These NFL QBs got "WALLY PIPPED"

- Some NFL Qbs suffer injury, and never get their jobs back. These next five were not bad qbs, but an injury changed their fate, and their backup's fates, forever.

Damn Drew Bledsoe got Wally Pipped twice. that def gets a Dam Son
I saw that hit. Drew Bledsoe was no Pipp-squeak: he was a big guy, 6'5", 245 lbs., one of the biggest QBs in the NFL at the time. The hit tore a blood vessel in his chest, and nearly killed him. When he went back to the huddle, he had forgotten what he was doing. A receiver warned Belichik, "Drew got his bell rung! We gotta get him out of here!"

Tyrod did it 3 times THREE
He'll always be loved in New England, though. He got us to two Super Bowls, and was a gentleman through and through.
Dam Son now has a Ph.D in theoretical physics (SERIOUSLY! IT'S THE SAME GUY! His face looks the same, just older). So he's Professor Dam Son.
Dam Son, you did good.
I'm surprised you left out Kurt Warner replacing Matt Leinart. Pulling off a double Pipping in your career is even more impressive.
Ohhh snap, you're right! Lefty Matt from USC.
Was Leinhart injured or just playing poorly?
@@walker1984 Weird sequence of events, actually. Leinart was drafted as the team’s QB of the future. Warner was essentially in a “vet QB playing out the string as a backup” phase of his career (think Hasselbeck in Indy) the previous year when he took the starting spot from an ineffective Josh McCown circa mid season. Cards got off to a slow start in ‘06, so Warner got benched. Leinart’s first pro start was the Monday night miracle game where the Bears came from 20 down to win late & Dennis Green had his now legendary post game presser. Leinart started the rest of ‘06, but appeared to be stuck in neutral the whole time. Still looked stuck in neutral during the early part of ‘07 when he got hurt. Warner was also hurt, but was a gamer and played through it (had a huge brace on his elbow that basically covered his whole left arm for pretty much the entire season). Warner still had the job in ‘08, but went back to looking like his pre-2002 self and Leinart didn’t start another game until Warner retired following the ‘09 season (by which time, his confidence was shot).
@@walker1984 Probably mostly just not playing good enough.
Alex smith getting pipped and Colin kaepernick went in and took them to a super bowl and then he got pipped again on the chiefs, and mahomes went in
Kinda got Pipped again in DC.
@@jimbo-fk4dq nah Haskins hasn't been playing good enough to keep the job when Alex gets healthy
Ghost Dream Alex Smith lost a part of his leg... the chances of him playing again let alone playing next season are slim to none
He didn’t really get pipped in KC though. We gave him one more year until we started Mahomes and he choked again in the WC game and so we shipped him off to Washington
@@ZedStone1 yeah, was actually so happy seeing him out there last night, incredible comeback from injury, was wincing every time he took a hit tho, hes scaring me too much lol
This could also be called “getting Bledsoed”
That's closer to the truth. Pipp wasn't injured, but merely had a headache. Bledsoe was badly injured, and nearly killed.
Or Tyrod Taylor
Chargers really had their franchise passing leader, the all time passing leader and the greatest CFL player ever on their roster at the same time
Some people might say Moon was best CFL player ever, but I get your point :p
@hangtime 7190 are you really the best if you never play in the NFL?
@hangtime 7190 except the other players were so good on the CFL that they moved on. If Calvillo was as good he would have gone to NFL in a heartbeat. He holds records because he was good for a long time, the others were so amazing the CFL couldn't keep them.
@Pennywise Wadford what does that even mean? The fact is that the NFL is the league 99.9% football players dream of playing in, it is the pinnacle of the sport. Nobody becomes a professional baseball player to play in AAA
@Pennywise Wadford except the vast majority of CFLers would give their left nut to play in the NFL lol. It doesnt have to be a farm system to be a feeder league. A lot of the best CFL players go on to play in NFL or would love to play in the NFL where minimum salary is higher than the max in CFL lol
Hurricanes goaltenders got Wally Pipped for one night and it made us all laugh at the Leafs again.
Phil Michaels you don’t get Wally pipped for a single night
The cover photo didn’t age well
The whole time this video was playing, I kept thinking “Drew Bledsoe has to be here, right?” He still got a ring in 2001 so he shouldn’t be too salty. And he even got some playoff action and outdueled, um, .......Kordell Stewart in the AFC championship.
