What a lovely pic at the start showing the young and the Old experienced who I’ve no doubt will pass on their knowledge to those who will listen. I’m always impressed seeing the T&S reports and seeing this wee river more than hold its own with the Findhorn. There’s a saying about Salmon fishing that the more one pays, the more fish one catches? There’s truth to that, but there’s also hidden gems on association water that on their day can be superb. It’s the genuine run of March/April springers that excites me.
Yes Andrew its a terrific wee river with a great club committee, we have around 8 miles which is great for an association water. I always try in March as there are always fish around, but mid April will see a good number of springers in the system. All dependant on water though but there are some hefty fish in the system fish of 20lb and over are caught every year. I fished the Findhorn a few times this year but think the Nairn was more consistent than its big brother !
Beautiful Nairn. Not an angler but have wandered along the river each time I've holidayed in Inverness 🌊
Absolutely love the place and the people.Thank you for sharing.♥️
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice to see them go back.
Cheers to all on your fine river.Perhaps one day post lockdown I might come and beg a throw and careful wade with the fly rod....?
Simon ,Didsbury Manchester
Nice music by the way Best endeavours for 2021 Manchester bee for you🐝
Thanks Simon the river needs water though dont fish if river is below 0.4 on the Sepa Firhall gauge.
Does your stretch connect to any privately owned fishing? Love the video.
I love this river . The place in the highlands to fish i would say. A hidden gem !
Came up to Nairn for a weeks holiday hoping to fish the river but unfortunately the river was too low. Will try again this year hopefully .Will give the tackle shop a ring before travelling the 6 hour journey. The river looks great.
Hi Steven local knowledge is best, contact me before coming i can give you advice on how its fishing and where to try. Can also give you a map to point out the best pools. River has plenty of fish from now till end of season, August is best month but you can catch on any day of the season. Getting 2 or 3 in a day is not unusual when conditions are good. Dave
@@nairnfly Thanks for your reply I appreciate your offer.
Regards
@@nairnfly hi nairnfly can you buy day permits just now, I live locally
Wonderfull fish 🦈👏👏👏
Hoping to fish the Nairn next week, looks to be heavy rain over the weekend so might give it a go on Tuesday. Where can I purchase a day ticket? Great videos, keep them coming 👍
You can get a day ticket from Pat frasers high street nairn, or online through fishpal. The Nairn is listed on fishpal under the Findhorn. Full details on the clubs fishing can be found on website www.nairnanglingassociation.co.uk
Cheers! Looks to have been a good season so far. Do you know if there is anywhere I could get a map of the pools etc? Recently moved just outside Inverness and don't know the Nairn area very well. Thanks 👍🎣
That is a bonnie river been years since i have seen her ,man fond memories makes me want to get my fly rod out and head north lol
Why dont you give it a go :)
Great stuff nice fish.fished forres last couple of years need to try the nairn.bit of trek though 4 hour drive for us.👍
Hi James when we have water it is a very consistent and productive water. Thinking abut coming up speak to me first and can update you on how its fishing.
@@nairnfly cheers m8 will do usual September stay at finhorn bay caravan park nice place.on moy in june if we get over lock down.🤞tight lines when we go again.
Hi Dave great wee video of what looks stunning little river! I’m just up the road in Inverness and ashamed to say I’ve never fished it. Looks like rain this coming week too-u think it’s worth coming along for a cast on the association water next week? I see permits are on fishpal. If so any tips of where to try? I like the fly mainly
Hi James the Nairn is really good for springers in April and May some quality fish are about. June is usually flat like most rivers. Mid July to season end is best time could be worth a cast this week though as river been low for long time and not many fish came in in on last big spate. When river comes up it will generally be coloured for at least a full day so not worth fishing till day 2 after the rise. In terms of water height best is from 0.45 to 0.9 on the Sepa Firhall gauge. Spinning is allowed to about 0.5. Small river so you need to get your fly down quick fish an intermediate line or float with fast or super fast tip. Bright fly will be good as water will have a peaty colour. Dont spend too much time at the same pool as there are plenty to try. Good high water pools are Hanger, Milton, Budgate, Colins, Cockles. Club website has plenty of info on it if you have no idea on the pool location i can give you a map.
so many beautiful pools and runs, a fly fishers dream little river! can you guys tell me do you need a 14/15 ft rod or can you fish it with a 9.6 trout rod?
Hi John you can fish with a trout rod but there are some big fish in this river and you wont have much control on the fish. I personally use a 11ft switch rod, i would say 12ft absolute max for any fly rod though. Great river will fish really well next few days if you can get out.
thank you for the reply, where would i get a permit and who would i contact? i live in alves and would be looking for a season permit next year, could i join or am i outwith the area?
Hi, staying in Findhorn and looking to fly fish in the area for salmon and came across your video. Would appreciate any advice on the river if possible (good water heights and areas etc), cheers.
Hi Jamie i am not an expert on this river, only managed to fish this year on Findhorn because there was availability because of Covid crisis. Forres angling club have good club water on the Findhorn at the bottom end of the river check out their facebook or club website. You should also try the Nairn it is an excellent and very productive river again look at Nairn Angling association. Both rivers have a high peat content after rain so a bright fly often does well, good luck and tight lines !
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. It’s the Nairn I’m interested in, thinking of giving it a go in a day or two after all the rain today
Is permits available for Nairnside Beat, I remember years ago it went to Timeshare Rods. ?
Hi Cammy the club have the Nairnside beat from this year, but it is only available to full members not day tickets. There is a maximum number of anglers allowed per day and you must use our defined booking system. This does not apply to any other beat the club has. Full details are on the club website. Dave
James
Does your stretch connect to any privately owned fishing? Love the video.
Hi Bill there are no private beats on the video it is all club water. We actually have a new additional beat at Nairnside that we have leased after i made this video.
Hi there's a private beat downstream of nairnside do you know anything about it ? Thanks. @@nairnfly
@@prof1982 sorry no i think there is beat called Clava down near the battlefield but dont think it goes up to bottom of nairnside.
