How so? Was it like a possibility in the manga? Cause I haven't been keeping up to them yet.
Dead Meat_ Oh I haven't really kept up on the manga. I'm just saying that with all the bullying that has happened to Midoriya, especially seeing how 95% of it was from Bakugou, it would've been very possible for Midoriya to become a villian as a form of revenge. I mean even after he was given All Might's quirk, there was a huge possiblity that he wouldn't have gotten accepted into UA. And if that would have happened, it could've shaddered Midoriya's dreams of being a hero. Quite frankly, we're lucky he kept such a positive dream in mind rather than letting all the bullying get to him.
This scenario may have been possible, but it was always and always will be _very_ unlikely. If you look at Deku just at face value, the sum of his experiences would make anyone think he may have gone over to the dark side if his dreams were shattered. But Midoriya Izuku as a character would never, ever have thought of being a dark hero of any sort. For one, I've GOT to clarify this - _Deku wasn't bullied._
I know, I know, almost everybody in the fandom is going to think this is bullshit. Let me explain with facts.
Consider how carefree Deku is in the first episode and the first chapter of the manga. Yes, he was constantly brooding over how he wanted to be a hero and didn't know how. But he wasn't depressed. He seemed really happy, hopeful even when he took notes during the Mount Lady debut scene. _No one_ being bullied would be that upbeat especially when someone later asks if they're going to be a hero. If Bakugou were a bully, that hopefulness towards being a hero would be the first thing he'd want to crush in Deku.
Secondly, see how relaxed Deku is in class, _when he sits so close to Bakugou. Even after the entire class laughed at him for saying he wanted to go to UA, _Deku was humming a tune happily as he got up after school saying he needed to catch the news._ This wasn't Deku putting on a brave front(Deku really sucked at doing that back then) - Deku was genuinely feeling carefree. He'd decided to go into denial and not let what anyone around him said affect him - including Bakugou. Again, not possible if you're being bullied.
Thirdly, if Bakugou had made a habit of bullying Deku, _he would have known that Deku would be applying to UA beforehand._ He could have demanded to know(and we know Deku wouldn't really lie or be able to hide his choice) or even better, have snatched up Deku's application form in school. Bullies make a habit of keeping tabs on their victims and cruelly commenting on things they can make fun of. Making fun of the quirkless Deku applying to UA would be what any bully would do.
And yet neither did Bakugou know, _nor did he laugh when Deku's application was revealed._ Bakugou was angry. Angry and threatened by the possibility that _Deku might somehow actually get in and be better than him._
Why did Bakugou then burn up Deku's book? Because for the first time since elementary school, Bakugou lost his cool. Deku himself says that Bakugou _hadn't talked to him at all after the whole 'you fell into the water are you okay here take my hand oh ok nvm' episode._
Why? Because Bakugou had been determinedly ignoring Deku for _years,_ refusing to talk to him or even meet his gaze. (How can someone like that bully Deku? Srsly)
Bakugou has spent almost his whole life trying and failing to tell himself that Deku would _not_ make a better hero than him. And now Bakugou realized that if Deku got into UA while being quirkless, _it would be the ultimate proof that Deku was superior to him in potential._ He tried to intimidate Deku, but was still angry later - because he knew the fact that he needed to use intimidation meant Deku was a rival on his level(which he didn't want to admit).
Think about it, Bakugou could have burnt the hero observation books a long time ago. Hell, his blasts were so strong he could have turned the notebook to ashes in the first episode. _But he didn't._ In fact, one of his cronies said that _Bakugou had never gone so far._
Never gone so far? Bakugou has apparently been bullying Deku, and yet he's never gone further than sooting a book?
Verbal abuse is a bit of a moot point here - but while it's true that Bakugou told Deku to jump off the roof(and I'm not justifying that, Bakugou why on earth did you have to say something that harsh jfc) - _Bakugou has never talked like that to Deku before._ His friends say it themselves to Bakugou later. Bakugou doesn't try to defend his words. He just says that he said it in anger.
See, Bakugou wants _a clean school record._ In the manga Bakugou was VERY angry when his friends were smoking, and in the anime he was livid when they mentioned cheating at the arcade. You think someone like Bakugou who steers clear of such trouble would try to bully someone? The punishment for misbehavior is very severe in the hero profession. In the side manga the Vigilantes, it's revealed that excessive violence and aggression of any sort can get you suspended from hero duty if you're on the task force - and if you're a student you'll probably never get a hero license. Bakugou would _never_ bully someone and take that risk.
Then why did Bakugou speak so harshly? Paradoxically, _it was because he thought highly of Deku._ He _knew_ Deku was strong enough to never commit suicide over something he said. He knew Deku would treat the line "jump off the roof" as nothing more than a "give it up already, you were born quirkless and there hasn't been a way found to change that".
