- We spoke to Luke Edwards from Korg UK at Gear Fest 2023, where he showed us the just released the Nautilus AT, an upgraded version of the Nautilus workstation with the addition of Aftertouch.
The Nautilus AT offers expressive control with assignable Aftertouch, allowing users to add extra nuance and variation to their playing.
Available in 88 and 61-key options, the Nautilus AT retains the nine engine architecture from the Kronos, including sampling, piano, electric piano, and legacy synth engines like the MS-20 and Poly-6.
The Nautilus AT serves as Korg's current flagship workstation.

What's with Korg??
Korg should have made desktop modules of the Wavestate, Opsix and Modwave for a reasonable price.
Then put all that tech into a new flagship workstation with poly Aftertouch, what a beast that would be. Instead we get yet another version of old tech with channel Aftertouch. Difficult to understand their reasoning at the moment.
Exactly, korg is making the lasiest money grab decisions right now
None of these companies do anything without a sound business case behind it. The addition of aftertouch may seem like an odd thing to us lot but KORG probably has very good reasons for doing this. KRONOS was probably too expensive to manufacture and given the current situation with parts availability, it probably made more sense to drop it and make Nautilus their top of the range. Same reasoning behind Yamaha dropping Montage. All of these companies are businesses first and foremost. Their number one aim is to turn a profit. Not to keep us happy regardless of the cost to the business. I am sure we will see a 73-key version in the not-too-distant future. It is another opportunity to grab some headlines with a "new" product.
Luke’s a really decent chap. Met him here and at Synth East 👍
Since the Drumlogue Korg's pricing decisions have been nuts.
Drumlogue is basically a volca drums with sounds and samples from Electibe with tiny knobs and clunky interface for almost 7 hundreds.... still have no idea why people buying that.
I can’t be arsed with Korg
Does the upgrade offer an AT badge on the panel?
That’s absolutely absurd. Should have had AT all along. Besides, why would you introduce a board with such a minor change instead of introducing a newer replacement version of the Kronos. The UI needs to be overhauled. Take some notes from the Roland Fantom UI. C’mon Korg!! Your blowing it!!!! Get with the program.
for the price it originally came out at, i would have seriously expected it have had it by default. Looks like this maybe a cheap upgrade, so there is something out there, until the replacement kronos is here.
It's not poly like hydrasynth is it?
Geez Korg why? I purchased the Nautilus 88 key and expected aftertouch to be included already. Now I have to buy an add-on module or keybed replacement? I do not understand the design decisions that they have been making lately. I understand the need to replace the Kronos, but releasing something that is basically the same keyboard stripped down makes no sense.
It's called back- pedalling... At the consumer's expense..
when i watched one of the very 1st videos of the nautilus, i was very surprised for the price, that it didn't have the after touch built in. After all it was supposed to be a stripped down version of the Kronos if i am right? So looks like Korg have listened to people about the after touch feature. I wouldn't be surprised that the non after Touch boards vanish from the range in a few months time, if they decide to give the 73 note the after touch. As for the replacement of the Kronos, i think its down to the chip shortage that they haven't been able to launch one.
Modx needed AT too lol,
Korg are almost on par with Disney for bad decisions
No, Roland will always win that competition.
Seems like you have an interesting opinion about Disney? You mind sharing it with the group?
Not really. My opinion is no different than most, I suspect. Just sitting on the side-lines with everyone else, watching Disney self-annihilate @@forton615
Man !!!!! KORG ??? are you kidding ???????????????????
So old Nautilus (they were not cheap btw) didn't have aftertouch?... Maybe i'm wrong? Who can shed some light?
Correct: "Velocity sensitive, but non after touch." on all three models
@@macks2025 oh thanks man!
you would have expected it to have the aftertouch to start with, but looks like they have had some right complaints and they have had to do something about it. This is their " flagship" after the kronos was pulled. They handed the market right over to Roland and Yamaha as soon as the kronos was pulled.
Wake up Korg... read the room.
73 key here no AT poor show Korg also should have had it in the first place
C'est quand que korg fait un peu des mise à jour pour des clients?? Pas toujours sortir des nouvelles machine. Putain t'achete un synthé ou un clavier korg y a 3 mise à jour parce qu'il sont obligé et après cest terminé !
why oh why couldn't Korg give us the SE series in the Nautilus skin?
SE is same $ here as the Nautilus and that's Korgs pricing, which is a joke when you compare the 2 side by side.
Korg really needs to understand that we as there customers see what they have done with the SE releases, and they're priced really really badly.
