There is always so much to be appreciated by me to the level of scholarship you always bring no matter what the content may be; you put things in a historical context then use the esoteric scaffolding to articulate these court card meanings. Its as much of an exposition as is possible of these Kings. So blessed as always, much peace and many blessings.
This is awesome! There is so much I do not know. Thank you for this wonderful education series. I think I have to revisit again and again just like how you keep helping us with repeating Crowley's Knight and Prince images.
Like many people I suppose, I struggle with the Court cards. The one approach that has helped me a little bit is to equate each Court card with a specific mythological or historical figure and use that person’s persona or character traits as a starting point to begin interpreting the card. Since I use the Thoth deck, here are my Knights (Kings)-these may not suit the RWS as nicely. The Knight(King) of Wands matches Benebell’s…Alexander the Great (astride the legendary Bucephalus) whose conquests spread like a blazing wildfire, but whose empire also quickly disintegrated once he died (very fiery like). The Knight(King) of Cups is King Arthur, lover of Guinevere and seeker of the holiest of Cups-the Grail. He is a heart centered ruler on a spiritual quest. The Thoth Knight(King) of Swords image reminds me of Ghengis Khan, sweeping across the plains of Asia, attacking everything in sight. Here in the Thoth, it might represent a fiery, intellectual attack without taking into account emotional considerations. Finally, there is the Knight(King) of Disks…umm, here I am having difficulty finding the right avatar since the Thoth-y Knight is more of a Nature/Earth prosperity & provider kind of guy rather than a strict money/business success kind of guy (like a Bill Gates). Any suggestions? In any event, like I mentioned, I use these avatars merely as a starting point for card interpretation.
I disagree that RWS Kings are equivalent to the Thoth Knights. Comparing both source materials for these decks, even looking to Book T, I've found that Waite and Crowley saw the Knights in the same way. To equate Kings to Knights would require assuming that Waite's Kings are fire or the Yod. This doesn't make sense. The Princes in Thoth also have the totems ascribed to the Kings in Book T. The Knight of Swords in Thoth has the stratus clouds also described in book T I could keep going, but in my studies, I have found no reason why we should equate Thoth Knights to RWS's Kings. Functionally, they're more similar to Waite's Knights. I believe Crowley simply changed the order for alchemical reasons, and it maps onto the Tree of Life better.
Hi Benebell, thank you so much for your awesome videos. Really appreciated. At the beginning of this video you said He1 is element of earth, but it's water. sorry it bothered me because we want 4 elements! :D much love
Can Benebell maybe explain what that is that the king of pentacles has his left foot on to the bottom right of the card when it is up right on the RWS? I have guessed calling it a safe. What do you, or does anyone know of it?
The question about the Kings: In the Golden Dawn system (see book by Regardie), the relationship is as fallows: Take the suit of wands as an exemple. Card name (waite and marseille): Knight of Wands. Hidden Name: King of the Fire Spirit Card name: Queen of Wands. Hidden Name: Queen of the thrones and the wands. Card name: King of Wands. Hidden Name: Prince of the Chariot of Fire. Card name: Page of Wands. Hidden Name: Princess of Bright Flame. Crowley use the hidden name, but in the case of the Knight, he kept as a knight. And if we look at the astrological relationship, the Knight is the fire of fire in Waite`s tarot, as well in Crowley`s. Thus: The Kights in both Tarots have the same atributes: fire from fire: Yod. And he is King of the Spirit of Fire. 20 grad Scorpio... 20 Sagittarius The Queens: He. Water of Fire 20 Piscis ... 20 Aries The Kings (Waite) - Prince (Crowley): Prince of the Chariot of fire. Vau. Air of Fire. 20 Cancer - 20 Leo. (See the lion in both cards) (Or the taurus in the king of pentacles - Waite and in the prince of discs - Crowley) Page - Princess: He. North Pole. The confusion is because in the Waite Tarot we have the Tetragramaton with the letters exchanged (Vau, He, Yod, He) and because Crowley keep the name Knight while change the others to the “Real and Hidden Name”. I take this opportunity to thank this series, it is excellent. I hope i contributed and you could understand my english. Greetings from Brazil!
Still working from twenty- two N.J."I believe I can fly" Track,(R.Kelley)"The Man in the mirror" Track(Michael Jackson). A gradual process has taken place within me.☯️📖🎉🐀😍🥚🥀🐯🀄🦇🐇, Benebell, Mrs.Wen what do you feel about calling Easter, Resurrection Day, as the church has found it to be more suitable. I feel that word is to direct and leaves no leigh way for the non-believers who in turn curse the truth; as well , forgetting the belief of God in which the Earth is reborn as Christ was dead the world suffered!
THERE IS NOOOOOOO WAY THAT I CAN GO FOR THE SO CALLED PHYSICAL DESCRIPTIONS OF THE COURT CARDS...THAT'S NOT IN MY COMMUNITY. AND THAT IS WHAT DETERS SO MANY FROM TAROT BECAUSE IT IS SO ONE SIDED.
I am obsessed with this series. Benebell, keep doing your thing girl!!! Love and gratitude for all your hard work ;)
Wow I’ve watched three of your videos now and they blow me away. You break it all down so well. Thank you so much!

I love this! Hmm... as for Knight (King) of Disks, I'm not sure... maybe Mansa Musa? =)
@@BenebellWen I'm unfamiliar with Mansa Musa. I will now have to research this. Thank you!!
Thank you for your insights, your knowledge and above all, your generosity in sharing all this with us. Most grateful to have found you!
Thank You for the series, Benebell!
These vids are so helpful. Thank you! Looking forward to the finished series to reference over and over 🤓
