HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Once again I've felt inspired by the spooky season to write a new EP. Masks - EP tackles a variety of horror and ghost stories but in this, the title track, the subject turns to a more realistic look at the nature of two-faced people and the struggles of coming to terms with one's true self instead of facing life with a well-tailored "mask."

Perhaps it's because sociology is one of my majors, but the first thing that popped into my head when listening to this song was Dramaturgy and impression management. Intentional or not, song lyrics has themes of Goffmanian dramaturgy, which makes me like it more if anything.

First of the chopping block,
“sociology”
Socio sounds like social, which if I understand correctly, means how humans interacts with other humans.
Ology is simply the study of the root word in front of it,
So sociology is the study of humans interacting with other humans.
And next is “dramaturgy”
Drama is like the performative arts, or it sounds like something else from context, maybe like a child being dramatic, so does drama refer to behavior? I think so.
Turgy is a suffix I only recognize due to SCP stuff, but from what I can tell from thaumuturgic I think it refers to an art form? I will immediately look up turgy’s meaning and edit this comment.
And I am back, and urgy means “to work with”
So dramaturgy means to work with drama, or from rewatching the vid and rereading the comment, trama, I hope that I am a help to those here

I think that a mask has the potential to become a truer face than one's own. That sometimes, your own face is a mask, and one you can't ever remove.
oh it gets scarier. In psychology there is a theory of "masks" you wear. One mask for meeting strangers, one for friend, one for family and one for those closest to you and only when you are truly alone you will be yourself. Each mask gets progessivly closer to your true self, something you might call "knowing each other", but as long as you are not alone you are only acting on societal norms.

We all love the music, and the potent lyrics for sure.. But I'd just like to take a moment to appreciate the art. As listening, I found myself looking, really LOOKING, and I just kept noticing all these wonderful little details, each one adding to whatever story is being told.. The split arm, the scattered masks... The way the strings hoisting the puppet mirror the puppets sprawling shadow.. And so many more tiny things that tell a story...

It really is nice, and one of the reasons I enjoy all their original works, as they still always feel like they carry at LEAST as much meaning and weight as their old fan works, and so much more than so many other songs that don't try to incorporate more complicated characters and stories.

@@archermon373 aren't there three dead puppets? There's one on the left slumped over, one on the right laying down, and a third in the hallway of which we can only see the mask and hand.
The artwork is hauntingly beautiful, and the font for the lyrics really sells it for me. The beat drags you in even before the words begin... Another masterpiece.

I remember when this song came out I was expecting some sort of uncanny horror song about some unseen horror shit. But then it just struck me as some sort of cynical dark-ass social commentary.
And to be honest that's even scarier...

Master Aviators - Lord of masterpieces. It reminds me some moments of my life, when I was twisted around by someone. Those feelings of resentment and anger at the offender. I like, that you create music based on your own life experience. Why did I decide so? This is noticeable in every song (almost). In particular, that song about your girlfriend (Where I belong), I hope, now wife. And I note that almost every one of your compositions contains theme of love, or its outline. This is wonderful ... When there can be so many intersections with your personality from just one song, that at some point you get lost and close in yourself, thinking that the Aviators is watching for you from far away. Thank you for all.

Something about the instrumentals feels delightfully jarring. The abrupt silence in the first verse was chilling! The wordless vocalizing is also more ghostly than in your other songs, I think.
With this song I imagine Avi performing in a black tailcoat tuxedo in an orchestra in front of a crowd wearing masks...
Then the maskless protagonist (us, as listeners) comes in...
Crowd looks at the curious figure at the entrance...
Then the spotlight shines on them maliciously as if popping a question, "where is your mask, young one?"

The King in Yellow. The book Lovecraft once read a long long time ago. It is a strange work of fiction. The writing varies between awkward to beautiful and haunting, when I first finished it I found it adequate and a bit of curious literary history. Then I began daydream about that city by the lake, lying silently in the mist under black stars. That book gnaws at you, like the best of cosmic horror. And yet, where lovecraft gives you nightmares for days, Chambers gives you a nostalgic longing for that alien city you never knew.
The writing is so subtle, so frustratingly sparse and yet what is there is enough to leave a lasting impression. It is well worth a read, this book over a century old and so unlike anything Chambers wrote before or after.

Excellent, love the depths it goes to philosophically while maintaining an awesome ambiance. Also I like the art you used.
My character that I play for the story me and some friends make on the spot has never been seen without their mask, and no one dares to even try. Despite the fact that there are times when my character is entirely idle, somewhat like being asleep. Someone could literally just walk up to them in that time and remove it, but they don’t. Because the players respect the fact that I couldn’t design a face for my character. But the other characters are just scared of what could happen if they remove it, mainly because my character has a good level of power.

These songs are so great for me. While loving how distinct they are, it reminds me how to define my emotions.
This texture is goes so well together along with the smooth melody. The tempo is a nice pace as well. Not to mention the deep lyrics. Honestly amazing work!

Indeed. Those who are most feared are those in plain sight, a normal face belying something not meant to be known, lest it kill them when they don't expect it. A normal mortal, human face can hide innerworkings most inhuman and unholy. The most terrifying monsters and demons of the world are the most vile and heartless of sentient life.

I've yet to not be impressed with anything you do; Original, inspired or otherwise. Starting with Apocalypse State of Mind, then creeping into Dark Souls (which I am ecstatic I have done, especially Let There Be Fire with Gavin) and slowly spreading across all your work. And your word and instrument choice has been phenomenal. I'm sad my music career ended so prematurely because I would love to parallel your style.

We all wear masks, terrified to show our true nature. We're so scared to be unique for fear of being shunned so we hide behind our silent identities, becoming just as empty as everyone around us. We fear mistakes because it would bring attention to us and would break how uniform we are. Our true selves are asleep while an individual that we don't even know goes about wearing our name. But this mask bring a burden and haunts us, remind us that if we don't stop living in fear, we'll never find out who we truly are. So shatter the mask and break free. Let you real nature shine and forget what the uniform monster tells you. You are your own person and that is all that should matter.