More of Korg being Korg. The only surprise here is that some here seem surprised when this has been their business model for a LONG time. They are VERY different from the company that brought you the PS3300, MS20, and PolySix. This company builds platforms (admittedly good ones) at significant cost and then on a specific schedule pre-determined and driven by marketing analysis rolls out variations and incremental upgrades as long as they possibly can. (Roland and Yamaha music division have mostly become the same model) This is simply the latest small upgrade to OASYS which they started in the mid 90s. RPi is the latest platform investment (looks like another really good one) and they will also expand and "slow increment" that as long as possible. (There is no doubt the next electribe will run on that)
The best thing about the AT? Now you can afford the original at a great deal! Plus, guess if you are into piano, aftertouch is pointless. To me, a pedal can emulate mono aftertouch anyway. So, thanks Korg for making an 88 Nautilus become an option for us not so rich guys. ;)
Good ideea! 👌
Could you please explain to me how can i make the settings? (aftertouch control with a footswich pedal). Thanks!!!
@@szekerespista3758 A volume pedal is just like any slide or knob. Just assign the pedal to whatever variable you want it to control. I don't own a Nautilus yet, so I can't walk you through the steps. BUT I had a Kronos 2 and it was very easy to do. The O.S. is the same. So, there must be a lot of videos on assigning a pedal to whatever you want to manipulate!
For example, Assign the pedal to a resonance filter fil. Heck, get two or three pedals, go crazy. Remember VOLUME PEDALS, not sustain! You want more than just on or off. Done this for years! No different than playing with the mod wheel!
Aftertouch=hype. LOL. If you want an expressive keyboard, there are much better midi controller options for such these days! Otherwise, just a waste.
@@Curious_Skeptic thank you for your response! I am allready using expression pedal for changing different parameters but i didn't know that it can be used for aftertouch too.
@szekerespista3758 aftertouch is literally just a midi control channel assigned to any parameter. There is no specific 'aftertouch ' effect. So, in reality, aftertouch is just another expressive control like mod wheel. Some leyboards now have key bending. You can push key left or right on individual keys to get yet another level of expression.
@@Curious_Skeptic thanks!
Kronos 3, enough said, this makes no sense.
So Korg are making an issue of a feature that they had on their 1985 DW8000! I wonder if they'll release a Nautilus ATQBU....... NAUTILUS AFTER TOUCH QUICK BOOT UP considering it takes up to 3 minutes to boot up in 2023!
Strange to see so much hate in the comments. Korg has a wide range of products. They also have to take care of gigging and media creators.
Korg...10 years behind as usual. Just over here enjoying my Osmose for $1800 USD, that's all...
Really Korg is not thinking on Trendy thoughts features , Customer experience and expectations , that to as compare to others price is also too much
Why not a new Kronos upgrade … they lose their focus on the most important things( a whole list of products … too much I think)
Big deal🙄
Still no piano roll though...😆😂🤣
Yep no piano roll and no queue list feature
So let me get this right. After all this hype surrounding the next successor to the Kronos, and THIS is what we're getting with the Nautilus? This keyboard quite frankly is NOT a successor to the Kronos by ANY stretch. It's more like a placeholder because I have a feeling that it's still coming. Regardless though, in a quote unquote 'perfect' world, if the Nautilus isn't in fact the 'successor' to the Kronos (which I believe it's not), wouldn't you keep the Kronos/Kronos 2 around UNTIL the successor is released and THEN discontinue it?
And let's be honest here, Korg lied. Because way back when the Nautilus was about to be released, Korg did a livestream to show off the Nautilus, and Luciano Minetti pretty much said that the Nautilus would be an 'option' and that it wasn't going to be replacing any of the current lineup, PARTICULARLY the Kronos................................LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not sure if korgs Kronos replacement is here yet, due to the chip shortages. If this has turned out to be the replacement, then Korg have gone backwards right there.
@@procta2343 My thoughts exactly. I have a feeling that it is though. One because of what it says on the Nautilus AT product page, and secondly when they lied when they said that the Nautilus would only be another 'option', and the Kronos wasn't going anywhere. I hope I am wrong though and will happily admit it if I am.
🤦🏾♂️
How to make money in 2024
Crappy Nautilus = NO Karma, no vector, No bigger screen, no solid body . And is going to be the flagship..! 🤣😂
Agreed... It's just like firing an aging A-list actor, shoving out a B-lister in their place,
then telling them to just shut up n get on with it, regardless of their shortfalls.... Well that's my analogy anyway😄.
Korg are like Nicholas cage, rubbish lame release one after another zzzzzz
