcher boss bonfire run, I just don't see it.... sorry. To each their own I suppose.
Regarding the sorcery topic - I'm pretty bad at souls games and I got haaard stuck on some bosses. I tried respec to magic builds found online and I got absolutely owned by the bosses I wanted to cheese the most, mainly maliketh and then godfrey. Then I found out about starfist and I literally breezed trough the rest of the game like it was freakin kindergarden. I still feel like casting times and getting stuck in one spot just fuks me over no matter how far I get from the boss, unless it's like a big slow boss but I don't have problems with those. For me magic is the single most overrated thing in the game. Experience in elden ring is super subjective. (edit - and no, I wasn't trying to use comet azur on everything ;P I checked some builds that were op on youtube and total garbage in my reality)

The pots always confused me. Are there only limited amounts every playthru? Like if i wanted to craft sleeping pots, im limited to only the amount of pots i can find right? Cause wvery playthru i watch, the streamer goes thru them like they replenish like estus flasks
There is a limited amount but the empty pots are reusable. So you can craft 20 of any cracked and 10 of any ritual pot at any given time but no more than that. You need materials to craft them which are readily available for some, like lava pots and more rare for others, like sleep and rot pots. So some are essentially infinite while others have a finite amount that dont respawn like butterflies.
Unfortunate that this and the bolt of granssax have the best ash of wars for my lightning build but, the regular combat style is so boring to me. The stabbing fighting style is lame so when I use them it’s literally just for the ash of wars which just isn’t worth dumping my points in dexterity to use just that. Sucks

I sleep about 5 hours a day during winter and about 4 during summer, hate it, its closer to a curse than something to be flexed

Could u do a build on the zamor curved sword? It does have hyperarmor and the l2 hits so hard. It did carry me through my third playthrought.
Combined it with morgotts curved sword for dual weilding and it was easy mode

U can make sorc builds that literally 1 shot bosses, sure u can make everything work but feels like thats not even an arguement

Abyss Watchers was the first and only boss in ds3 that made me just put down the game for a day because the combination of the runback and some of the very short attempts made it so the attempts on average took less time than the runback
Hot take: post leyndell powercreep isn't to high, you just don't get as much op stuff

Hi Gino, I was wondering if you’ve thought about doing a run where you only use one ash of war (ground slam, square off, etc). Personally I’d love it, but I can understand if it seems a little too one-sided or boring.

I definitely think Sorceries and Incants are made to be stronger on purpose. If you're just starting the game, not watching guides, or using 3rd party resources for info the likelihood you find exactly what you need to be stronger than a pure strength or Dex build is far less likely. By the time you've discovered everything in the game all builds are fairly on par, your weapon choice and ability to wield it are far more of a factor than pure damage numbers.
For stuff that you enjoy doing it's all about knowledge and preparation. Batman style. Skill obviously takes it's place but doing what you do blind would be near impossible.

Heya! Im new to elden ring challenge runs and stuff. Just found your channel through, I think lilaggy? Anyway, i have a question: What does scripting a fight mean?
feel like dark souls 3's DLC already broke away from the time travel dlc thing. Ashes is just a place, and the ringed city physically exists below the final boss' arena.
There are always going to be aspects of these games related to time being unstable or places kept from the normal flow of time, but ds3's dlc is really just the story of a guy's adventure through various places.
The ringed city might exist at the end of time, but it's in the same exact way as the rest of the game does, not in a completely separate and more generic time traveley way. I'm expecting shadow of the erdtree to feel like an extension of the main game in the same kind of way as those ds3 dlcs, setting wise.

Hey Gino, overall, what would you say your favorite build is in Elden ring?
For malenia you can permanently knock her down by not holding the aow. It has 3 ranges depending how long you hold it down
You can also trap her in a riposte loop by holding it down fully, and following up with a fully charged heavy(consistently breaks her poise if she doesn’t decide to wakeup hyperarmor) if you start basically right in her face

This weapon and Blasphemous Blade, basically put elden ring on easy mode, i have never cruised thru elden ring so easily with any other weapons even prime rob and moonveil

I completely agree on how unbalanced the great runes are. Not only their power but their disposition, also I think you should be able to keep the great runes iin NG+, otherwise, Malenia's great rune is useless, by the time you get it there's not much game left (in a normal playthrough) which is sad because it's the most "gamechanging" great rune. Imagine doing a full ER playthrough with the BB health recovery mechanic! But nope.
Your rant around 20:45 about DS3 Run back for Abyss watchers is not a good one dude. From the bonfire to the front door is maybe 15-20 seconds, and very simple to do. Even the 2 dark wraiths can easily be killed soon as u leave the bonfire, or if your feeling lazy they will strait up fight the guys outside the boss arena and win.
Although I can agree with having a jaded outlook on souls games after speed running them 50,000 times and going for chain no hit runs. There isn't a single thing about that says to me "this is gonna be really fun" I would consider myself above average in playtime and skill, the prospect of playing any linear progression game over and over sounds like purgatory.
In regards to the abyss watcher boss bonfire run, I just don't see it.... sorry. To each their own I suppose.

Regarding the sorcery topic - I'm pretty bad at souls games and I got haaard stuck on some bosses. I tried respec to magic builds found online and I got absolutely owned by the bosses I wanted to cheese the most, mainly maliketh and then godfrey. Then I found out about starfist and I literally breezed trough the rest of the game like it was freakin kindergarden. I still feel like casting times and getting stuck in one spot just fuks me over no matter how far I get from the boss, unless it's like a big slow boss but I don't have problems with those. For me magic is the single most overrated thing in the game. Experience in elden ring is super subjective. (edit - and no, I wasn't trying to use comet azur on everything ;P I checked some builds that were op on youtube and total garbage in my reality)

I don’t know how someone can be mad at someone else for their opinion on video games of all things. Sure I disagree with Gino about his rating and everything he dislikes about souls games I adore but so what? People can have differing opinions and still respect and enjoy the medium.
The pots always confused me. Are there only limited amounts every playthru? Like if i wanted to craft sleeping pots, im limited to only the amount of pots i can find right? Cause wvery playthru i watch, the streamer goes thru them like they replenish like estus flasks
There is a limited amount but the empty pots are reusable. So you can craft 20 of any cracked and 10 of any ritual pot at any given time but no more than that.
You need materials to craft them which are readily available for some, like lava pots and more rare for others, like sleep and rot pots. So some are essentially infinite while others have a finite amount that dont respawn like butterflies.
I guarantee you I'm sending Fromsoft to Gino for advice well before I send them to anyone saying boss run backs are crucial. Get rocked.
Unfortunate that this and the bolt of granssax have the best ash of wars for my lightning build but, the regular combat style is so boring to me. The stabbing fighting style is lame so when I use them it’s literally just for the ash of wars which just isn’t worth dumping my points in dexterity to use just that. Sucks