Side note, how good does your defense have to be to drag Kordell Stewart to an AFC championship game? TWICE!!
Tyrod Taylor, I feel like I have heard his name in a previous video. Hmmm
@Jason Allen Oh yeah!
Man he was replaced 4 different times. But how many of those were due to injury (besides his current one lol)? And what's crazy now is his latest wally pipper plays a lot like a former wally pipper...Josh Allen.
@Jason Allen At least there is good money in playing a few games, before the high draft pick rookie QB takes over a few games into the season.
Clouds?
@@asolom39 Clouds?
honorable mention: Joe Montana to Steve Young (simply because Montana had won 4 Super Bowls before getting flattened by Leonard Marshall in the 1991 NFC Conference Game, and never got his starting QB back as Steve Young took the baton and led the 49ers to another championship)
Biggest case of the yipps in sports history- topic for a video. Love ur stuff my dude
It'd just be various Atlanta/Cleveland players...
That hit by Mo Lewis is one of the hardest hits I´ve ever seen in my life.
Bledsoe was no Pipp-squeak, either. He was a pretty big guy.
"We've gone from 0 to Sports" is my new favorite quote
Obvious fact number 1, if bledsoe never gets injured tom brady doesnt become a legend, doesnt marry gisele bunchden and ends up working at a groccery store like kurt warner did.
The real irony is that when Bledsoe was hurt and couldn't play for weeks, he was actually excited for Tom. He (and everyone else on the team) could see that Brady was an unusual talent, and he thought that this would give Brady a chance to show his talent, and some other team that was unhappy with their quarterback would ask for a trade, and Brady would become a franchise quarterback. Somewhere else. With another team. It never dawned on him, until the doctors cleared him and Belichick made it clear that Brady had won the starting job, that he had been replaced.
what’s crazy about this is that there’s probably tons of potential hall of famers that never got their chance because the starter never got hurt
Ahhh the life of a backup QB. They go a majority of their careers hoping that one of their teammates gets injured. Probably going to bed at night praying for them to get injured.
We know him as the failed coach of the Cowboys but Jason Garrett was a pretty good Ivy league QB who spent his entire career holding the clipboard for Troy Aikman.
@@workingclassrunner Garrett played well in the few starts he got when Aikman was hurt. But Garrett probably wouldn't have succeeded in the long haul of a season.
Wally pip got dak now 😂😂
As a Pats fan I'll always have a soft spot for Bledsoe. He was great in his prime and revived the Pats after several years of the team being mega-trash. His high scoring duels with Marino were epic. You can argue his benching was unfair but he took it like a professional, and when he was called on to save us in the AFC Championship he was phenomenal.
He may have been Pipped but he won a ring and he (and we) can feel good knowing he earned it.
He had been their starter for a little while, to his credit. And I think his shoulder injury required a couple months off. With Brady in a groove by then it would have been hard to argue for putting him back in and pretending Brady wasn't the best guy.
Who is here after Dak got hurt
#pray4Dak
Yeah except no one replacing him
He’s better but needs to win

Oh, Thats why Cam Newton didnt jump on that ball in the Super Bowl
The lack of Alex Smith on this list is ridiculous
Tyrod Taylor has been Wally Pipped 3 times in his career. Josh Allen in BUF, Baker Mayfield in CLE, and Justin Herbert in LAC
I'd make an argument that only happened to him twice because Nathan Peterman came in to replace him while he was in Buffalo and that went poorly. Tyrod was already with the Browns roster before they drafted Allen.
Alex Smith got Pipped by Colin Kaepernick on a dirty hit in 2012. I know, I was at that game. Smith was statistically the best QB in the league at that time. They went to the SB that season. Smith got traded the next offseason.
Alex Smith did not get Wally Pipped by Patrick Mahomes though.
Donnie, please....
pretzelhunt he’s not wrong lmao
@@cathalevans6754 I know; just, someone's already mentioned it more succinctly.. even if it was after DRP3
He kind of go pipped in DC, though it's just nice Alex can still walk.
jimbo 2346 how can u get pipped in DC when you haven’t been able to walk until now, yet alone play?