If Bakugou thought Deku was so emotionally weak he'd actually jump, _he wouldn't have dared to say it._ Guess what happens to the school record of someone who instigates a classmate to suicide? There you go.
Still not convinced that bullying didn't happen off-screen? Just look at the behavourial cues.
I'm sure everyone knows that calling Bakugou "Kacchan" is a big deal. The suffix "chan" is attached mostly to girls in Japan. Using it for a boy is a major form of endearment, even in anime. It's like the equivalent of talking to someone with baby language.
And Bakugou _has told his two other childhood friends to stop calling him Kacchan._
The guy with elastic fingers is Deku and Bakugou's childhood friend, and he used to call him "Kacchan" too. But _by the time they reached middle school the same guy was calling him "Katsuki"._
Clearly Bakugou the mighty thinks "Kacchan" is too childish a nickname.
Which begs the question - why the fuck is Deku of all people the only one allowed to call him "Kacchan"?
If Bakugou was a bully, you think he would tolerate hearing that nickname from his victim and not from his two friends?
More importantly, you think a person getting bullied would really want to keep calling his bully by such an endearment?
It's because Bakugou literally does _not_ want to confront Deku. At all. About anything. He's desperate to just act like Deku doesn't exist. And since Bakugou has heard Deku call him "Kacchan" his whole life, he knows making Deku call him something else will just alert him to Deku's existence even more.
Bakugou, who is ultra-sensitive to any kind of challenge, insult or patronizing, has NEVER told Deku to stop calling him that. Deku shouted out "Kacchan" on national fucking TV more than twice. That's the name he told the Pussycats during the school trip. Don't you think Bakugou wouldn't feel even once that Deku is not taking his power seriously? Bakugou thinks Deku goes easy on him when Deku is actually doing his best - why doesn't he explode when Deku calls him childishly?
(I don't even have to provide an explanation. You see where that is going.)
Can someone like this really a bully who harasses Deku?
Bakugou Katsuki, while being a big ball of pent up anger - isn't someone who would feel _anything_ by bullying the weak. Bakugou has a lot of pride. He only ever feels he's achieved something when he's fought - and won - against the strong. He will lash out whenever he feels threatened (a lot like a wild animal lol). He's like a hot-headed lion who will go straight for the kill. But he doesn't treat his 'prey' like playthings. Bullying is the course of action for sick, manipulative and spiteful. Bakugou _isn't either of those._ Cold, calculated acts of bullying like making someone buy you lunch, scribbling hate on their desks, filling their shoes with nails, throwing food, drink or dirt at them, taunting them and challenging them to fight back are things _Bakugou has never done. For what it's worth, Bakugou still looks up to All Might and hero culture. He will never want to stoop so low.
And _Deku feels the same way._ Deku has never stopped thinking that Bakugou is a worthy hero. He's taken notes of how much Bakugou has improved over the years. He knows that Bakugou doesn't mean half of the harsh things he says. In the 4-koma spinoff manga, Deku _puts Bakugou first under the list of friends he has, above even Uraraka and Iida._ It's a mark of how much Deku likes and respects his childhood friend. If Deku was being bullied, I'm pretty sure Bakugou would _not_ be in the friends list. Deku isn't a cliche dense shounen MC. He's smart - and most of all, understands how Bakugou thinks.
Also, _when Uraraka describes Bakugou as a bully, Deku is the one who corrects her._ He says that while he is hot-headed and brash, he's _not a bad person._
...whew, that went on _way_ too long.
Anyway, the conclusion from this is - Deku hasn't been bullied. So he had no one to take revenge over, and would certainly never become a villain. This is even confirmed _in canon._ The spinoff manga Vigilantes follows a 'hero' a lot like Deku - a guy who didn't have a good quirk; flunked the hero entrance exams and had his dream shattered. This guy ended up using his quirk illegally to deal with small-time rascals. He used his quirk for that without trying to look for a non-quirk related solution - and also kept his identity hidden.
Notice that Deku didn't plan to do any of that. After the sludge incident, Deku had decided that he was going to _completely give up, and lead a totally normal life._ He embraced it because that was what All Might had told him to do.
So long story short...calling Bakugou a bully and Deku capable of turning to the dark side is the greatest disservice we can do to their characters.
Otaku-chan Wow. I actually never even really thought of it that way. Very compelling reasoning. But I will correct only three things. As someone who was bullied all their school life, (And Gods forbid I call myself a victim. Cause jfc I absolutely despise how that sounds.) I know that it is entirely possible to put on a brave face via denial. As well as bullies don't usually keep tabs on their targets & when someone feels threatened by another in some way, it's highly possible for that feel to push someone to be a bully.
Otaku-chan damn that's a long read. But I'm happy you were motivated to write all of this. I totally agree with you. I think you nailed all the spots and tried to cover every spot. Tho some sentences did come off as harsh. But that's the internet for ya. It's hard to interpret the tone. But overall I think it's well written and a very interesting comment.

