Ahh, I noticed the Champ 7FC after your arrival @24:55. My dad and I restored and flew one back in the late 60's, early 70's. We hangared at KOAK. I did not realize how fortunate I was.
One of my favorite little aircrafts it's a bubble canopy like a P-51 Mustang in an open cockpit like a Stearman it has the best of many worlds wrapped up all in one
I had one of these, a 415c 1947 I think. I restored it and sold it before it flew. I polished it like this one however I painted some red accents and it had cloth wings. C85 and auto-fuel STC, rear spar AD, and no corrosion, I was worried about spar intergranular corrosion but none was found... This one in the video is beautiful, I really like the metal wing panels
I enjoy watching videos of new pilots enjoying their airplanes and exploring the their new found freedom in flying. From time to time I pass on friendly suggestions when I notice something that can be improved. I'm a retired pilot with a major airline and a flight instructor since 1969. I've noticed in almost all of your videos that with few exceptions you always touchdown to the left of centerline. This is a common issue with leisure pilots. With rare exceptions you should always touchdown on the centerline. This is a skill that will be useful down the road. It will also develop the habit pattern of intolerance to error in your flying - another important skill. Keep up the good work and enjoy your flying.
Sky King, thank you for the comment. I agree, my 'non centerline' is embarrassing to me, and I will fix it. My poor instructor, who kept on at me about it must be very upset! The next time I do an Oshkosh adventure, I hope you will be satisfied that I have fixed that problem.
There used to be a guy in Healdsburg that had Ercoupe’s. He had a hangar over at the little airport off Lipton Springs Road. There were extra wings, engines and miscellaneous stuff in that hangar. He was a large frame guy but a seasoned pilot. Last time I was in that hangar was about 1995?+/- Can’t remember his name..
James seems to get many of those days there! It's been foggy and damp for days here back in the UK! Juan pops up in a few of James videos, I am guessing he may be a neighbour 👍 He seems like the goto guy when you need advice on aviation?
I was startled to recognize Colusa County airport before you even said it in the video... I did my very first solo cross country flight there in 1978! There was absolutely nothing there but a gas pump and a small shack then...
I just subscribed to your channel James. You put out some great flying videos with your beautiful family and Ercoupe. Booneville is a place I'd like to fly into with my Pacer some day. Looking forward to checking out many more. Thanks!
If it would be ok for me to ask if you would give us a tour of your cockpit? I am about to start groundschool and after watching every video I have had the chance to watch your aircraft or various versions of the Ercoupe can be flown without having to use peddles to fly. I have had shattered bout of my ankles. I do believe that the Ercoupe can be operated by using the Yoke only. Thank you for your time.
I can do a cockpit tour, yes. And yes, many Ercoupe's do not have rudder pedals. There is a mechanical mixer under the baggage compartment which mixes in the right amount of rudder when you turn the yoke. I have a view of that here ua-cam.com/video/QB42dxM7XnM/v-deo.html
What is the useful Load of your Ercoupe ? I had thought that with 2 passengers that you couldn't carry a full fuel load. I might or must be mistake. ErCoupes are awesome little planes and your version is one the best I have ever seen.
I love the intro, especially with your dad. very sweet and charming. Doing the intro from the NC Airport Terminal should be the way forward. Consider ending each journey with footage of you walking back into the terminal. My instincts hue to familiarity and structure that creates comfort, but your soft ending works just as well. Oh, and the beard kinda freaked me out!
Ahah - saw Juan this time! That was quite a substantial distance... much enjoyed sharing your trip - some super scenery. Nice meeting at Boonville. Seems maybe another Boonville video may be in the works after the August meet. I too am an ex pat Brit - been here 19 years now... wondering how long you have been in US :)
Your bird is the appitemy of simple and easy flying. My health isn't all that good but if it were, I would love to fly such a machine as yours. Just don't let the purists talk you in to an aircraft, that would not be nearly as enjoyable. You are a lucky man.
James....love following your video adventures. Starting the process of looking at Ercoupe's for purchase and curious about your thoughts on polishing and upkeep of bare metal versus paint. I hear so many opinions.....wanted to hear from someone that owns a bare metal polished plane. Thank you !
Hello Bradley. Well good luck in your Ercoupe adventure. Polished is not bad for me. I haven't polished mine in months, which you can get away with, IF you keep it in a nice dry hangar. I think it would be a LOT of work if you didn't have a hangar.
Hi James...this one made me miss my flights around Petaluma. You kind of changed up your look, shorter hair and new beard. Is your Dad a pilot ? Joe. Ercouper.
Tiger Moth!!! Wow.. ya know there was a Moth in the Santa Rosa area years ago...two older gents flew it around with white scarves. It was amazing. Then, there was a collision on the taxiway with a C150. At Petaluma as I recall. O69 is great, PLEASE do a fly in and have lunch at the 29er Diner ! Wonderful place and owners. I soloed there the day they opened.
@@JamesGood Painted wing basically where it looks like you mounted yours. Right wing and horizontal stab camera stayed, I looked out and the left wing camera was gone.
Excuse my ignorance but it seems that you were tense, ever monitoring every single detail of your flight. The scenery is beautiful but you never look and I realize the extreme need for safety in the air but it seems to me that you were so tense. Is that a common trait for all small aircraft pilots?
I reviewed this video again, I didn't think I was super tense! Don't forget it's heavily edited as well, which removes some context. I don't include most of the quiet 'nothing happening' parts. It's actually very relaxing for me to fly, most of the time. You certainly have to pay attention, there are things that will kill you, literally.
That was a nice flight I enjoyed almost as much as you!
I am a Viking pilot and appreciate different airplanes, specially old ones. Your video is very nice all over. Well inspired. Thank you.
Thanks for dropping the note, glad you enjoyed!

Great trip. Lovely old bird. Made me envious watching it. Precious times with your Dad.

I have a video coming up of another Ercoupe/Stearman joint flight, since you mention both of those!
Nice flight 😊

Enjoyed the flight.....beautiful country out there. Great--Father-Son together.
There is another great little airstrip called Little River further towards the coast.
So many memories in N94805 for myself with my father. Thanks for this great video. I know my dad is smiling down on you! Wonderful!
Reminiscing flying with my dad in N3134H, a white 1946 415-C, in 1969. The little Ercoupe is such a pretty plane in polished metal!
Another nice video James and was surprised to see Juan Brown in the lounge! To funny!
Cheers, thanks for the ride along!
Great flight, great fun, great airplane! Thanks for sharing! Congrats from Portugal 👍
Beautiful aircraft
Hey! That's Juan Browne (blancolirio )! Great video!!! One of those CAVU days where you wish you had infinite fuel...

This is an excellent video.
Thanx for posting it
James, it was a pleasure to meet you and your father Sunday. Boonville is one of my favorite spots to visit.
Hey Mike, likewise with you and Amber. Hopefully run into you and the Champ again soon.
Looking forward to it.

Yes, they do!
Hi James...this one made me miss my flights around Petaluma. You kind of changed up your look, shorter hair and new beard.

Yes, Dad is a pilot. He has 1000 hours in Tiger Moths! I need to get down to Petaluma some time....

As always great video, I wish I could keep my camera's... Bought the mounts you suggested and lost one if flight my second time up.
Oh no! What surface did you mount it to? Polished metal? Painted metal?
@@JamesGood Painted wing basically where it looks like you mounted yours. Right wing and horizontal stab camera stayed, I looked out and the left wing camera was gone.
What is the flight hours per gallon?
About 5 gallons per hour!
Brookville????
Hey Mark. No, Boonville in Mendocino county, California.