When you explained what being "Wally Pipped" was all I could think was "I thought that was called being Drew Bledsoed"
You jinxed dak by putting him on the cover
People most likely don’t keep up with Mississippi State football, but K.J Costello got Wally Pipped. Suffered a head injury and now the true Freshman Will Rogers is starting.
If I'm ever an nfl GM my first move is going to be to make Drew Bledsoe enough of an offer to unretire (even if he's 80 years old) just so I can have some random middle-to-late round draft pick Wally Pipp him for a third time and make my team great.
The fact that the chargers had drew brees, phillip rivers and eli manning as your first second and third string qb's, had one of the most prolific offenses in history in 2007 and let go marty f'n schottenheimer and ended up with zero rings shows the utter incompentence of the spanos family fu spanos
Eli never played for the chargers he was drafted by them and then traded to the giants for Phillip rivers
This video was so perfect and entertaining that I subscribed! Great video 👍
Tony Romo fractured his vertebra not his shoulder 👍🏾
What’s good yo I appreciate the work you put in your videos
Thanks brother
Warner Rams where insanely good.
I don't think people understand the pain they go through. It's torture
Well this is just popped up in my recommendations
Damn, Prescott on the thumbnail was a bad omen.
That's awesome, i was hopping you'd say the Bledsoe/Romo pipp. I always say you're lucky if you're Drew's back up because you end up having a really good or GOAT career after replacing him.
Thanks for making great content
The Dam Son always gets me in these vids. Truly a classic meme
It wasn't the NFL and they weren't quarterbacks but I'll always remember how on the University of Miami's defensive line Warren Sapp wound up Wally Pipping _Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson_ of all goddamned people
Getting "Wally Pipped" in the NFL should be called getting "Drew Bledsoed" now. He got Pipped twice, and the first was by the QB selected 199 overall in 2000 who became the GOAT and the second was by an undrafted free agent QB from Eastern Illinois who now calls games for CBS. Bledsoe was a heck of a QB and will always be loved in NE.
I thought the thumbnail said You just got piped... I'm disappointed that I still clicked on it..
Tyrod Taylor got wally pipped twice! Got his lung punctured and now herberts starting😂
Uh oh... DAK is gonna get pip slapped.
This video didn't age well for Dak....
Lets be fair, Tony Romo was always one hit away from being Wally Pipped
Not necessarily because it takes a good enough replacement to pull it off. Were all of his backups as good as or better than Dak?
Terrod 😂😂 you saw them making fun of the pronunciation in the comments on the last video
Idea for a video , “what where they thinking 1st round bad picks “
Shoulder Injury? Hawks broke that man's Back.
Damn you got me with the “Dam Som” pic!!!!! Hilariously played son!!!!! Subbed!!!!!😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Chris chandler was once a decent qb in Atlanta, making 2 pro bowls and taking the falcons to Super Bowl 33. In 2001, during a game in Miami, chandler got hurt and was replaced by micheal vick. He never played for Atlanta again and would be out of the league by 2005
After getting an MRI done my surgeon told me my shoulder injury was similar to that of Drew Brees. He plays football, I tried to push on something and it got the best of me.
Every time this shows up on my suggested i think it says “piped” and i see tony romo laying ass up on the turf and I giggle a little
Hey FivePoints, what do you think of this for a team name..... The Washington DCers!
Nahhh, I like the Washington Super Spreaders or Washington Rose Garden Massacres.
i think Romo and Brady owe Drew some cash for the chances he gave them to become franchise QBS.
@Sandman Huffmaster doesn't matter
Trent Green better be on this list
Romo deserved a superbowl
How about Joe Montana? Won 4 Super Bowls, led the 49ers to the NFC's best record in 1990, was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year. Only to be crushed by Leonard Marshall, which forced him to miss most of 2 seasons, while Steve Young became the league's best QB.
Tony Romo,Alex Smith, drew Bledsoe,Trent Green are names that come to mine
You know what's ironic? The fact that Dak got pipped a couple of days ago after he pipped romo XD
Nah he'll be back in little while
Don Majikowski??? There’s a name out of the past. Didn’t know he was still playing when B. Favre came along.
Poor Trent Green you back up comes out a plays like Joe Montana!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣 They are sure to make a movie about his life.
Kurt Warner started against the Ravens in week one. His excellent game against Cincinnati was in week four, which marked his third start of the season.
Steve Young taking over for Joe Montana should have made the list.
