  • DUNE FIGHTING STYLE Explained
Timothée Chalamet's Fighting Style in Dune Is Inspired by Balintawak Eskrima, a FIlipino Martial Art.
DUNE's Director Denis Villeneueve revealed that the sword-fighting scenes were designed by fight choreographer Roger Yuan who took inspiration from the Filipino fighting style.
Developed in the 1950s and widely attributed to the martial artist Vernancio "Aciong" Bacon, balintawak eskrima is a variant of the Filipino weapon-based fighting style eskrima, also known as arnis.

Escrima in general is a hell of a lot older than the 1950s. It goes back centuries to the pre-Spanish era, 500+ years ago, although it is influenced by Spanish swordsmanship.
Magellan got himself killed because he was arrogant enough to think that his men with their armour and swords would intimidate the locals. Instead they attacked ferociously with spears and swords and killed him on the beach. Spanish colonization was delayed by 40 years because of that.

Venancio Bacon is the inventor of balintawak arnis style , which he learned from doce pares, he was jailed for homicide because he was ambushed by rival arnisador and he successfully killed the perpetrator, he has failed to defend himself to court because knives are illegal to carry

Balintawak and Doce Pares both come from San Miguel Eskrima

He was attacked by someone who tried to kill him, he defended himself, and HE got imprisoned for murder? So what if knives are illegal in the Philippines, if he hadn't had one, the other guy would have killed him! I guess he had a bad lawyer.

Balintawak evolved from the teaching of the Saavedras under the Labangon Fencing Club. This was before the Doce Pares Group which GM Anciong was a part of. The San Miguel Style of Filemon Canete is not the progenitor of Balintawak

saying Escrima is like saying Kung Fu; there are THOUSANDS of schools of Escrima. and he didn't just "base" the Arteries style on Balintawack. Here at 1:30 Roger Yuan states that the training sequence is literally the 12 blocks and strikes of Balintawack.
    here's the video

I say this as point of research, not to upset anyone
