100 bicycles ❤️

Many years ago, I had this unforgettable experience that changed my perspective about giving help to someone in need.
There was this child who was a victim of “stray bullet ” that left him crippled. The parents asked for help because they could not afford to buy a wheel chair. I wanted to help, but I don’t have enough to buy it. Then there was this good soul who approached me and generously gave money for whatever charity I would like to use. When I received the money, I didn’t look at how much it was because I was concentrating on expressing my gratitude to the donor. Finally, when I looked at the money in my hand, I was so happy to see that it was more than enough.
That unconditional generosity made me realize that even if I don’t have my own money to give, I still can be used as an instrument of blessing to those who are in need.
From then on, I started to do charitable causes.
This bicycle gift-giving was a thought that struck me when at one time I was driving along the highway and I saw construction workers walking home and hitching rides after a day’s work.
I know then that they would do this because they want to save money. They only get minimum wage and transportation is quite exorbitant especially if work is in another city or municipality. I told myself then that they should have their own bicycles to be able to get to work.
This second time, one hundred bicycles were given to beneficiaries whom I do not even know personally. Now, it is not only construction workers who benefitted but also poor students who walk a long way to get to school because they can’t afford jeepney rides. Giving away these bicycles has no strings attached. They’re being given away without any conditions, no interview, no ID’s required, no payment for shipment. All I ask is for them to also help others someday in any way they can and whenever they can to “pay it forward”. This way they also allow the Lord to use them as His instrument of blessing to others.
For me, helping others is hugely empowering and, in turn, can make me feel happier and more fulfilled. Just as the old adage goes, it really is far “better to give than to receive”.
I feel that it is my moral duty to help others, a sentiment very much rooted in my personal values and principles.
It is most important to note that sharing this experience with my children shows them from a young age that they can make positive changes to others too. Children naturally love to help others, so nurturing their innate generosity is likely to mean that they grow up with a greater appreciation of what they have, and will carry on supporting charity in years to come.
Family giving creates a bond, helping to bolster relationships through a shared goal and make positive impact to the children.