When you realize that even Joe Montana got Wally Pipped!
Yeah but Steve Young was also a hall of famer and cost less.
@@piccilo72farts to the max

So June 2nd is the day of Wally Pipp?
That’s my birthday!
No, June 2 (1925) was the day Lou Gehrig started his streak...and the day he died (1941).
I also believe Bledsoe would have won the game that his team filmed the game plan of the other team. Not to mention the fact that they held the rams receivers all the way down the field on every single play
Tom Brady replacing Drew Bledsoe is the biggest example of "Wally Pipped" ever
“The Pippi’d came out on top” that’s what she said when she came.
Bro! The "my neck and my back" bro I love that movie
I died laughing when i heard the Friday line 😂😂😂
Was just watching ur vid
Treat Green, Tony Romo, Trent Green, Tyrod Taylor, Drew Bledsoe, Drew Brees, I got to see all of them lose their job
Didn't Michael Vick lose his job to Nick Foles?
He did lol, I remember having Vick in fantasy that yr
Tyrods whole career could be in this video, he lost that starter position to Justin Herbert too, team doctor punctured his lung giving him an injection and about 15 minutes before the game started Herbert was told he was on, and it’s been history ever since
As a pats fan all I can say is thank you Moe Lewis .
Crazy how Romo gets paid as much as he does or more to basically watch football as he did to play it.
Funny...when he was in Baltimore, is favored pronunciation was TIE-ROD. Just like it was pronounced Joe THEES-MAN before he won the Heisman. After that it was THIGHS-Man
You could also do players that got replaced - and ended up best friends with their replacement!
Bledsoe got pipped by Brady, then went to Dallas and got pipped again by Romo lmfaoooo
Also joe flacco, yeah lamar was a 1st round pick most ppl didnt think he was drafted to play but to put pressure on joe
I think of this situation everytime a starter gets hurt and a backup needs to be brought in
Pretty sure Alex Smith got Peppers three times.
Got hurt in SF, Kaep replaced him
Got hurt in KC, Mahomes replaced him
Got hurt in Washington and Haskins replaced him
That man can't catch a break
Pfffttt. Everyone knows Romo didn't get Wally Pipped - he just had to go back to being Paul Rudd.
If #1 never happened, history would be much different now, hopefully some day, someone can dive deep into NFL around that time, and show what could've been.
Bledsoe was my guy back then, but Brady just had the clutch genes drew didn't have. By the time they were in Pittsburgh playing for the afc title, you could just tell there was something different about Brady.
Gehrig’s streak started the day before when he was brought in to pinch hit.
Romo didnt have a shoulder injury that gave Dak the starting job he had broken disks in his back when he got sacked in preseason by seattle.
Random fun fact about Dak, he's the ONLY QB from that draft class still with the team that drafted him.
Actually, there is a case to be made that Bledsoe was not really 'pipped.' When the legendary hit happened, the Patriots already wanted to move on from him. He was not the right QB for an emerging team. The management made a huge mistake giving him a massive contract (by contemporary standards) in 2000 for ten years. The injury and Brady's rise bailed the team out of that contract. They could get rid of Bledsoe when he still had some trade value. Deeper analysis shows that Bledsoe was not the same quality player after his 1998 injury. It is on record that, in the 2001 preseason, the Patriots coaching team was already worried about the QB position. And then Bledsoe had a disheartening start to the 2001 season. He could not move the offence. The hit actually came on a desperate attempt to scramble from a player not built for that kind of play. When Brady came on, there was immediately more life in the offence. It was not difficult to choose him over a declining Bledsoe.
Does that mean we should call Steve DeBerg, Mr. Inevitable?
I think there's a clip of bill belichick telling the Wally pip story you should added in
Magic man
I think Trent Green's fate might be the saddest, because he WAS a good player, but what's his #1 career highlight that keeps being shown time after time on NFL Network?
Getting his legs blasted in the preseason by Rodney Harrison.
It's almost like history sees him as an obstacle rather than an asset.
PipSlap is the new Pimp Slap
The wally pipp situation is kinda different though, I'm sure Bledsoe is more jealous of Brady than Pipp was of Gehrig given the excruciating disease he suffered later in life.
Romo in the beginning🤣🤣
In the NFL it is called Getting Bledsoe'd.
those edits are hilarious