Man, BNHA would have been so much better if Izuku became a villain instead
Like, he had the perfect backstory for it, and he could have been the one to show the world that even the kindest, purest soul can snap if given enough abuse. All Might would have lived with the guilt of knowing that he was the final straw and spend the rest of his life trying to rectify what he created. GOD I hope someone out there makes this into a spin off series.

I respect your opinion but...bnha would NOT be better if deku was a villain deku is a heroic spirit and always will be even if he doesen't beckme a hero thats why i always try to avoid villain deku stories because they're absolute bullshit (no offense) but...you can like whatever you want to i guess

@@gyrazal6189 That's why I really like vigilante stories better than villain stories because it fits more with his personality, but even though the villain deku idea is way OOC its still fun to imagine what would have happened to him if he did for some reason break.

More than anything he would have a more likely chance of actually being a popo or a quirk coach/consultant (help kids with newly developing quirks). Like that is just what his character is, he wants to help.
The villain au is interesting because it's an what if? Yaknow because people probably would feel they'd definitely turn to the dark side and project -idk- real worldness(?) on to him; and what ifs are always interesting. It makes you appreciate what he is more.
Tbh tho some villain aus are hella good, plot and writing wise. Like "dang IF Izuku would do that he'd definitely do it like this."
But it doesn't mean I believe it would happen.

So he made a pact with a fiend to get revenge and became a warlock. What he didn't know is that this fiend was his crush tormented and twisted into a new person. Eventually (on the last session before the campaign ended) he killed her assassin, felt no relief from his rage, and Planeswalked on the spot.

New plot of bnha: Deku tries to become a villain, kacchan almost kills him and brings his self esteem down. Then becomes a villain which kacchan tries to fix his errors from the past where as Deku tries to ignore him but it gets to him sometimes when he’s about to sleep. And the you have to wait to see if Deku ever tried to become a hero again.
