I grew up in a musically inclined, extended family in a farming town. Members of the family were in an orchestra, an old-fashioned country band, a banjo band, and a Dixieland band. (Back then, the local park on Main Street still had a band stand. Now it is a farmer’s market.) In the early days of the VHS camera, my uncle invited fellow musicians to his farm on a Saturday to make music and enjoy food. A camera was set up and I was able to obtain a video copy of that afternoon. Those people are all gone now. That was the generation that probably bought the sheet music you are collecting. When I watch that video I get teared up as I am watching a generation that could get together and enjoy singing and making music together. Back then, people would buy sheet music and gather round a piano. Now, when I go to family gatherings, people gather round the TV and balance a plate on their knee. Ever feel like you belong to another time?
This is the best show yet! You've put more personality and talent into this one than any yet. Makes me even more excited for the next one. A friend posted your first podcast on Facebook and once I watched it, I was hooked. Just don't learn the calliope or I'm out of a job fast!
Domingo! Just fantastic! I really enjoyed this! I just played QRS roll 1095 "Hot Tamale Mollie", words by Louis Weslyn, music by Max Kortlander, copyright by Jerome H. Remick, 1920. A similar tune to what you played, but entirely different lyrics! Could it be an earlier version of the same song? I like your version better. On this QRS roll there is no mention of the fire department, burning celluloid collars, melting gold teeth or a torch on the porch! Your piano sounds fabulous-keep up the great work! Have watched all of these now but see they've stopped. Sad about that. Maybe you need a tip jar like Adam has. Always leave $10 when I come across these things.
Love this so much!!
You’re really good at podcasts! I know it’s been awhile, but I would enjoy seeing more occasionally.
Domingo, you're just TOO MARVELOUS!!!!....and beyond....
Thanks for making these great videos. They bring so much joy. All my very best, >
