Still probably the best moment in my lifetime of being a Tigers fan. I was only 6 when they won it all in '84, so a little young to remember all the hooplah around that one. This one brought tears to my eyes when it happened and still does watching it today.
DrewD55. One of my favorite memories as a Tiger fan! Screamed my voice till I lost it completely! I wonder how long it will be until we see these kind of Tigers again!
Same here my friend. I was 6 as well. Didn't know anything about the Tigers so I didn't understand. When that ball left the bat, my eyes welled up. Especially considering I had season tickets in 2003. Sucks we didn't win it all, but I will never get tired of seeing this jack shot.
@@HonestUAWElectrician I wasn't even born for that. Was born a month after their last AL division title 3 years later. So this was my first taste of this live. Glad for the first time since 2014 they're playing meaningful September baseball! And man, both world series appearances were killed momentum by waiting an entire week to play another game
I was in the barbershop this day...we we're all watching. I stood up from my chair in the ninth and said, "Maggs about to hit a homer." My barber turned the volume up full and Magglio CRUSHED it. The placed erupted it...just like the stadium. I grabbed my phone and called my dad who was watching it at home. Two years later...my dad passed away. For some reason, this is the only baseball moment we shared.
2006 was an awesome year. As a cardinal fan it was the most memorable year of my 8 year old life. This walk off home always gave me chills though. That was as great tigers team and an incredible coach. Shame they never did win a title.
Man. That place went Nuts!!!!!! I was there, and my Buddy said...... That pitcher is dropping his elbow, the next pitch? Maglio knocked it out of the Park!!!! My Buddy and I left Detroit at 4am!!!!!! My 2nd Playoff Game!!!!! A memory forever!!!!
I was in 3rd grade when this happened, I believe. I remember it so clearly watching it with my dad. Ordonez became my favorite player. I dressed up as him on Halloween because of this lol
Yes, Commish. The Cards came in with a head of steam off their win over the Mets and the Tigers had to wait a week to play. Too bad, but this homer by Maggs is every bit as good as Bobby Thomson's over-rated "shot heard 'round the world'In the Giants pennant-winning playoff in '51 against the Dodgers.
Greatest sports memory of my life. Born in 84 I lived my life as a fan of the Tigers knowing losing. That was it. This season was so special. I was lucky enough to be at this game, standing room only, the stadium was shaking under my feet when the ball went out. So many grown men with tears in their eyes, myself included.
Damn, so lucky......I went to one playoff game in 2012, Game 2 of the ALDS also against Oakland that Don Kelly won on a sac fly. That one was fun, but..can't imagine what it'd be like to have been there for this moment.....so jealous lol.

It's probgably going to be about 3 or 4 years from now, but the good times are coming. The drafting of pitchers (Casey Mize, Matt Manning and Tarik Skubal) has been spectacular and all three are just about ready. Now, they are starting to concentrate on drafting hitters. It was Riley Greene and a few other guys last year and it'll be either Spencer Torkelson from Arizona St. or Austin Martin from Vanderbilt this year. But the misery they've been going throughsince 2014 should be over soon.
idk bro you got here before three years after almost breaking the record for losses in a season. Y'all have a fairly strong farm system too. Cabrera's contract is weighing down the team though.
I was at this game and seated in the first row of the upper deck right over third base. I was able to see the arch of the homer to win the game. A very thrilling thing to see. I have never been colder in my life and I hunt in the Upper Peninsula.
I had the pure luck to be a guest this night in a friend's family suite that was next to the broadcast booth on the first base line. I was sitting in the outside seats of the suite, because I didn't want to miss anything because the energy was electric in that ballpark, and a guy like me rarely gets to be in such premium seats. Glad I was! Before Maglio came up, it was Craig Monroe ... who was on a hot streak at that time. I remember saying to the person next to me (whom I didn't know), "Who's going to be a hero today? ... someone has to be a hero today!" Craig Monroe had a good at bat, and made it to 1st base. ... Then came Maglio ... When he hit that shot, everyone knew it was gone from the crack of the bat. From my vantage point that night, I watched the flight of the ball down the left field line ... drawing slightly left ... the stadium was instantly aglow with camera flashes ... the crowd instantly erupted ... everyone was on their feet jumping up and down, including me ... I watched the flight of the ball as if in slow motion ... it was like the movie "The Natural", and that is by no means hyperbole ... it was one of the most magical moments I have ever had the privilege to be a part of in my life, and I will NEVER forget it.
We've been lucky as sports fans really, but the two failed Tigers runs + the Wings game 7 loss in 2009 still hurts. Getting that close and losing is worse than just sucking. Thems the breaks though, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
I remember I was 10 years old, I was playing mlb 2k6 on my ps2 (I guess I forgot the game was on tv that night) and all of a sudden I hear my mom screaming in her bedroom. I ran back to find that she was cheering so hard for Magglio hitting that walk off to go to the World Series.
